Postage won't go less than £1 ??

I'm trying to set postage for the UK at 0.50 but the cart defaults to £1.

Is there a setting I need to adjust to switch off the default or minimum ...or is is just something I'm not doing?

What shipping mod are you enabling? Are you calculating your shipping by weight, or price. if by weight, then you may need to adjust TARE settings in ADMIN>>>CONFIGURATION>>>SHIPPING/PACKAGING

What shipping module(s) are you using?

(If you are trying to charge shipping by PRICE, why are you setting it to price by WEIGHT?)

Re: Postage won't go less than £1 ??

I don't understand what you are asking.

In Shipping modules I have configured 'Zone Rates'.

I am using weights (kilos) because the items differ in weight vastly.

One £5 item could be paper and weigh less than 100 grams, and another £5 item could be ceramic and weigh 500 grams.

Equally, they are shipped around the world, so I need three zones.

....however, the problem I have is that it default to £1 for minimum postage whereas I want the minimum UK to be 50p.

You suggested changing the TARE, at the moment it is 0.0 ... what should it be?

Thank you for your help

Re: Postage won't go less than £1 ??

The TARE settings in CONFIGURATION>>>SHIPPING are taking into account the fact that the packaging you use also has WEIGHT and should be factored into your shipping costs. a product weighing 1kg, when packed, will have a weight of more than 1kg - because the packaging materials will have some weight themselves.

When you uploaded your products, you would have set each product's weight - a ream of paper = 1.00kg, for example

If you are packaging your products in solid gold boxes before sending them out, these gold boxes will weigh quite a bit, so you have to apply a formula that (as reasonably as possible) ADDS the weight of the gold packaging boxes to the weight of the product itself. (If the gold boxes weigh 2kg, and the product weighs 1kg, then the overall SHIPPING weight of the parcel is 3kg)

SEE THE WIKI about this at: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Admin_-_Configuration_-_Shipping/Packaging

When you have inserted the TARE formulas, you will now need to set your ZONE shipping charges, so in

ADMIN>>>MODULES>>>SHIPPING>>>ZONE RATES

You will set up the countries for each of the zones you choose, and then apply formulas to establish weight thresholds, and the applicable charges.

Your ZONE 1 COUNTRIES could be:-
GB

Your ZONE 1 SHIPPING TABLE could look like this:-

5:0.50,10:1.50,15:2.00

This says
"For packages that weigh UP TO 5kg, the cost is £0.50" (5:0.50,)
"For packages that weigh UP TO 10kg, the cost is £1.50" (10:1.50,)
"For packages that weigh UP TO 15kg, the cost is £2.00" (15:2.00)

Re: Postage won't go less than £1 ??

Thank you

I fully understand what TARE is...what I can't seem to do is get the cart to stop charging a £1 postage fee for an item that I want to charge 50p.

In Modules>Shipping>zones I have set the shipping table to 100:0.50,

I keep changing the TARE vale from 0.0, and increments of 1 to test the results but it steel keeps coming back at £1

Is there another configuration that I am missing?

Re: Postage won't go less than £1 ??

Sadly thaty didn't work.

Is there a clue here;

In the Estimated Shipping Costs 'pop-up' it has this
Total Items: 1 Weight: 0.01kgs Amount: £5

Then
Zone Rates (Shipping to GB (1 x 0.51lb(s))) £1

One is in kilos the other in pounds. I don't think 100 grams is half a Pound?

Re: Postage won't go less than £1 ??

The kg / lbs name (description) issue will not affect the calculation. To get all your DEFINES to kg (instead of lbs) you simply change the defines in appropriate language php files. I think the relevant DEFINES are in english.php (which should be edited and saved to your over-rides directory)

In your ZONES shipping settings, have you clicked all the appropriate radio buttons that set the calculation method to WEIGHT and not PRICE?

It could also be that your tare settings are still not correct, becuase while the ITEM weight is 0.01, the shipping weight is 0.51 - it's having half a kilo added to the 0.01 (0.01 + 0.50 = 0.51).

Further than this I don't know what to suggest...

Maximum 50 ...

100 / 50 = 2

2 * .50 = 1.00

I do believe the Maximum Shipping setting is against you on this ...

You need to adjust that to work for your settings ...

Re: Postage won't go less than £1 ??

The Maximum is usually related to the largest box by weight in lbs ...

NOTE: lbs is just a label ... you can use this as you need it for your shop ...

You are using kgs ... so 50 kgs is the largest you say you ship ...

This means when the order is over 50 kgs it breaks it into chunks of 50 or less ...

If you want 200kgs or 400 kgs in a box, then you need to raise it as such to work right ...

So effectively, if I said say 5000000000 maximum, would that cover it?

WHERE, (in your admin panel) are you setting this 5000000 amount?
