I would setup a test site in a directory like:
/working
and make a new database such as: working
And then install v1.3.8 with demo products for testing on the new test site with the new database ...
Then install the USPS update and install this into your cart and see if it works ...
If it does work, then add the Zone and see if it still works ...
If it still works, then there is something wrong on your Live site to fix ...

I'll do that and post an update in a day or so. ;)

The weight on the DVDs is set to 0.443 on each product screen. I remember reading something about weights... Is that a correct format?
Oba-san
As long as you are entering your weights in decimal format, that will work ...
For France, I am getting:
United States Postal Service (1 x 0.44lbs) (Express Mail International (EMS) (6 days)) $25.95
United States Postal Service (1 x 0.44lbs) (Priority Mail International (6 - 10 days)) $24.00

Are you saying it's now working on your end?
I've set up a test cart and it seems to be working. Does that mean I have to do a clean install on the Live store?
Oba-san
No, it means something on the Live store is not correct ...
You might try something like Beyond Compare from scootersoftware.com and see if you can see differences in the code from your site and the original files that might be conflicting ...
You know the clean install is working without any problems ... but something on the Live site is not working right and this is either a setting that we are missing or a conflict on a file ...
Without sitting down and actually doing the comparison of your site to a clean Zen Cart and checking your Admin settings, this is really hard to guess at ...

I'll try that software, thanks. :)

I don't see anything that'd cause shipping problems except maybe for this in the tpl_module_create_account.php (used to make it look like there's no login required). Could this be the problem?
<div id="nodisplay"> <label class="inputLabel" for="password-new"><?php echo ENTRY_PASSWORD; ?></label> <?php echo zen_draw_password_field('password', 'dhJ2635TGb813iw72OnE0', zen_set_field_length(TABLE_CUSTOMERS, 'customers_password', '20') . ' id="password-new"') . (zen_not_null(ENTRY_PASSWORD_TEXT) ? '<span class="alert">' . ENTRY_PASSWORD_TEXT . '</span>': ''); ?> <br class="clearBoth" /><label class="inputLabel" for="password-confirm"><?php echo ENTRY_PASSWORD_CONFIRMATION; ?></label>
<?php echo zen_draw_password_field('confirmation', 'dhJ2635TGb813iw72OnE0', zen_set_field_length(TABLE_CUSTOMERS, 'customers_password', '20') . ' id="password-confirm"') . (zen_not_null(ENTRY_PASSWORD_CONFIRMATION_TEXT) ? '<span class="alert">' . ENTRY_PASSWORD_CONFIRMATION_TEXT . '</span>': ''); ?> <br class="clearBoth" /> </fieldset> </div>Oba-san
You might try putting back the original code to see what happens ...
NOTE: Another thing you can do is copy your Live Site to a different test site than either your Live site or that new install and copy your database to another database and set that up in the 2 configure.php files to test fixing your site ...

I'll make the test cart a duplicate of the current one and restore that file...
Zen Follower
Done but I still get $0 shipping. Id it possble that the update revealed a bug?
What should I do next?
Oba-san
You may need to post in Commercial Help Wanted to have someone go through your site for both data or errors in the files ...

Ok, that closes the thread then. Thanks for trying. ;)

Humm... I tried a clean install with the USPS update but using the current database. I'm still getting $0 international shipping: doesn't that mean that the problem is in the settings, not the actual code?
If so, which setting would cause this?
Oba-san
Off hand I don't know ...
Try turning on Flat or Item just to see if the shipping itself is working for anything ...

I have turned off the USPS zone (international) and I still get $0 (domestic and international); the per item rate works. The handling fee charged for international rates ($10.15 in USPS settings) is not even showing up during checkout.
I'm using Attributes to increase the price of DVD sets but I don't think that'd cause this.
I must be missing a setting but I don't know which one... The test site works with the USPS update and a clean database but it returns $0 shipping when I upload the current database. Any ideas?
Oba-san
If your database loaded to the clean site suddenly makes that one break, then you would have bad data somewhere ...
I would really have to go through the database via phpMyAdmin and search out what is the cause for this as this is not normal behavior, to say the least ...
You might try saving the configuration table from the test site and the configuration table from the live site to a file ... sort in order by configuration_key ... and compare the two with something like Beyond Compare from scootersoftware.com to see where the differences are and if they make the issue stand out ...

I found something... "Enable USPS Shipping" is not there in the Live site while it's there on the test cart. That'd explain why it's not displaying rates!
USPS is set to True so where should I look?
Oba-san
Go to the Modules ... Shipping ... and REMOVE USPS ...
Browser your configuration table in phpMyAdmin and find any configuration keys that start with:
MODULE_SHIPPING_USPS
as it is not installed, you should not have any ... if you do, delete them ...
Once the configuration table is clean, then go back and install and configure your USPS shipping module ...
