I suggest that try to re-install the mod and follow the instructions EXACTLY, becausethe mod works, and IMHO the chances are at least 95% that the installation is at fault, particularly if you can't see it in the Admin!!

I saw your web http://ho-hose.co.uk/store/index.php and you have nice seo urls like this http://www.ho-hose.net/store/Vintage...p-3/chapter-20 . I mean category (Vintage-Hosiery-Adverts-ezp-3 and so on) in url.
I've just installed SEO URL 3.0.0 beta. I have only name of products in my urls - no category. What is the problem?

Hi again Blag,
Thanks for the reply.
I have done all what you suggested, but still have the problem.
If I turn the mod on, the browser hangs
If I turn it off, everything works just fine.
I have uninstalled it, re-installed it, set it with mod rewrite on, and off,
and every other possible setting.
I installed it every time going by the PDF manual, but no use.
I am gonna give it one more go today and if not I will have to pay.
I emailed the people from Magic...
about the link, and they said that they can give a version without the link
if the customer specifically asks.
Thx again for your suggestions
Peter
Hi
Pete3006
Did you have the previous version 2.105 installed?
If so, ensure that you have removed ALL the previous 2.105 stuff from the .htaccess file. (i didn't at first and had probs)
Have you checked with your web host that your server supports mod rewrites?
How about setting up a dummy store (in a different sub-directory) from scratch and install just this mod? That should prove that it works. If it doesn't, then it's either the installation or your server's settings.
BTW 95% of problems related to this mod seem to be related to incorrect installation.
Hi Blag
No, I didnt have this mod installed as I am just doing a brand new shop
OK
Is this the ONLY mod that you have installed? If not, did you follow up my suggestion to clean install to a different subfolder and thereafter install the mod?
Did you install all the 'updates' to the mod from the web site? (They are included in the attachment to an earlier post by me)
Hi
I still have problems with this mod (either version 2.105 or 3 beta) and wondered if someone knowledgeable would be so kind as to help to put me out of my misery.
If the user selects an alternative currency in my store they are immediately returned to the Home page and the currency doesn't change from the default i.e. stays at GBP.
If I disable SEO Url's the problem goes away. POUF! Just like that. GONE.
The problem I previously had with Google transaltor breaking the site has gone, (maybe I fixed something) but try as I might, I just cannot get this problem with the currencies to go away.
HELP, please.
ok i deceide to try again. first time around my site wouldn't even show up nothing just blank screen.. well months gone past and i have a clean site. installed the newest version. fellow step by step. the address llooks like its working but every page goes to page not found and it displays my sitemap for all pages. no matter which page you pic it displays title page not found and list my sitemap. turn it off i get long adress names ut everything works. any ideas?? i tried both differnet .htaccess for i didn't have one in the first place. :frusty: need help please
I've got this installed but the links to shipping, privacy, contact us, etc all give 404 errors.
Why? Did I miss something in the install or set-up?
The mod works in both versions - it's as simple as that.
Which version of ZC are you using, and which version of the mod have you installed?
I suggest that you methodically adjust with the settings from Admin, sucessively testing the effect of each 'option'.
Double-double check the files, and then if it's not working, leave it for a day, and re-check with an open mind.
Ensure that you have followed all the instructions - exactly. Ensure that your FTP software hasn't missed an upload - it can happen!!
Is your site/store on a re-direct or similar?
Like a few of the members, I too am encountering the error:
Fatal error: Class coreadvancedsearchresultseourlplugin: Cannot inherit from undefined class coreadvancedsearchseourlplugin in /home/site/public_html/includes/classes/seo/seo.url_plugins/__core__/advanced_search_result.php on line 15
I added the following code (Red text) but then suddenly my admin page became blank after I login:
Can someone send me the patch at stenrique_ng AT yahoo DOT com? I have registered at http://bugs.smarterwebdev.com/index.php but have not received any activation email. Requests for the activation email but to no avail.
TIA.
you know!
the main problem in this Mod
and why it goes crazy on some websites and fine on others while all or at least most of us install it correctly is that you are using a BETA version
i asked many friends of mine who works on PHP coding and some of them are PHP freaks by the way they just don't want to see the code because it still BETA
eveyone says just forget about it, its beta
and i don't think that Chemo willl be working to give you a free, ready to install, SEO URL... because he is not even answering , as far as i know, here
get Magic SEO man and tell them not to include their link into your main page cuz you are buying it, and if they want to include their link to your main page the whole code should be free because your URL is powered by ;)
best wishes
saher
Hello, I've got this installed but it all appears to be working right except when you hover over the links they still point to the regular URL's. When you click them you get forwarded to the SEO friendly URL which works fine.
Obviously it's not ideal though as each click takes two page loads.
You can see the site at www.houseofmistry.co.uk any ideas? I had 've uploaded all the files from 2.105 (had the 2.10 files uploaded before but had issues with the installation at application_top.php)
I have that same problem when I first visit my site, but it corrects itself as soon as you click the first link, and from then on, it's fine, until you close your browser and start all over. Very weird problem.
This modified version of Dreamscape's contribution Ultimate SEO URLs by Imagina Web Design and Development works perfectly on my fresh install of 1.3.7.
MAN FINALLY!!!!!!
you know i had the 3.0Beta one installed and it never worked
i deleted all the files for the v3b and i uploaded the new files again and they started to work automatrically!
Jesus, Finally i have SEO
but i still wonder about the version 3.
it never worked correctly, after having the right link displayed, i have the page not found all the time :lamo:
but thats fine now!
thanx everybody!
Hey, I'm running version 3b on both of my sites. They are both working fine, but should I upgrade??
if they work fine then forget about it
and by the way, i doubt that anyone can know why it works on someone's site while it don't with others
It's not that it works on one site and another: the version 3 beta works, it's as simple as that. Correctly installed on a fresh sitem, as a post above testifies, it works.
I would hazard a guess and say that if it didn't work, it wasn't correctly installed. It is imperative that all the instructions in the PDF file, and all the bug fixes /updates are installed. (I think that if you were to take all the posts about mods not working throughout ALL Zen Cart Forums, you would find that at least 75% of the problems are due to a bad install, or failing to follow the instructions implicitly. On some occasions it's not due to error on the part of the 'installer' - some FTP programs can fail to upload all the files/components to the user's store and don't warn the user!!)
It is, of course, possible that other modes might conflict with this, but that's another matter.
For those of you claiming that this works, how did you resolve the attribute issue where this mod messes up the link for products with attribute? How did you resolve the issue with regards to products that have ' in the name? When this mod is installed, search result does not yield any result of product name inlcudes '
heheheeee
tell him to check it out behind there is above 100 duplicated answers to his question i think
anyhow
i think there is another problem with it, i doubt that uploading the files for more than 7 times and installing it 4 times will result the same problem if its about the FTP program or installation.
but anyhow
its fine now :)
I've had a look at this magic SEO mod. I need to have a little more testimony if I'm going to be splashing out that much for one mod, I mean, I've been caught out before. As in...It's been a while since I've been round this way, so by way of hopefully helping others understand, here's
a summary of the Ultimate SEO URL situation
as I see it.
In this post on 11th October 2006, The project goal was for $500, and from that page you'll see that $575 was raised on time, most like me contributed $25, some contributed $100 or more.
And that was the last we heard of it. No explanation. Chemo/Dreamscape/Josh was logging into the forums regularly, but not replying to any threads. There was no suggestion of ill-health, so a group of us contacted fundable and paypal to explain that the "product" part of the deal wasn't appearing.
In February, suddenly a great splodge of work appeared, along with the Bug Tracker (with many patches) and lots of activity in the forums. On the whole, the product was fine. I think the problem lies with the fact that the patches were never integrated with the product. I posted a patch file back in March 2007. Josh went AWOL again, but still logging into the Zen forums every few days.
The last time he logged in was 19th September 2007 12:07 AM and his last post was on 7th June 2007 which saidNow, it has occured to me more than once that Chemo refers to Chemotherapy. So the thing is, I really don't know what's going on here.
I think, without reasonable explanation, some people are allowed to feel irked.
After all, the deal was "pay me $500 in x amount of time and I'll make v3 of this mod". The result was $575, on time, and a half-finished Beta. I'm not saying that, if there are genuine health issues I expect this to be finished, but for those saying "don't expect him to make you something for free", we didn't.
Would that be a fair summary of the situation?Well, there's an interesting thing - I'll admit I didn't notice that. CU SEO was doing so well for us on Google, but now you've pointed that out, there could be issues. Has anyone tried escaping ( \' ) all the ' and " marks? Does the new version in downloads improve this? What about the Magic version?
Well, I hope this summary has helped others - now if someone could help me fill the gaps in my knowledge I'd be grateful!
Chemo was the username of the person that wrote the original SEO URLs mod for OSCommerce (his real name is Bobby Easland). He's not the same person as Dreamscape. As far as I know, Chemo has never done any work on Zen Cart mods. His name just got carried over when the mod was ported from OSCommerce to ZenCart.
Regards,
Christian.
Kelvyn,
Thanks for the summary and yes that reflects basically what happened. I am with you that Dreamscape's health if of great importance. I just which he would have done a better job of communicating before abandoning the project (especially given how the project was initiated with fundable).
Like, you we were experiencing great improvement with google and more importantly msn and yahoo with seo url but the two issues relating to attributes and ' in product name definitely stopped us from using it. We have 1,000s products with attributes and google started indexing wrong urls which didn't help our situation. Too many 404 errors.
Magic SEO works fine and I talked with them. There are some issues for our situation that prevented us from using i.e. it doesn't support more than 3 category levels and I believe there is an issue with how it handles http versus https for the same domain.
It's very promising and they are going to address most limitations in January 2008.
Although, I am in no way associated with them, I'd imagine if you contact them they will give you a discount on multiple orders. It never hurts to ask. The one good thing is they provide updates with every Zen Cart releases (if it breaks the seo url) which is priceless given how much time we spend chasing code changes to make this thing work. :)
I think what Dreamscape has done so far is great. I think that this mod should be considered as another add on to zen-cart. I understand the designers don't want to create a bloated shopping cart e commerce program, but maybe one of you guys could look into the issue that BlessIsaacola brought up.
hey man
sorry to say the word "Answers" in fact i meant posts.
but there was an answer in fact that has a link in the thread i can't find it now but i went to the mod bug site where dreamscape reported the error of the attributes there...
he reported it as a fixed problem in fact but i don't know where is the solution it seems that either he forgot to attach the needed script or i don't know
you can find it here:
http://bugs.smarterwebdev.com/view_bug.php?bug_id=14
do you have an account there?
thats what he's writing:
thats your problem right?Quote:
Products in the shopping cart that contain attributes display an incorrect url in the shopping cart.
The url appears as:
-p-{id}:{attribute_string}
When it should appear as:
{item_name}-p-{id}:{attribute_string}

for me i removed version 3.
and im using the older version that was subbmited few threads above with the paches for Zen 1.3.7, and it works well with the attributes.

Yeah! I am aware of all the things you posted above. I know Dreamscape fixed a lot of stuff but he never released all of them as patches or even posted codes. There are only five patches he released even though there are more fixes than that.
There are too many know problems with version 2 as well but I am okay now as I have purchased magic seo url which works flawlessly.
do any one knows or can link to me where i can know the problems of Version 2?
because it looks that the SEO if working fine with me but im interested to see if there is any point i can't see somewhere...
regards
You can pick up from where Dreamscape started collecting bugs from version 2 that he fixed in version 3.0. There are inconsistent issues with customers not being able to login after creating account (fixed in v3 and it was discussed). There are also issues with product types (which may have been fixed in 2.105) but definitely fixed in v3.0. There is also an issue with PayPal IPN just to mention a few.
I only try to clarify it (I know you are already using Magic SEO URL, but for others). HTTPS is supported by Magic SEO URL automatically (in case of http://www.example.com and https://www.example.com). Only if the HTTPS connection is different it is necessary to enable it manually.
well, but i think that this version is having a technical solution is that i can define the category that the SEO will be working on, that i disabled the SEO on my cart, logging area, reviews and some others that might face problems using the SEO, and thats good, for me, i need the SEO on the products and their attributes, and i don't care if the link for the cart was PHP one, because m y target is to promote my products on search engines not my cart, because my cart will follow...as far as i know!
dont you think so?
I have this mod correctly installed on http://www.fuzzibunz.us and I am trying get it working on http://thebestofgifts.com I have done the .htaccess files the same with the same settings in Admin but the gifts site goes to error pages for the index and all categories.
Any idea what's happening here? The first is hosted with ICDsoft and the second with Godaddy. The Godaddy site is for a client and I am not familiar with them and don't know if that is what is making the difference. The site works fine when SEO URLs are turned off.
Thanks, Amy
it seems there are certain options on the hosting server that effects te working of the SEO that yet we didn't recognize them...
well, for me i removed V3.0beta, and i installed v2.1.. with Zen 1.3.7 enabled, it have some patches, and it worked very great, it allowed me to enable and disable SEO in any section i want, among these sections are the cart and the login page.
it only have one problem, sometimes when the scripted is not loaded completely i see the ?zenid=...... after the .html
but its still fine for me,, my ranking is imporoving slowely but fine!
i think that you should use it also, because the functions in v3 depends on the server settings i think.
best wishes
saher
For some reason this contribution always broke my site. I tried first with a new install copying the files; than semi-automatic with another install. It seems that the only option left is to make it manual. I did this, however there is nothing that looks like this:
(instruction2)
Open your Zen Cart file `includes/application_top.php` and find the following code around line 355:
require(DIR_WS_LANGUAGES . $template_dir_select . $_SESSION['language'] . '.php');
// include the extra language translations
include(DIR_WS_MODULES . 'extra_definitions.php');
Could somebody please help me? Maybe there is a problem with this contribution and the latest version of ZenCart? I'll appreciate your help/emails/posts.
Thank you,
Greg
The only real problem with Magic SEO urls is that they force you to have a link to their website in your webpage. For me that isn't very professional as I don't want links to other peoples website on my ecommerce site.
If they would give the option to remove the link it would be great.
I did tell them and they refused to remove it and gave me a refund instead.
I tried to explain I did not want a footer link and they just said they had wasted too much time helping me and wouldn't do it.
How strange?
I stand corrected. Magic SEO Urls does now offer the option to not have a footer link - you have to ask them apparently.
Considering this, it's the best solution for Zencart and does work flawlessly.
I've been reading this thread for many months and people are still trying to figure out hot to setup this great MOD; I could not do it either.
I think you should wait till next release, there has not been a good solution yet for the current version.
I'm still waiting.
Thanks guys for the great work and support.
I Am not an Export
But getting the Magic SEO and installed for abut month or so, i see no decrees in traffic, actually THE opposite, I got my ranking up last week , so it mean it is not doing any bad to my web site
And the support and service from Magic SEO, are above what I accepted.
I don't mean to jump omn the band wagon but I also broke down and bought Magic SEO for one of my domains. I've been able to get Chemo's to work on some domains but not others (all on the same host and server).
The product simply works and I got very good support via email while installing it. Turned out to be a simple misunderstanding on my part.
I've much rather install a free mod than pay for one but I had spent way too much time trouble shooting and still couldn't get it to work. I do hope they continue to develop it and will try it again.
Well, I am very happy with Magic SEO URL. Like you rightly said the amount of time spent to get this beta to work is actually more expensive than the cost of magic seo url.
As one of the people who funded this beta version, we actually contributed money to get this done but got a "beta" product. There were some that actually donated more money to this project than the cost of magic seo url and got nothing for it.
The ultimate seo url is actually not completely free because it was funded by a few us, we just didn't get a production ready mod for our contribution.
It's a no brainer, the benefit far outweigh the cost of magic seo url.
Disclaimer: I am in no way associated with Magic SEO company...I am just a happy customer of theirs.
Page rank is calculated quarterly by Google. My page rank also went up by 2 and I do not use any SEO URLs at all. I have yet to find any proof that they actually work. I understand it allows you to put keywords in your URLs, but you should be using your keywords in your links anyways.
I've written far more useful modules without getting a dime in return and here Magic SEO URLs is doing quite well from the community. Perhaps I would be better off going commercial as well...
There would be nothing wrong with providing commercial mods if you so desired. You have a lot of great mods. Easy Populate Advanced is another great mod that has via off from the free edition to provide more functionality packed into the EPA for $65 and definitely works great and the support is superb.
If for no other reason but to display nicely formatted url without strings, I will still purchase Magic SEO URL. It hasn't make much difference with Google but our ranking in both Yahoo and MSN is going up.
PageRank is calculated continually by Google. It is just the toolbar display that it is only update once every 3-4 months and that is mainly for entertainment purposes.
As far as I can tell it makes no difference at all to Google. Maybe a couple of years ago it did but now it is just a myth that people cling to.
Appropriate keywords in the anchor text is important.
Regards,
Christian.
I went with it because it made the url useful. Useful in a variety or reports and links and other ways. I don't believe it will have any effect on our rankings.
It seems Seo Urls 3.0.0-beta1 is not compatible with PHP5. My hosting company recently switched to PHP5 and SEO URLs stopped working. The main page of the store still works but when I click on a product it gives me a blank page with the following error: "No input file specified."
Temporary solution:
In order to continue to work you should specify your php scripts to be parsed by PHP4. You should add the following line to .htaccess:
I posted the bug here: http://bugs.smarterwebdev.com/view_bug.php?bug_id=32Code:AddHandler application/x-httpd-php4 .php
I am using Ultimate_SEL_URLs_v2.103 with ZC 1.3.7 and I don't have any problems with items with attributes (length or size) and no problems with ( ' or " or -) in the product name or category name.... they are taken out and it works fine for me.
.... I did have to make the one fix (a few post above) once I moved to an upgraded server ...
Shrimp-Gumbo
Sorry, but I have to report that Version 3.0.0-beta 1 IS compatible with php5. My store runs with php5 (but I am still running MySQL4), and the mod works just fine. See it for yourself here.
I've tested this with two different installations of Zen Cart.

Hi. As I said in my reply, it is not PHP5 that is the culprit, but I am unable to comment as to whether it is the combination of PHP5 and MySQL5 that is causing your problems, because I would need to transfer my files to a different server to be able to test this, with inevitable, unjustifiable, disruption.
Sorry to say that most problems with mods are due to problems with the installation. Sometimes FTP software doesn't upload every file and so on... Have you applied all the 'fixes/patches' to the uploads? If not, go back to about post 1201 or so in this thread, where you will find an attachment to a post by me. The attachment includes the 'patched/fixed' files for this mod.
Are you absolutely sure that you have followed the instructions in the PDF manual? Have you updated/modified you .htaccess file? and so on...
Just so you know the mod doesn't work just fine on your site. Add one of your product with attributes like color and size and then go into your shopping cart and mouse over the product name. You will see your url is messed up. Search engine will index the messed up url but when they come back it breaks.
Also, you PayPal Express returns a 404 error because you haven't applied the change that you need to which was posted on this thread.
There are issues relating to search that I can't test because your search is not working for me in IE 7.0
Again, I did not test for everything that I know is wrong with this mod that has been documented on this thread. Just the quick ones to let you know it doesn't work fully on your site.
I was going to do more test on your site but I see that you've temporarily disable ultimate seo url. BTW, your search now works in IE 7.0. You probably want to make sure you put a 301 redirect in your .htaccess for pages that may have been indexed by SEs (Assuming that they have rankings that you'd like to be pass around).
Not entirely sure what you mean by a 301 redirect - any guidance would be most appreciated.
I can't test in IR7.0, because I haven't yet been bold enough to try to the kludge/fix that allows IE6 and IE7 to be used separately on the same computer, so I can test in IE6.
BTW the search works fine as far as I can tell in Firefox, even with the mod enabled.
I do also have quite a few other problems of which I am aware, but these are mainly due to me trying to trim the code by removing unwanted stuff.
You referred to 'fixes' for the problems with the SEO mod - I don't suppose you could be so kind help an old fella by pointing me in the right direction?
All the fixes that you need are already in this thread. Unfortunately, because I have abandoned this mod for a superior SEO url mod, I am not as interested to dig through these 100+ pages to find the link. If you pick up about page 55 of this thread you should see all that you need. The Paypal Express fix is somewhere on page 105 and forward.
This mod is not production ready but if you're keen on it, everything that you need to at least make it worthwhile (with the exception of two issues that there are currently no fixes for) are all in this thread you just have to spend the time to dig through.
I realized I spent more time here than the $89 it cost me to get a superior SEO Url that works flawlessly. I had great hopes for this mod and I was part of the people that contributed to get this project then. Unfortunately, all we have to show for it is a Beta version that the creator (Dreamscape) said only a stupid store owner will use it in production. Those are his words not mine.
A 301 Redirect is simply a way for you to tell the Search Engine that the address has permanently changed and moved to this new location. It's like a forwarding address on file with the postal service only in this case it's robots.
I posted all the codes needed for different scenarios and what you need in your .htaccess on this thread as well.
Nothing I have said in this post is new, they are all part of this thread which is why I am not providing much because there is really not much new, this thing has been discussed over and over, you just need about 10 hours to read all the post. The big question is how much are you worth an hour?
Blag, you can go to our site in my signature to see how the seo url we using works and it also handles duplicate urls very well which is another thing you should be concern with Ultimate SEO URL.
Disclaimer: I am in no way associated with the company that makes the SEO URL we are using on our site. I just hate people wasting their valueable time (and trust me I have been there). I spent more than 50 hours easily trying to Ultimate SEO URL to work and boy, how I wish I could have that time back
Blag, A little bit unrelated but at the very least you want to make sure you test your store/mods in different makes and versions of browsers that your customers will like use. We use Google Analytics which provides nice data about the browsers people are using to access our site. IF things work in IE 6.0/7.0 and FF 2.0 and up you've basically covered more than 95%. Opera, Safari, etc. are out there but you have to decide if it's cost justifiable to test for them. We don't because they don't amount to much on our site.
Hi Everyone,
wooh, these thread is way too long..hehe
I just installed the this seo mod, but now I am having problems with the HTTPS links.
That is, https pages(account, checkout pages) return 404 (File Not Found) . But when SEO URL is disabled, the https pages (account, checkout pages) work just fine.
I have followed the instructions found here: http://www.dream-scape.com/pub/zenca...s/install.html
My Site has the following:
-Apache 2.0, PHP 5, Mysql 4.
-mod_rewrite is enabled
-Using private SSL
-HTTP_SERVER = http://www.mydomain.com
-HTTPS_SERVER = https://www.mydomain.com
-All files installed under this domain. (/home/<username>/public_html/)
-ENABLE_SSL = true
I'd really much appreciate it if you could point me to the right direction in fixing this.
Thanks!
Blag, my zen store worked perfectly just before my hosting provider switched to PHP5. So file upload error is not the problem.
My SEO Urls has all the patches published in the bug tracker here: http://bugs.smarterwebdev.com/index.php
And yes, I followed step by step evrything in the pdf help document but as I said my store worked fine untill the PHP5 switch.
I agree that the problem may not be entirely connected with the plugin but it is a fact that with SEO Url disabled the store works fine.
that what i was talking about at the begging when i had the problems like te others in running the SEO v3...
there is something wrong in the module preferences regarding the server-side options...
but v2.10 with zen 1.3.7 patches works so fine, you can check it on my store: www.alsousbros.com
and u can disable the SEO on the login , shopping cart and some other "problematic" area, so it will be going just fine...
best wishes
saher
Sorry, but I know that this IS a cop-out, but I've given up with this mod. there are just too many problems, and my time is better spent elsewhere. Please note that I am not alone in thinking that problems with the mod are not confined to the use of PHP5.
I am not (by any means) a code guru, and I'm sorry that I can't help more. Can you force your store to use PHP4 by putting a statement such as this
in your .htaccess file?Code:AddHandler application/x-httpd-php4 .php
(I have no idea whether this will work, of course, but my host has both php4 and php5 available on the server and to use php5 all I needed to do was add the same statement but with the '4' changed to a '5')
hi all,
I have added some new pages, SEO URL is on. For every page it is working fine.
But at one page there are 3 forms, one is not submitting any value.
The method of this form is post, I have also checked using get. But both POST or GET variable dont get any value.
When after submitting the form in header of the page(same page it submit, I need get some posted value from different input box), it dont get any values.
is it for .htaccess file or SEO URL?
another information is that it some time it submits to http:// and sometimes to https://, but without this form every form is working. Even at this page rest are working which submits to other pages.
If anybody can help me or give me the clue I will be very benifited. This is my first post....:)
Thanks a lot all
I just installed this. I didn't like the way a hyphenated word looked in the url. White spaces change to hyphens and hyphens are removed.
I went into the the admin for the product and reworded it. The url that I disliked still works, as well as the new url.
I have cleaned my cache, restarted the computer and the local server. I can take out the .htacess and the page won't load, but if I put it back the faulty url will load again.
The above happens even when the Enable seo urls is set to false. I really don't understand about the RewriteEngine. I tried cutting out the rules and saving with rewrite on or off and everything is good until I put the entire .htaccess back.
Can anyone tell me what I am missing? I don't want a bunch of possible duplicate content because of respelling a product name.
Somehow the address only requires the last few characters to work. you can cut the title of the product out and the page still works.
That is why the page would not go away, because it really did exist every time.
I still don't know why the seo link would work when it was turned off in the admin. Any Idea?
Just a dumb guess on my part, but could the SEO url work while the mod is turned off because your site still employs the same .htaccess? I believe there are two components to Chemo's:So, even when the first part is turned off, the second part still does its job.
- the part that builds the search-engine-friendly url for every page, and
- the .htaccess that parses those urls.
Maybe one of you more familiar with Chemo's can post some indication of whether my understanding of the mod is correct as described above ... ?
I think that is probably exactly why. If I don't have the .htaccess turned on the offending links don't work. I guess if nothing actually points to these phantom addresses then google probably won't be able to find them.
I am trying to understand the php, css, etc by trial and error. I just break things until they work. I feel better now that I understand that the title (that shows up in the url) really has nothing to do with the link resolving.
I am now trying to find out what duplication of url, title and metatags is acceptable. Yesterday was one of those bad days. Some days everything new I try just works and some days they don't. Thanks for the help!
Hi,
Does anyone know how to uninstall Ultimate SEO URL. I am thinking to switch to Magic SEO URL. If someone can provide me with a detailed instruction, it will be greatly appreciated. If this has been previously discussed, can someone help me locate it? Thanks in advance.
well, to uninstall it you have to look for its file on your server and delete them one by one, i think there is an sql patch also for installing and uninstalling it,,, if so just do it...
but use the updated version of SEO 2.10 before you swtich to magic seo...
regards
I believe it uses a configuration group name that you can use to remove. Try something like one of my uninstall.sql files for the Google Base Feeder on a test site. Renaming the configuration name of course.
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your suggestion. First of all, I don't have Ultimate SEO URL installed on a test site. Even if I did, it would be a different version from what I have on my actual site. Do you think this is feasible? What do you mean by renaming the configuration name? Rename what before/after running your uninstall.sql file?
I have an idea. What about just turn off Ultimate SEO URL in admin but not uninstall it. Then go on and install Magic SEO URL. Would they conflict each other?
SEO URL's installs to the configuration menu. Just like my feeders. So, use the uninstall portion from something like the Google Base Feeder and rename GOOGLE BASE FEEDER to SEO URLS.
But, you need to also remove all of the files and any core edits. This is the main reason I have never used SEO URLs because it seemed to require a lot of core changes? The MSU script is a single file and only one line changed in application_top.php. If you want to get SEO URLs on Zen Cart, this is your best bet. As Isaac said before, the time saved and the link back from MSU is worth the $89 price tag.
I have a problem with the new copy and patched version of seo urlS
My hosting connection is with GODADDY
the rewrite rule is working and supported.
Zen cart is with version 1.3.7
URL to my website is www.gems-gem.com
The configurations mentioned in all the files are worked with accordingly. Still i get 404 on every page i click. Interestingly, it points to right html url but all urls show the same 404 error.
This problem is prevelant with other people as well and no body answered it yet. I am ready to provide all information if somebody comes forward to help.
Regards,
A.J
a_jagawat: if you are still haing issues with this problem, please feel free to contact me by PM, and I'll take a look for you. If we can fix this for you away from the forum, rather than bloat it with loads of posts, I'll then add a post here with the fix, in case anyone else needs it!

Need help!
I used to have this contribution working perfectly on my 1.3.7 zencart. However, when I was trying to build a new site today with 1.3.8 zencart (not upgrade from the previous one), I could not find the "SEO URL" under configuration menu in admin after I installed everything just I did before. The only thing I did was intalling googlecheckout for 1.3.8 and some template override stuff. I am really confused. Where could it be wrong? Anybody could help? Thanks so much!
