HOW-TO: Image Preparation

Ok, so I'm working on a store for a friend and it is currently not live (so I'll be doing the space thingy in the url), but I'm trying to resize the javascript window that the "larger image" loads in. I followed the instructions in this thread and the main support site--the dimensions I want (and what I set them to in the jscript_main file) are W375 H563, and the image is showing up in those dimensions as it is the size of the file, but the box itself is popping up at W463 H700. Isn't the javascript file supposed to set the popup window itself?

Test item is here:
http:// g e n r e c a m p .com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=19_20_24&products_id=4

Sorry to bump an old thread, but there are already so many threads with "larger image" in the title, I didn't want to add to the clutter...

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

I'm trying this additional images option, but it's not having it.

I have read the following...

https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=58

"UFO" being the base image name I have tried the following combinations, but still it will not list multiple images.

images/UFO.jpg
images/UFO_01.jpg

I have also tried a sub folder...

images/ufo/UFO.jpg
images/ufo/UFO_01.jpg

My site is https://www.area3d.co.uk

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

I'm using v1.3.9 Can anybody tell me how to make the additonal image larger? I know this is controlled by the admin>configure>images>small image setting but when I make it larger it makes my thumbnails in my new items side box larger and throws off the whole layout. Here's a link to the page I'm playing with,

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

I need help...I've asked this question in IH2 as well, I'm sorry for the double posting...seems there's a gray line as to where my question actually belongs. So I hope I can get help from one of these posts.

I've been using IH2 to upload my product images. I was looking to be able to do this using FTP instead but I wanted to keep with the IH2 resizing feature.

I've done some reading, looks like if I upload images via FTP they will need to have the MED & LRG verbage built into the image file name so that IH2 will recognize the image. Am I understanding this correctly? However, saving them to reflect MED & LRG to have your site running your images optimally it's suggested to resize each of these MED & LRG files accordingly?

:frusty:I want to have IH2 resize my pictures but I need a faster method of upload that the method provided in admin. Preferbly via FTP. I'm just confused...going in circles over this and it really is my final piece to the puzzle so I can wrap up this site.

Your help is appreciated!

Posting my answer from IH2 here as well..

IH2 creates the medium and small images for you.. You do not need to create medium or large images. IH2 creates the medium and small images based on image settings in the admin (covered in the IH2 readme). So for IH2 to work you only have to upload the largest image when you upload your product images and IH2 will do the rest (create the small and medium images).

Not that I mind helping, but the readme file for IH2 REALLY does cover this in excruciating detail.. if the readme isn't covering this well then let me know and I'll address it..

(again this part is NOT related to IH2 but is a function of how Zen Cart works)
Again.. Yes you can FTP images and IH2 will recognize them.. Upload the largest product images and IH2 will create the small and medium images for you...

However that said IH2 or no IH2, you cannot FTP your main product images and expect that Zen Cart will magically KNOW which product they go with.

You still have to TELL Zen Cart where to locate the image associated with a specific product. Do you have to upload the image when you create the product NO.. Zen Cart has features which allow you to link your product to an image already on the server..

So yes you can FTP your images, but you will at some point have to at least link the MAIN product image to the product.

Hope this all is clearer now..

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

Oh my goodness... I have read this forum topic on images - all 27 pages- probably ten times.. I have followed directions on prepping images - and have created 3 different size images for the images folder- the images/medium folder and the images/large folder..

Everything is uploaded.

I have two problems...

First... I have set up categories- and sub categories.. I "thought" on the sub category pages- that my product(s) would come up as thumbnails- and people could click on them for more information.

So far- not true.. What I get- is if you click on the subcategory- a mid sized image pops up with full description and add to cart...

Second problem: I really don't know what settings are wrong- but the same small image I uploaded when creating my product- is used throughout the whole process!!

Here is url of my site- ( using zencart 1.3.9 ) and I'd LOVE if someone can help me.. It has to be something simple... Just has to be!!

http://www.justforkeeps.net/index.php

Now- I have only added one product so far- just to make sure things are working right.. So- if you could click on the category to the left- Folk Art/ Primitives- then you'll see it adds my sub categories... Please click on spring/summer- to see where I am talking about...

( p.s.. I wish that I could also change that message- new products for november- as I don't like it- and on the product listing- it adds the time and date product was listed- and I don't like that either )

Okay- guess this is more than one issue- and after really searching and searching and searching- I just have to come in and ask for help!!!!

Thanks ever so much to you all that have been here before!!

Niki

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

ok im really killing myself on this

ive started work on preparing images. so im testing out on one brand

for this product ive created the images in the following order

images/bsn/truemass.jpg
images/medium/bsn/truemass_MED.jpg
imades/large/bsn/truemass_LRG.jpg

at the respective sizes
125 X 125
250 X 250
500 X 500

the problem im is that only my small image is showing up. the medium and large images arent showing

here you can see the image come up under the brand
http://www.qssupplements.com.au/zencart2/index.php?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=2

here you can see the product info with no images
http://www.qssupplements.com.au/zencart2/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=11

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

I have the thumbnail images in the thumbnails folder. However, The site is not using the real images instead of using the large image to scale to the small size. I don't know how it can be turn the auto scale and use the real image.

Your help is appreciated.

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

Thanks for this tutorial.
I have Zen Cart 1.3.9h.
I have set up** images/rings **and images/large/rings. No MED as the lage photos are only 200 x 200
I have images/rings 95017016.jpg and images/large/rings/95017016_LRG.jpg
The pop up shows only the small image 95017016.jpg
I moved the 95017016.jpg to images/95017016.jpg _LRG to images/large/95017016_LRG.jpg
Same problem
I also tried images/rings 95017016.jpg and images/rings/large/95017016_LRG.jpg. No joy, still only the small image.
From what I can see **images/rings 95017016.jpg and images/large/rings/95017016_LRG.jpg **should be the one that works.
https://www.shop.s+c+h+m+u+c+kzeit.de
This is driving me crazy as everybody else sems to have no problem.
Thanks
Dave
Take out the + for the domain url. I can not post the name it turns to ###, the first word is german for jewelry (##############).

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

I am one step further.
I changed the image called 95017016_LRG.jpg so I could see if the correct image was loading. The correct image loads (95017016_LRG.jpg ), but at a smaller size than 95017016.jpg so my problem must be in jscript_main.php.
I have :
?>

<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"><!-- function popupWindow(url) { window.open(url,'popupWindow','toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,copyhistory=no,width=200,height=200,screenX=250,screenY=250,top=250,left=250') } function popupWindowPrice(url) { window.open(url,'popupWindow','toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,copyhistory=no,width=600,height=400,screenX=250,screenY=250,top=250,left=250') } //--></script>

This is saved under modules/mytemplate name/pages/product_info/jscript_main.php
I also tried:
Change original file name to jscript_main_org.php and then save the new /jscript_main.php
in place of the original.
This all has no effect??

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

I have a tip for improving the image quality of th smaller images.

The method to start with the large images and reduce down to medium and to standard is indeed the right one. BUT it leaves you with rather motty thumb nails.

You can enhance that by letting your image processing software brighten the image a little and then do a mild unsharp masking on the thumbnails. You will notice that the image is a lot brighter after that. Unsharp masking brightens the highlights and makes the edges more clear.

The size of the file is important too. When you use unsharp masking, you can put the quality slide of the JPG export higher - more compression, faster processing.

I'm not familiar with Photoshop, only with Corel Photopaint. Photopaint allows to record a sequence of steps and then save that to a file. That file can then be re-used on a batch.

Step 1:

  • |image|resample (use percentage) to 33%
  • |adjust|brightness-contrast - intensity: 0-7-5 (just a little, you can experiment with this to set it to your liking
  • |effects|sharpen|unsharp masking - 120 -1 (or 2) - 1

Save the recording. (.csc file)

Start batch processing, load the files you want to do, select the just saved csc-file, select what to do with the processed image, press start en lean back...

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

Another tip. For renaming ALL your files in a specific folder all at once.

Open the windows Command prompt.
select the disk where the images are located.
In my case its the D: drive, so at the prompt I type: D:\ [enter]
then I go to the disk where the images are:
cd \images[enter]
cd \medium[enter]

here is where my medium sized images are located.
then comes the magic:

type at the prompt:
rename *.jpg *_MED.jpg[enter]
Don't get nervous.... it takes a while before the prompt returns, but it works well.

To go to the large images file you can then type:
cd ..\large

or

cd..
cd \large

and then repeat the whole magic

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

Hi i have read through your great image preparation post. thankyou for that but i cannot find how to fix one problem that i am having.
All my pictures display correctly except for the manufacturer images on the product page they are displayed very large and go off the screen in some cases.
Is there anyway how to get them to adjust to the same size to fit in the sidebox?

a link to one of the products is http://www.acecomputers.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_11&products_id=16

any help would be really appreciated as i dont have any coding knowledge.

thanks

Quick answer - you don't (not without a lot of work). ZC is not geared up to use product pictures from an external source - and you'll be really crippling yourself with regard to SEO with all the external links and the page load speed penalties.

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

We have our images in images/product_images. How do I handle additional images and _LRG and _MED. I tried images/product_images/large and images/product_images/medium but the system does not find the other sizes and always defaults to the small image.

Thank you
