Image on Featured Products Sidebox Head

Hi,

I'm trying to put an image in the featured products sidebox head and it isn't working. I've followed the same instructions that I changed my other boxes, but for some reason, it isn't working on the featured products one.

The site is at https://www.onlinebook-store.com

What I've done so far...

  1. created a new image for the box head and titled it box_head_featured_products.gif and uploaded it to catalog>included>templates>custom>images

  2. Changed line in includes>languages>custom>english.php from

define('BOX_HEADING_FEATURED_PRODUCTS', 'Featured');

to

define('BOX_HEADING_FEATURED_PRODUCTS', 'box_head_featured_products.gif');

  1. Changed line in includes>modules>sideboxes>custom>featured.php from

$title = BOX_HEADING_FEATURED_PRODUCTS;

to

$title = zen_image($template->get_template_dir(BOX_HEADING_FEATURED_PRODUCTS, DIR_WS_TEMPLATE, $current_page_base,'images'). '/' . BOX_HEADING_FEATURED_PRODUCTS, HEADER_ALT_TEXT);

This has worked on the other boxes I've changed so far, but isn't working on this one. Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: Image on Featured Products Sidebox Head

Why are you changing the code when you can simply change the language define to:

define('BOX_HEADING_FEATURED_PRODUCTS', '<img src="includes/templates/MY_TEMPLATE/images/box_head_featured_products.gif" alt="My Featured Products Alt Tag" />');

Re: Image on Featured Products Sidebox Head

Billie -

I am so sorry you have had to do a whole bunch of work that wasn't needed. We have several folks that work on the FAQs and tutorials. Unfortunately we missed that one in screening.

While the steps in the tutorial will work fine, there are unneeded file changes and it is not the recommended way to change the sidebox headers.

Re: Image on Featured Products Sidebox Head

No worries. However, the fix you gave me didn't work either....unless I put it in the wrong file. I put it in the english.php. Was it supposed to go somewhere else?

Re: Image on Featured Products Sidebox Head

You could install the Image Titles mod, and load your image as boxhead-featured.gif - no other coding or editing required for any and all sidebox headings.

Re: Image on Featured Products Sidebox Head

Kim, I tried your way with the new sidebox I created and it worked fine. However, it doesn't work with the featured one for some reason and my guess is that it won't work with the best sellers either. Could this be because some places it's called "featured" and some places it's called "featured_products"?

Re: Image on Featured Products Sidebox Head

ok...worked on best sellers, but still no featured products.

Here's what I have in my english.php:

define('BOX_HEADING_FEATURED_PRODUCTS', '<img src="includes/templates/custom/images/box_head_featured_products.gif" alt="My Featured Products Alt Tag" />');

Re: Image on Featured Products Sidebox Head

Is BOX_HEADING_FEATURED_PRODUCTS meant for the sidebox or the centerbox?

P.S. - You probably would have to undo the edits you have already made to use Image Titles, so what you have is fine as long as the define edits work.

Re: Image on Featured Products Sidebox Head

What I mean :) is, does that constant control the sidebox heading or the centerbox heading?

OK, I looked in english.php and it does appear to be for the sidebox even though not identified with a comment like the others.

The centerbox uses this:
define('TABLE_HEADING_FEATURED_PRODUCTS','Featured Products');

Re: Image on Featured Products Sidebox Head

As of now, you don't have a featured sidebox active.
Your new products sidebox is not displaying an image, but it has the heading text in white on white (yellow when hovered). Have you tried to do that one yet?

I notice that your specials box heading image is working, but it is also showing the "[more]" below it. You can change the definition of that constant to be blank, which will probably get rid of it. (Look up [more] in the Developers Toolkit in Tools to find the file to edit, if necessary.)
<whisper>image titles takes care of that, and does centerbox headings too... and it won't care if you have edited the defines, it will just replace them with any of its images if you load them</whisper>
