Looking for a clean template

I've searched the templates over and over and can't quite find the style I'm looking for. The biggest thing I'd like is for the Categories section to be neet and tidy with only the category names, no dashes or counts. A clean bulleted list would be the best. Also, a nice soft frame around each 'section' to distinguish it apart from the rest of the page. Oh, and a nice big header / logo section too.

Is there a template out there that I'm overlooking???

As you know, most of what you want is achieved through the stylesheet.

I would advise against a "nice big header" - this usually requires customers to SCROLL DOWN before they see a proper display of your products. This becomes very annoying - every time a new page loads, they have to scroll before they can see what they came there for!

All successful commercial sites keep company branding to a minimum - a SMALL logo in the header, commonly no deeper than 50 pixels.

This is to ensure that the PRODUCTS enjoy as much space on the screen as possible.

Afterall, that's why potential customers are there - to see PRODUCTS - not to gloat and coo over your massive company logo (only you will do that, no-one else cares a hoot!)

I would also narrow the width down to about 800px wide. Full screen looks amateurish, and besides many people still have screen resolutions at 800px wide.

Here's a stylesheet you may like to try. Make and store a copy of YOUR stylesheet on your home computer, then apply this one. (If you like it, keep it, and of course, you can edit it any way you want.)

The main wrapper is 800px wide and the logowrapper is 65px deep (So any logo you put in should be 800 X 65).

Simply copy the contents of the box below, into a PLAIN TEXT EDITOR such as notepad++ or Crimson Editor, then save it as stylesheet.css . Then FTP to your template's css folder. (NB: As stated, Make an off-line backup of your stylesheet - as they now have the same names!)

Amen. Check the major mass-market retailers (Walmart, Target, Meijer, Costco, etc.) - all have pretty tiny logos/headers.

(Although I guess it's fair to mention that their brands are already well established by other means.)

Could one of you help me figure out where to change the Links for the Logo Image and the 'Home' text? I'd like them to take the customer back to my main page, not the store main page.

Next thing... a RECOMMENDATION...

You are displaying the Categories-Tabs menu (the menu of categories under the header).

This is not necessary, as you have your categories in the sidebox. I suggest you DISABLE the Cat Tabs menu for the time being (as I am later going to suggest you use EZ_pages Header for other important links)

If you have BOTH header menus the page looks too busy and gets confusing...

How do you get rid of one of the Search Windows? I'd like to keep the one in the top header perhaps, get rid of the sidebar one?

Both are removable in Admin - Tools - Layout Boxes Controller

If you haven't been there before, search the tutorials/FAQ for 'template' and create your own template before you go much further.

Thank you! I found that search window. I didn't realize that the Header one was actually 2. I had to activate my Search side box, it wasn't activated.

Good progress so far. I see the search header has been de-activated and a sidebox is there - much better. It's cleaner and starting to be free of too much detail.

I've been in meetings this afternoon, so I'm going to have a look at some functional elements now and get back to you in about 20 minutes.

THANK YOU! Great choice of colors! Do you think the side boxes would show up better with the blue instead of the pink though? The white text is kind of hard to see with the pink...

I think I must be working off 2 stylesheets because even after I deleted the working one, the sidebox borders and green headers stayed??

My working css file is under a template folder named Wallet (I changed it from the wallet stylesheet).
