HOW-TO: Image Preparation

I'm having a problem with unwanted images on my product pages, I think the problem stems from the fact that all my products are based on just 3 main components see below

40 watt solar panel
40 watt solar panel and controller
40 watt solar panel and dual controller

40 watt free standing solar panel
40 watt free standing solar panel and controller
40 watt free standing solar panel and dual controller

and so on duplicated for the different size of panel so the next sizes would be 60 watt then 80 watt. Would I be better of using the product numbers as the file names rather that the product description or would I still get duplicate images.

zen lightbox installed.
by the way I've remove all the images for now as it was driving me nuts trying to solve it as I was getting all images that started with 40watt for instance on every product in the 40 watt range

thanks think I've sorted it I've just left the file names my camera created ie 100_1034.jpg, yes there are no descriptions in those names but it's not really a problem for me as my inventory is based on just 3 base products. and I can find any image I need with the thumbnails in file manager during upload.

A better solution which I think is widely adobpted is simply using your product model numbers or SKUs + an abreviated description. I'd also suggest not straying from 8.3 filenames.

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

Hello, I'm using Zen v.1.5.0

Having problems with pop-up. Here's the changes settings I've made in my file:

<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"><!--
function popupWindow(url) {
  window.open(url,'popupWindow','toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,copyhistory=no,width=600,height=2000,screenX=250,screenY=250,top=250,left=250')
}
function popupWindowPrice(url) {
  window.open(url,'popupWindow','toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,copyhistory=no,width=600,height=400,screenX=150,screenY=150,top=150,left=150')
}
//--></script>

Here's my website: http://shopforhealthandbeauty.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=2

If you click on the image, it does display the _LRG image correctly, but the pop-up window looks weird. Whats up with the margin on top and left? And I still have to drag the window to see the full image. What am I doing wrong? :dontgetit

Your question is off topic for this thread.. Your question is regarding issues with the pop-up window, and this thread is regarding image preparation/optimization. (See page 1 of this thread: <http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=52570&postcount=1>)

I took all the info regarding the pop-up from this thread. This is the quote from the first post:

As mentioned earlier, you can’t set the dimensions of the large image in ZC – not in 1.2.1d anyway – but it will display at the dimensions you upload it, although you may have to tweak the javascript file for the pop-up window to open at the size you want. The file you need to edit is /includes/modules/pages/product_info/jscript_main.php. In the function popupWindow(url) change width= and height= to your sizes. (You can also decide whether or not you want scrollbars by setting scrollbars=no or scrollbars=yes.) Then save the file to includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/pages/product_info/

If you read ALL the posts in this thread, like I did all morning today, you'd see a lot of people discussing large image pop-up. It has been discussed here extensively. So, on the subject - anyone?

The fact that other people conducted a similar off topic discussion on this thread doesn't make your post any more ON TOPIC..
But you carry on.

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

Hi all, I just have to say that it is amazing how this Zen Cart community is so helpful, I really appreciate it.

My issue is in regards to the Product imagLayout. ( I hope I'm in the right forum)

Here is a link to my issue. I'm using version 1.5.

http://babiesbigandtall.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=48_50&products_id=9

My problem is 2-fold: Firstly I would really like to have my add to cart (and applicable discounts) to be just to the right and in line with the attributes. The idea is that everything is compact with the least amount of scrolling. Also a customer must choose from the attributes in order to have an accurate price for their product.

And secondly, I would love if the image with the weight/height scale ( please ignore the quality, it's a test) could squeeze between the product image and additional images. I don't really want it to be a part of the product image itself.

Thanks so much for any one who can help this new zenner. :no:

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

Love the idea of clothes for larger babies... Great!

However... I think you are missing a trick here.

IMAGES are the single most important aspect of product descriptions and they should be nice and BIG so all the detail can be seen - or at least use a good HOVER feature to magnify the thumbnail.

Kill your right column on the product_info page. It's not necessary, and just adds to the clutter. (SEE: tpl_main_page.php for right-column disable on specific pages).

When you have gotten rid of the rt column, and made your images BIG so they can be seen, then re-visit other layout options.

I always plan my layouts around IMAGES FIRST...

See an example

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

Hi Icecube
Another example here for you, all in css styling and rerouting the tpl_product_info_display.php layout

If you wait to do everything until you're sure it's right, you'll probably never do much of anything !!!

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

Thank you both very much. I managed to work out the add to cart with your advice.

The only thing left that I can't figure out is how to sharpen my weight/height scale image without having it stretch all the way across the screen and overextend past the right border. When I enlarge it in illustrator I get the correct sharpneess, but that's what it does. Is there a way to constrain the size of the image despite its size in illustrator?

http://babiesbigandtall.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=48_50&products_id=9

Here is a page where the images are sharp but constrained (what I want to do)
http://babiesbigandtall.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=48

Thank again

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

I did not see my problem, I need to update my image in my storefront, when I go to my admin and edit a category then go to image upload jpeg the preview nothing happens. I have uploaded many images successfully before, why is this happening.

Probably because the real purpose of this post is to discuss image preparation and Zen Cart.. It's a lot less about the image functionality and a lot more about how to prep your images before uploading..

That all said, I would suggest starting a new thread for this post as it's not likely to be seen here..

Re: HOW-TO: Image Preparation

Hello,

I need help with additional images I have added for a product. When I click on larger image for any additional image, it is opening the main image in the pop-up. Where should I make the change so that pop-up will open the additional image and not the main image.

Please have a look on the following page -

http://www.krutikraft.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_4_9&products_id=30
