How do I set Free shipping for orders over X$ in the lower 48 only?
Oba-san
Do you want the other shipping module(s) to still show when you have the Free Shipping showing?
If so, you can make a Zone for the lower 48 states and use it with Free Shipping Options freeoptions and set the Total to >= XX.XX
Now you will get the Free Shipping Option for the lower 48 but they can choose to expedite the order and pick a different shipping method ...

How or where do I make a zone for the lower 48?
Oba-san
Under the Locations/Taxes ... Zone Definitions ...
You can build one for the 48 Lower and DC ...

I'd like to do the same as maxilious.
I've looked at Zones and Zone Definitions. Do I setup a definition and somehow attach it to a zone or vice versa? Under Zones, the states are all listed separately.
Under Zone Definitions, it doesn't seem to offer a way to select the contiguous 48 states.
Zen Follower
Well, it looks like you have to insert each state (zone) into a new zone definition. That right? No shortcuts?

Merlinpa1969 posted awhile back a nice build for the 48 states plus DC ...
Now where did that nice thread go ...

Gulp! I've never done this before. Do I just copy the code you provided and paste it into the "Insert SQL query here" area of the Admin>Tools>Insert SQL Patch?
The SQL Executor instructions seem to say that is correct.
I have backed up my db. But, I had already begun one-by-one building manually a 48-state zone definition. I have about 23 more to go. Will your script overwrite/replace what's there already or do I need to do something else first?

Thank you Ajeh.

Using the example above, I was able to block shipping to two US states I wanted to block, but there is one more state that was inserted into the table that is still blocked.
The state is Alabama ('zone_id' = 1 according to 'zen_zones' table). In my 'zen_zones_to_geo_zones' table it shows an entry (223, 1, 21) for Alabama. However, every time I run a test order using my Alabama address, the cart says it cannot ship to this region.
Any thoughts?

I tested another order using NC, and it was blocked also; even though it is in the table. For now I removed the 48 states zone definition so that all states can order until I can figure this out.

After deleting the "48 States" Zone Definition and associated Tax Rate definition, I went into Free Shipping Options (the only shipping option enabled in my store) and set Shipping Zone to None. I logged into the store with the Alabama address and it still says Not Shipping to this Region at this Time. So, I tried the NC address that was previously blocked and it was okay with that one. Why is Alabama still being blocked?? :shocking:
I checked the Payment modules and all zones there are set to None as well.
Edit: I went in and turned off Free Shipping Options adn installed Free Shipping! module. Alabama is no longer blocked. This noob is so confused.

Looks good in there, but my status beside the All 48 is yellow. How do I get this to work? I am putting the zone "All 48" on my free shipping and no zone on some other shipping.
If I did not make this plain, please see my screen shot.

The yellow indicates that there are zones set on that Zone Definitions, but that there are not Tax Rates set ...
Not all Zone Definitions need tax rates, such as making a Zone Definition for Shipping purposes you do not need the Tax Rate ... so you will see the Yellow icon, even though you have set the Zone Definition up correctly ...

I've got this scenario. I've added the lower 48 to add to my table shipping rate. I'd like to configure separate shipping rates (based on price) for the lower 48 vs AK+HI.
Oba-san
You might search the Free Add Ons for:
Zone Table
and you can build seperate Zones for each Zone Definition ...
NOTE: Having a Zone Definition set on Table Rate table will show the yellow icon ... as a "filter" has been set on the shipping module ...

Well things have changed since I last visited. Previously I did not want to ship to three of the US states. Now I would I want to ship to those states, but due to all of the extra expense it takes to handle those orders, I would like to add a handling fee to those orders based on the number of items in the cart. Right now everything is set to Free Shipping using the freeshipper module. Can I use a form of this lower 48 state thing to implement this?
Oba-san
So what you would want to do is offer the Free Shipping but for the 3 states add on a handling fee per item quantity, correct?
What are the 3 states that you want to add the handling charge per item and how much is it per item?
