This is the other one home/accountname/public_html/store/includes/configure.php file

I have already moved my downloads folder to just above the public_html folder. Just not sure wht to put in the spaces because nothing I try works!

... but I have NOT been able to change the configure.php file located in (/public_html/store/includes/). I have changed the permissions to be writable, then made my changes and uploaded, but still no permanent changes.
That's something you'll have to take up with your hosting company.
If your FTP program isn't being allowed to upload the changes, then maybe there are other permissions issues that your hosting company will have to help you fix.

Re: Where to Change the config.php file to point to new downloads folder?

Edit this line

define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'download/');

To be this in both of your config files just as outlined in the tutorial

define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', '/home/accountname/download/');

Assuming that you have this folder above your public_html

I can make the changes by changing the permissions. the problem is, it doesn't like the file paths I give it so I am wondering what exact coding or file paths I need to put into those spaces?

define('DIR_WS_DOWNLOAD_PUBLIC', DIR_WS_CATALOG . 'pub/');
define('DIR_WS_TEMPLATES', DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'templates/');

define('DIR_WS_PHPBB', '/');

define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'download/');
define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD_PUBLIC', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'pub/');

and

define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', DIR_FS_CATALOG . '/home/accountname/filename/');

So right now the folder that is located above the public_html folder is called something other than "download" do I need to change it to be that?

Re: Where to Change the config.php file to point to new downloads folder?

So right now I have this:

define('DIR_WS_DOWNLOAD_PUBLIC', DIR_WS_CATALOG . 'pub/');
define('DIR_WS_TEMPLATES', DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'templates/');

define('DIR_WS_PHPBB', '/');

// * DIR_FS_* = Filesystem directories (local/physical)
//the following path is a COMPLETE path to your Zen Cart files. eg: /var/www/vhost/accountname/public_html/store/
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home/accountname/public_html/store/');

define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'download/');
define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD_PUBLIC', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'pub/');

but I am wondering what I should change the red coding too, because everything i try shuts the store down. And my files are no longer at this location: /home/accountname/public_html/store

I am sorry to be so confusing. i have just tried everything and the paths I am putting in are not working and I don't know what I need to put into the red text spots exactly. The tutorial does not mention this set of coding specifically for the other configure.php file. Just for the one file.

You are correct - -
It can not know where it is unless you tell it where it is

Re: Where to Change the config.php file to point to new downloads folder?

It doesn't have to be called "download".
But, whatever you call it, is what you have to put in your configure.php files. The FAQ is very straightforward on that.

Simplified:

  1. Move the download folder to where you want it. If you feel you want to rename it, fine.
  2. Specify the new path that you moved it to, in both configure.php files.
  3. Upload the files, resetting permissions as needed.

Configure.php files don't magically change their contents on their own. You must do that. So, if the changes aren't "saving", then something you're doing isn't working to upload the changes.

Re: Where to Change the config.php file to point to new downloads folder?

I have done that and it is still shutting the store down. I think I am just missing a very simple thing, but not sure what it is. UGH! I am sorry. i really dd follow that tutorial to a "T".

The changes ARE saving, but the changes I am putting in are not working. That is why I think I have the paths wrong. What are the exact lines I need to change in the home/accountname/public_html/store/admin/includes/configure.php file? There are 3 that mention downloads which is not specified in the tutorial.

define('DIR_WS_DOWNLOAD_PUBLIC', DIR_WS_CATALOG . 'pub/');

define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home/accountname/public_html/store/');

define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'download/');
define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD_PUBLIC', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'pub/');

I try to change these lines and the store gets shut down saying I need to finish install. I think I have the other configure.php file done ok. That is only one line and the one that is specified in the tutorial. These lines however are not specified.

Re: Where to Change the config.php file to point to new downloads folder?

If it's saying you need to do a new install, then you broke the DIR_FS_CATALOG setting, or the configure.php file isn't even readable.
There is NO need to touch the DIR_FS_CATALOG value if all you're changing is the location of your download storage folder.

Also, the "/pub" folder references won't be in the FAQ because you DO NOT need to touch those lines AT ALL.

It was asking me to do a new install. That is what I meant by "shutting me down". Sorry I should have been more clear, had a long hard day! I just reuploaded what I had before and it went away. But I still have not got the file path right.

So, to make sure I understand, these lines in the /public_html/store/includes/configure.php I do not touch:

  define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'download/');
  define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD_PUBLIC', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'pub/');

The only other line that has download in it is this one:

  define('DIR_WS_DOWNLOAD_PUBLIC', DIR_WS_CATALOG . 'pub/');

So do I change this one, and if so, what do I change it to? If not then what do I need to change in this file? I am not seeing anything like what it mentions in the tutorial in this specific file.

It mentions this define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', but this line has DIR_FS_CATALOG . next to it which is not mentioned in the tutorial. I hope I am making sense. It has been a long day and my brain is not working anymore. Please let me know if I am just plain crazy. Thanks for your help.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!

Go back to the simple 3-step FAQ article: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=280

Step 3 shows you that you change the line starting with this:```
define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD',

That's the ONLY one you need to change, in both files.

Re: Where to Change the config.php file to point to new downloads folder?

That is what I was trying to say in my earlier post. Maybe I am just not explaining it well enough. The full line says this:

define('DIR_WS_DOWNLOAD_PUBLIC', DIR_WS_CATALOG . '/home7/accountname/');

There is no line that says ONLY define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', in the file. That is why I have been confused. It says to change this file and to change what you have included in the post above, but it does not have just this by itself in this file. See post #41.
