From your post #42:> lauriesscraps:
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home/accountname/public_html/store/');
define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'download/');
So, to restate what the FAQ article instructs:
Change this line:define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'download/');to read:```
define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', '/home/accountname/name_of_download_folder/');
This of course assumes that you DID actually move your download folder to /home/accountname/name_of_download_folder/
NOTE: YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TOUCHED *ANY* OTHER LINES AS PART OF THIS PROCESS. ANY OTHER CHANGES YOU'VE MADE TO YOUR CONFIGURE.PHP FILES AS PART OF RENAMING YOUR DOWNLOAD FOLDER SHOULD BE PUT BACK TO WHAT THEY WERE BEFORE!!!!!

Ok, I have changed this line from this:
define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'download/');
to this, taking out the **DIR_FS_CATALOG .** part and not touching anything else.
> // * DIR_FS_* = Filesystem directories (local/physical)
> //the following path is a COMPLETE path to your Zen Cart files. eg: /var/www/vhost/accountname/public_html/store/
> define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home/accountname/public_html/store/');
>
> define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', '/home/accountname/download_folder_name/');
> define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD_PUBLIC', DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'pub/');
But when I place an order in my store, I do not see a download link.

define('DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD', '/home/accountname/download_folder_name/');Did you do the same to your admin configure.php file?
You'll need to.
And then, in your Admin, go to Catalog->Downloads Manager. Do you see Green Dots next to each filename? If not, then the '/home/accountname/download_folder_name/' is clearly NOT the correct path where you've moved the folder to, which explains why you're not seeing the download links.

OK, I think the problem may be the way I set up my attributes. The attributes for the downloads are set at this right now : downloadsfilename/downloadableproductname.zip
So when I enter this: '/home/accountname/download_folder_name/' into the configure.php files I think they are overlapping eachother maybe.
I have moved my downloads folder to above the public_html folder, so I thought the path would be > '/home/accountname/download_folder_name/'
but since I already have the attributes set at this:
downloadsfilename/downloadableproductname.zip
I wondered if this was the problem. So i changed them and took out this part
'/home/accountname/download_folder_name/'
and just left is as
'/home/accountname/'
and that still didn't work either. I am sorry for all this. I know this is crazy, but i appreciate your help. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Sensei
DO NOT put foldernames in your attribute filenames.
If your attribute filename is downloadableproductname.zip then THAT is what you put in the attribute details.
And then you set the configure.php file to point to the EXACT path where ALL your downloadable files are located, such as '/home/accountname/download_folder_name/'
Zen Cart does NOT support subfolders/subdirectories in the download_folder_name folder in v1.3.x

OK, I knew that the mistake was something stupid and I would kick myself HARD when I fugured it out, but for some strange reason.....hahaha. I feel even more stupid. The problem was that I didn't take out the DIR_FS_CATALOG . part on the store/admin/includes/configure.php document. Now it is working I think so I owe you a HUGE thank you for putting up with me, and telling me to take a hike! Thank you sooooooo much!

OK, one last problem, I promise! I am getting this message at the top of my site:
Warning: The downloadable products directory does not exist: home/accountname/. Downloadable products will not work until this directory is valid.
but all my attributes are showing up as green and valid in the downloads manager. So what do I need to do to clear this? Both configure.php files are reading the same, with the same file path. Thanks again for helping. I think this one will be easier.
Sensei
It looks like it's missing a starting '/'
ie: **/**home/accountname/
That would be in your /includes/configure.php

Another simple and stupid thing I missed. UGH! I am just glad it is all fixed now and that you have the patience of Job. THANK YOU! You are amazing!

I really hate to kick this up because it looks like most of these issues have been thoroughly covered, but I've come up with yet another variation on the problem I think.
I relocated the download directory, edited the configuration files, and my downloads work smoothly.
BUT in the attributes controller, the red dot persists, indicating I've used an invalid filename or path (or something).
Since the downloads actually work, I'd be tempted to sneak away from this but presume it'll bite me some time in the future.
This is some kind of problem with the configuration files, right?
Thanks.
Sensei
Yes, your admin configure.php doesn't contain the same DIR_FS_DOWNLOAD value as your non-admin configure.php does. You need to fix your admin one since it's your admin that's not working properly.
Remember: if the file is read-only then you can't save changes to it without first making it writable. Then make it read-only again when finished.

Thank you; it's amazing how long I can stare at a typo and not see it.
A little rest never hurts either..........

Haha! Yup, me too! Thanks for confirming that you found the problem.
