Empty Cart Manager [support thread]

This is the support thread for the Empty Cart Manager contribution.

This mod provides a delayed redirect from the empty shopping cart page to a customised contact form.

The contact form comes in two variations. You choose which prior to installation.

One variation is a Help Form. This is used to 'rescue' the order. The customer uses the form to ask questions.

The second variation is an Improvement Form. To use this, you are accepting the order is lost but you are asking why.

Aside from the wording, the major difference between the two variations is that the Improvement Form does not ask for the customer's name or email address. Such anonymity helps with responses.

Of course, you can always mix and match the variations, or even use the form for a completely different approach.

To test, visit pilonidalproducts.com and add then remove a product from the cart. At the time of writing, I am using the Improvement Form.

Installation comprises of 9 files. 8 new files and 1 to override.

This mod can be found in the Downloads section:

Re: Empty Cart Manager [support thread]

Hi There :)

I installed the version of this Mod that was updated by ulitmate_zc. This is the version that allows you to turn on/off this contribution from the Admin as well as selecting which form to choose, either the Help form or Improvement form.

After following all the installation & configuration instructions, testing (adding and removing an item from the shopping cart) results in a semi-blank shopping cart page. The left sideboxes are present, but the center box and right sideboxes are gone.

When I remove the merged code from the tpl_shopping_cart_default.php file, the shopping cart page displays as it should, although the Mod doesn't work, which is to be expected.

Suggestions?

Re: Empty Cart Manager [support thread]

Hi. You might try the latest version, v1.2. I have this running fine on my site. I'm not sure why you didn't download the latest version?

I didn't write 1.1a, nor do I use it, so I can't help much there. You can remove it using the uninstall sql script from 1.2. Remember to replace all the files as well.

If you experience any blank parts with 1.2, use this tool and get back to me.

Re: Empty Cart Manager [support thread]

Hi Steven :)

Regarding using the wrong version: I probably just clicked the wrong button and didn't realize it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I'll uninstall the version I have now and install the current version later tonight and get back to you then.

Thanks much!

Re: Empty Cart Manager [support thread]

I've compared the two versions. The reason I downloaded the other one is because it had been tweaked to allow both forms to be installed and a switch in the Admin which allows for easy form switching.

I chose that one because I wasn't sure which form I wanted to use and wanted to have both available to me.

I've since decided which one I want to use, so this version will work fine for me.

I'll be installing it shortly and don't expect any problems, but if I run into any blank pages, I'll run the utility you suggested and report back here.

Thanks much!

Re: Empty Cart Manager [support thread]

Ok, I have it all installed and I see that your most recent version of this Mod gives me the same functionality as the out of date one that I originally downloaded.

All the better!

Works like a charm with no problems!

Thank you so much for your guidance and support - and thank you for the wonderful Mod!

You're welcome. I'm pleased it's working for you now

Yes, I should have mentioned 1.2 retains all the functionality of 1.1a.

Re: Empty Cart Manager [support thread]

Hey Steven,

I've been looking through the files that came with this mod, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

I'm looking to change the email address that the form is sent to, from my core store email address to my customer service email address.

I've found a couple places that I thought might have been it, but they represented the email address of the person submitting the form, rather than the send to email address.

What am I missing?

Re: Empty Cart Manager [support thread]

I'm using the cherry_zen_template_1-5 after looking at the
cherry_zen_template files I see there is no tpl_shopping_cart_default.php in includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/
What I'm I suppose to Merg to get this Module to work? I'm not really sure.
Thank you

Hi CountryCharm,

I went to your site, put the first item shown into my cart, and was able to see the cart page and side boxes just fine.

I then removed the item and was redirected to the form page.

From what I see, it's functioning perfectly.

Have you fixed it since you posted? If so, it's good to mention you've done so here on the forum :)

Hi CountryCharm,

You have to copy the file from includes/templates/templates to includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates in order to see the file there.

Have you read up on using the override system? If not, you'll want to do so before you do any more editing. Files that you have changed that are not overriden (i.e. copied into your "YOUR_TEMPLATE" directory) will be replaced with original Zen Cart Files next time you update your Zen Cart version. In other words, any customization you do without having an override system in place will result in losing all your work when you update your version of Zen Cart.

To answer your question about merging... here's what that means:

Let's say you've made a change to your tpl_shopping_cart_default.php file prior to installing this mod (because maybe you installed another mod that also modifies that file, for example)

If you install this mod, those previous changes will be lost.

What you do instead is copy/paste the code listed in the Merge section of the Mod instructions, into your existing and already modified tpl_shopping_cart_default.php file.

If you haven't made any changes to that file, then you should be ok with just installing the file, rather than merging it. Always create backups before making any changes!

(I've learned that lesson the hard way)

Read up on the override system here:

Thank you for your reply. I might have not made myself clear here.
I understand about the override system, but thank you for pointing that out. What I was saying by using cherry_zen_template_1-5 it does not have a file in includes/templates/MY_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_shopping_cart_default.php.
it uses a different file all together and I am not sure witch file it uses. I'm not really sure I can even use this Module because of it.
You said you went to my site and you had no problems but I'm still showing the same thing as I mention above. Here is a picture of what I see here.

Thank you for your help.,

Re: Empty Cart Manager [support thread]

Hi there,

You're right...terrible oversight on my part. The sideboxes are indeed missing for me as well. But all is not lost just yet.

Do you have this:

includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_shopping_cart_default.php

I'm thinking that without that file, the page wouldn't display at all - with or without this mod.

Look to see if you have it. If you do, copy it to

includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates

Remember that nothing will be in the "YOUR TEMPLATES" until you copy it there from the template_default directory unless you install it from a mod. It sounds like for whatever reason, this file didn't install when you installed your mod. You could go back and check the directory structure for the mod files and make sure you named everything appropriately, or you could do it another way.

Try This:

Once you've copied the file from template_default/templates to YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates, do this:

go to includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/
and locate the file, click edit, & find this section of text:

<h2 id="cartEmptyText"><?php echo TEXT_CART_EMPTY; ?></h2>Right below that, paste this:
<!-- BEGIN Empty Cart Manager 1/1 --> <?php if (DISPLAY_EMPTY_CART_MANAGER == 0) { } else { ?> <br /> <div align=center> <script type="text/javascript"> document.write('<?php echo REDIRECT_MESSAGE_EMPTY_CART; ?>'); setTimeout( "window.location.href = '<?php echo zen_href_link(FILENAME_CART_MANAGER, '', 'NONSSL'); ?>'", 5*1000 ); </script> <noscript></noscript> </div> <?php } ?> <!-- END Empty Cart Manager 1/1 -->

You have now merged the original file with the mod file thru simple copy/paste.

Save the file, refresh your browser, and you're done.

Hope this helps :)

Re: Empty Cart Manager [support thread]

Thank you for your help on this. That worked out great. Everything is looking like it should now except one thing. When you put an Item in your cart at the top it says this
Your Shopping Cart Contents
You may want to add some instructions for using the shopping cart here. (defined in includes/languages/english/shopping_cart.php)

Where do I fix this at. Thank you again.

Re: Empty Cart Manager [support thread]

Oh, you'll love this cuz it's really easy!!

As a matter of fact, the text on the page gives you a big hint. Go to includes/language/english/ and find the file shopping_cart.php

Then copy it to:

includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE (if it's not already in there)

And find this on the 4th line of code:

define('TEXT_INFORMATION', 'You may want to add some instructions for using the shopping cart here. (defined in includes/languages/english/shopping_cart.php)');delete the words in red and replace it with whatever you want to put in there. Make sure you leave the ' before and after the text, and the ); after the ' or your page will disappear.

define('TEXT_INFORMATION', 'You may want to add some instructions for using the shopping cart here. (defined in includes/languages/english/shopping_cart.php)');

Good luck!

OH, and if you don't want any text there, just get rid of the stuff in red, but leave both of the ' and the ); so that it looks like this:

> define('TEXT_INFORMATION', '');
