Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hello Scrat Thanks for responding!
I am on a dedicated server. Had over 2,000 products building to just over 8,000. Too many? I changed the php.ini (max_input_time = 120) I can upload now, but there is no report - goes to page cannot display. Makes it difficult to say the least to not be able to see the upload report and details.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
overmyhead this is a know issue with EP 1.2.5.4, if you have over x number of products it will not report, but should still update / import / delete products. I am sure if you do a test on a product you will see it still works but just not reports. If you search in this thread it has been a issue for others.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Dear Scratt
I am not altering any file of EP yet, just installed and trying to upload 40K items but splitting is not giving me good results.
Last night, I did upload for a few items, it worked OK.
So, I guess problem is item quantity.
Splitting default quantity is 300 and I changed to 1000 but in vain.
Pls help.:oops:

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
ORIKO : EP only really works well with approx. 300 products at a time this is probably your problem, trying to upload too many products at once. Does it work OK with 300 products at once ?
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hello Scrat,
Thank you for the information. I just wasn't using the correct search terms for the thread.
Oriko, Scrat is right, EP works best with smaller number of products in the file. I split mine manually. Just be sure to keep the header (top line) into each file and keep the same format (text - tab delimited).
Thank you for being so helpful Scrat :D

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
SCRAT and OVERMYHEAD,
My solution is to upload txt file in temp dir and just insert to db.
I had to upload 5 - 6 big size files and fist 3-4 was OK, but last 2 i failed to get a success page. however, site is completely uploaded status, server was working perfect. biggest size is 6MB but anyway uploaded.
Thanks for your help.:clap:

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Beginner here.
Have uploaded my data to database and yeah it worked.
In the Wiki instructions it says you can only load one photo but then later on it talks about multiple photos.
So can it load multiple photos and what is the symbol to put between the photos when entering them into the .txt file.
TIA

Hi Mona,
Just upload the 1st and call it something like myphoto.jpg, then name the other images myphoto_1, myphoto_2, etc. You do not name them in the tab delimited text file as the software will associate them as additional images as long as the only name difference is after the "_" character.

Thank you Dennis....that is what I thought and what happen but just wanted to make sure that I was using EP correctly.

Illegal Characters
I've searched google and this thread for any possible solutions to my problem but haven't found anything. Everything is working fine with Easy Populate except when it comes to the product description field. I noticed several symbols and characters such as the degree symbol, single quote, and trademark symbol were all replaced with ?'s for example: It's becomes It?s. Ive read something about using escape characters but am not sure how to implement that.

try using the html code for them here is a site that has a conversion chart
http://www.tntluoma.com/sidebars/codes/
i noticed that also when i would use " they wouldn't show up so I'd have to use " .. if you have A LOT of products or suspect a lot of special characters I'd use a feature like "replace" in excel

Hey thanks a lot for the link. I think that using special characters is the way to go.. and doing a find and replace all in excel won't be too difficult! This really is a great mod. My distributor changes their prices every month (usually increases heh) and I was manually updating my prices to compensate for these increases. we're talking a lot of items. I actually made a spread sheet that auto adjusts for increases against my distributor's daily csv file so all I have to do is a copy and paste the values. If any one wants help creating a similar sheet just let me know!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I'm pretty new to using EP.
I had to create model numbers for all of my items, but I'm dealing with very few at the moment and was able to get a successful upload. However, all of the products are duplicated.
I wanted to replace the database, not add to it.
Can someone point me to a way to correct this? Thank you.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I solved the problem above by putting 9 in v_status for every item.
It deleted everything. Then I uploaded my original file of which I saved a copy.
Apparently it wipes out the image directory, so I'm going to have to gather those up and replace them.
But a bigger problem is that EP appears to treat copied/linked items as entirely separate products when uploading the file again. The result is that I'm getting 2 and 3 copies of each.
How can I prevent this from happening? Doesn't Easy Populate recognize items as merely being linked/copied?

Lost product type?
Another thing I noticed is that all of my music product types appear to be general product types now. The artist field is completely gone when viewing the product entries in admin.
Does Easy Populate always lose the product type or have I missed something important here?

I can't figure out how to get my items set back to music type products. Doing it manually means having to recreate about 225 items.
It also rules out being able to use EP for updates since it appears that it uploads all merchandise as general product type.
Very frustrating and disappointing.
Is there a way around this and to fix the damage I've done to my catalog?
Things were looking great before I used EP. Now I have duplicate entries, missing images, and altered product types.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
has anyone gotten the upload directory to work on VISTA + WAMP?
I added write permissions to \temp\ for the vista IUSR account
Easy Populate now says,
Uploads Directory c:\temp\
(thanks for the double \\ tip)
But I still get this error
Easy Populate uploads folder not found
Your uploads folder is either missing, has incorrect permissions, or does not correspond with the Easy Populate configuration. Please confirm that the Easy Populate Configuration contains the correct location of an existing folder. If you have provided a folder and the configuration is correct, it is likely that you have a permissions issue with the uploads folder and need to request that your web host assign write permissions to the uploads folder. This is usually granted through Windows server user account IUSR_COMPUTERNAME. Easy Populate cannot operate until you have provided an uploads folder with read/write/execute permissions for the site owner.

Restoring your database, or part of it, from backup is likely your best choice.
Did you do a database-backup before you started importing changes to your data?
Did you happen to test the EP tools on a test copy of your site before touching your live site?
Remember ... all addons are use-at-your-own-risk. They are typically built for one person's unique needs, and then shared for public consumption as models for other approaches people may want to take for their own unique needs.

I recall doing a backup not too long ago, but have no idea where to find it. I thought the file I downloaded from EP would be adequate (but was certainly wrong about that).
All I have is the live site, no test site.
After messing with the data some, I managed to mess things up much more (I even managed to mess up the categories :lamo:)
So today was throw my catalog in the trash and start over day... which doesn't make for an especially great day.

Your uploads folder is either missing, has incorrect permissions, .
EP is looking for a /temp folder in the root of your ZC site on your server, not on your local drive. This should be at the same level as admin, includes, cache, media, etc.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I'm a new Zen Cart user but not new to ecommerce packages.
I just installed Zen Cart and set up about 31 categories. When I look at the Category_Description table in MySQL, they're all there.
When I download the Category file using Easy Populate, I get a blank file with column headings. The column names are all different than what I see in MySQL - is this supposed to be this way? They are all 'v_categories_name_1' etc. but in MySQL it's 'category_name' etc.
Am I expecting the wrong thing? I was thinking that Easy Populate would download the 31 categories and associated subcategories in a list for me. I'm not getting any errors, the install went fine.
Please tell me how to successfully view my categories so I can get started with adding products...

products on site, but not in catalog
I hope somebody can help me out...
I started building a website and after the cosmetic adjustments (and adding language package, image handler and easypopulate and moving the site one folder up) I decided to delete all test-products and add a few new ones with easypopulate.
For some reason (don't know why) this has gone wrong: the products show on the site as they should, but they are not present in the admin - catalog so I cannot reach them for editting or anything else.
I can buy them to get rid of the products, but then the categories of course will stay.
My questions are the following:
what can I do to remove the categories? They are not present via admin - catalog - categories/products. Is there another way?
And does somebody have any idea what can be wrong? The txt file I used for uploading looks good...
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
kanjigirl,
There is no need to create your categories first. Just create the file with the products you have. Enter the categories for each one and EP will create the categories if they do not exist.
The multiple columns .._1, .._2, etc allow you to put products in subcategories. So you could have Mens (_1), Shirts (_2), Short Sleeve (_3), etc.
The big thing to watch for is mispelling category names. Be careful of creating something like "Men", "MEN" & "Mens". If you do you will have to move everything around and delete the incorrect cats. I could be wrong, but I don't think EP has a means to remove a category.

I think you are not really getting rid of them, you are just not showing items with no inventory.
Unless someone can suggest something else, you could emtpy the files through your sql admin. Use with caution. Make sure you are emptying the correct files.
I have used EP for thousands of products and have never seen a product not show up somewhere. While it should not matter, did you try to close/logoff the admin and then go back and check?

I don't have any experience with the SQL admin... (I just started up everything and I am learning through experience).
I found an entry called categories-name and deleted the name. No idea if I did the corect thing... but: the categories are gone in the zen-cart. unfortunately, I still have the
-> (3)
but now without a category preceeding. Any idea how to get rid of this?
I don't quite trust the database anymore... is there a way to clear it entirely to make a fresh start?
Sorry for the many questions but I don't know what do do anymore. I can reinstall everything again (the shop is not live yet) but, apart from a lot of work, as long as I don't know what caused it. it may happen again on the new install...

yes, I did....
The only thing I can think of, is that there was a language problem. I can switch between english and dutch (native) language in the admin, and there is one column in the txt file for which the entries are different for the two languages (v_tax_class_title: --none-- versus --geen--).
If I download a txt file, the language of the admin of that moment makes a difference.
I will test this in near future (it is already late at this part of the globe),

Re: products on site, but not in catalog
fsas,
As I am new to sql myself, I can not offer much help in the control panel. I just look at each file that pertains to products or categories and hit the browse button. Empty the file if it contains the info I'm looking for. You need to check carefully. Categories is made up of 2 files, same with products. Once again - double check everything.
Language settings might be a problem. You might want to search this thread. I think I read somewhere that EP has problems when language is set to non-english.
As far as a new install, I have done this MANY times while learning ZC. It isn't that complex and only takes a few minutes.
Hope this helps.

I found some stuff concerning this... I might have to go so far as to only choose the english language and settings (no dutch) and make the necessary translations myself.
Thanks for the tip!

There was a threshold for me there because I am very new in the field and was glad it worked in the first place... but it would be a good learning traject to install it more than once.
but first I need to convince EP that I want to have the "product quantity max" set to 1. Default (in ZEN) it is zet to 0 but I only have unique products in the sense that there is only 1 of each. This feature is not exported from existing products by EP so I don't know what to change. Sorry for asking so much, but do you know by any change how I can achieve this? Without this entry (product qty max = 1), using EP does not help me since after adding the products with EP I still have to edit all products afterwards to change this from 0 to 1 in ZEN)

Re: products on site, but not in catalog
Anjo,
To set every product qty look at http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103496 You will need to find the actual field name in the sql admin, then see the first reply with the solution for you. You just need to modify it to the field you need to change.

thanks! I think that will do it (haven't tried yet: just got up this morning). I even found the field (at least I think so):
products_quantity_order_max
Just wat I was searching for!
(And I reinstalled the whole thing, as you suggested. )

Re: Date Added when only Update - V1.2.5.4
I've been using EP very happily. A great product.
However, I'm having a problem dealing with Date Added.
My uploading task is a daily or weekly job when inventory changes or when new products are added.
A small problem makes me not able to use one of the Zen Cart's default functions - New Products.
When I upload updated data using EP, when a product already exists, it clearly shows the result as 'Updated', but the Date Added gets reset to uploaded time.
So the product that had been in my catalog for a long time also becomes a new; hence, New Products function shows all my old and new items.
Has anyone got a way to resolve this issue? Any workarounds??

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Steve,
Do you have the v_date_added column in your upload file? If yes, you need to have the original date in there. If no, you need to add it and put the original date there.
In EP around line 1955 is this code that will default an null/empty date to "today"
PHP Code:
$v_date_added = zen_not_null($v_date_added) ? $v_date_added : CURRENT_TIMESTAMP; // if updating, but date added is null, we use today's date

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
As a relative newcomer to ZC/php/sql, but with many years of programming in other environments, I can only tell you the kinda brute force method I use.
I don't know enough sql to know if all backups look like mine, but this works for me. This is all done on your host outside of ZC.
1. Make a complete backup of your sql database when you have it in a known good state. Your host should provide a utility to do this. On my host, it creates a .sql file that when used to restore will delete the existing tables and replace it with the ones from the backup.
2. If you want the restore to not include something in the backup, like products or categories, remove the "insert" lines in a copy of this file.
3. Restore the backup.
Good luck,
Jeff

Hi Jeff
I managed to make a backup of both my database and all the files of the site; that is not the problem...
But part of the previous zen setup of my site were the settings in the admin, e.g. admin - configuration - layout settings etc. I reinstalled the whole thing, but ended up with all default settings... is there some file in the zen-package (I still have all teh files of the old installation) where these settings are stored? Or do I have to change these values manually again?
thanks for all your trouble helping me!

Hi Jeff
It suddenly occurs to me :oops: ...the info I am looking for is not in one of the files, but in the database! I wrongly assumed different and therefor I thougth your anser wasn't going to solve things for me. But it did (that is: in future...) and I think I
do onderstand it now. However: I didn't make a backup of the old database because it was corrupt. That's why I reinstalled the whole thing...
So I will have to do it manuall and I will remeber to backup things as soon as I am done (while the database is still in order...)
thanks for your help and patience!

Thank you Jeff for your prompt reply.
The fact that it defaults to today is the problem I was having.
Can it be left null (so that Zen Cart's DB keeps whatever existing date added data) and not update as the items are updated?
I could've tried modifying the code before asking you, but would like to find out little further what would Zen Cart + EP's behavior like.
Thank you,
Steve.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
You would have to find the code in the update section, probably around the area from above, and change it to not update if null.
Not sure of exact code (or location) or I would quote it.
I typically leave it open in an editor, change what I think it should be, upload, test, repeat. And repeat. And repeat. And repeat. :D until I get it right.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I have EZP 1.2.5.4/ZC 1.3.8a installed on Godaddy shared hosting. When it works, it works great! My problem is, it only works 10% of the time!
I only have about 6000 items in the database. I have been working on this for days and am getting nowhere. I currently have PHP.ini timeouts set at 300. Admin->My Store->Max Execution time = 300. Split count set to 100. These are all set well within range of EZP. But no matter what they are set to, the problem is still the same. Here is the problem:
I click "Split File" to upload my 1.73mb file over a 6MB connection. It sits for about 2 minutes before returning:
"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
So I tried uploading the split files myself via FTP and processed them them manually. I get the same result. Sometimes it imports, most the time it says "cannot display page".
I have tried every setting I can think of. Tried Firefox. Tried different computers. Still it is completely random. Last night it worked 80% of the time... Today I tried again and have not been able to get it working even once all day!
What is going on here? Any suggestions PLEASE! I have a client waiting on this site but I have to get EZP working before I can deliver it.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
OK so I did a little reading on this thread (sorry I was searching easypopulate instead of easy populate so I missed the previous explanations of this problem) but I am still concerned.
I read that EZP does not show the success report screen if there are over X number of products. But it DOES still work I have read. Here are my questions now:
Approximately what is X?
Does X stand for number of products CURRENTLY on site or number contained inside the uploaded spreadsheet? Because I never had this problem during initial population. Its only been happening now that I am trying to update/add more products.
EZP will not return a success screen even when uploading using the "Split File" function?
When importing the split files one at a time will I still not get a success screen even tho the files only have 100 products each?
This is all going to be automated so the success screen is not required but I need to make SURE it works 100% of the time anyway. From what I read it will. Is this correct? TIA!!

It works fine. Ideally, you need to add the site name to the product description (see multisite mod info) in your upload file. If not you would need to edit every item in ZC.

So I've installed Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 and it seems to be functioning correctly, I think I just don't understand how to use it... :frusty:

Fine.

How am I supposed to edit or whatever the hell the files so that I can import items into my zen cart? When I add items, I get this:

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Tim,
EP requires a model number to work. There MUST be a column with a UNIQUE model number for each item. Column heading must be v_products_model.
You need to be careful. If you have the same model number on more than one line it will overwrite info from the prior one.
If you do not have model numbers, simply create a sequential number in Excel for that column. When updating or adding, be carefull to always use the same number for the same product and do not reuse numbers or you will end up with duplicate or missing product.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi everyone!
Until a few days ago easy populate was working completely fine on my site. But I've had to do something a bit complicated I guess....
My supplier gives me data feeds for stock levels which are I guess for osCommerce, not Zen cart. So whenever I download a new one I have to change it to make it compatible with easy populate.
This feed contains the model number, product name and stock level.
The supplier sells around 3000 products and I only sell 2500 of those, so what I thought of was, I'll add a category field to the stock feed with a new category for all the products. Then after updating the database I delete the new category and am left with updated data for the products I wish to sell.
Now I noticed that I was having problems with: Descriptions and manufacturer data. All of which either copied previous item's data or were made completely blank.
Luckily I had a back up so I fixed the problem but I have no idea how to update my stock levels without messing everything else up!
As far as I can tell the problem is caused by: My supplier's feed does not contain descriptions or manufacturers. And even if it did I would much rather rewrite them and use my own so I do not want to update them with my supplier's data!
Because my supplier has more products in the feed than what I actually resell, I cannot just add the stock levels column into my own easy populate file and assume it matches.
Is there anyone else out there in a similar situation?

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
After all the posts and threads I've read, I just can't figure it out!
Easy Populate works great as far as quick up loading of products, prices and the like.
Here's the deal! I do custom product descriptions ( to long for product description section in Easy Populate). I use a basic description on the description area of EP upload it and then add on to the description after it is uploaded.
Every time I upload new prices in a category, all the custom descriptions disappear.
I have tried removing the description section on the .txt sheet, uploaded and it still removes what description I have already there.
How to you save and leave descriptions not editable so when you upload massive price changes the descriptions stay in tack.
Can an editable table be add to the products_infomation_display.php and if so, how would you access it to load product descriptions?
Figuring this out will save all store operators a great deal of time and money.
What does anybody think or know?

Can someone let me know if I can add shipping prices in a spreadsheet that will work with easypop? Basically my suppiler gives me a spreadsheet with shipping prices for each product, so I would like to have a shipping price per unit and I would like to do it in a spreadsheet, I have oever 2000 products.
Thanks:

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
evil_grrrl666,
I would suggest you initially make an Excel file with the items that you do not sell. Then each time you receive a new file you could use the Excel function to remove the items from the new file that exist in the 'not wanted' file. Sorry, but that I don't know how to do, but I know it can be done.
I am pretty sure manufacturer is not required in EP so having it blank should not cause a problem. You might have to test that. Alternatively you could just add one in Excel.
As to descriptions, I'd suggest an approach similar to above. Using a current file from the vendor, add the description column and your descriptions. (You can format the text using standard HTML tags.) Save as a template for later use. When a new file is received from the vendor, Excel has a function/feature that will allow you to fill a column with data from another sheet if a certain column (model in this case) matches. Once again, I know Excel can do it, but I don't know the steps.

I've used some pretty long description in EP with no problems. How long are your descriptions? Also, are you aware you can format your descriptions in excel by adding html tags?

If you cannot fit you descriptions in Excel, you need to change easypopulate.php.
Duh, I just realized this will probably time out before I get the code. I will post the code in a few minutes.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Find this around line 2060. Its actually on several lines.
PHP Code:
"UPDATE ".TABLE_PRODUCTS_DESCRIPTION." SET products_name='" . zen_db_input($name) . "', products_description='" . zen_db_input $v_products_description[$key]) . "',";
I don't know the exact syntax, but add a wrapper something like this:
PHP Code:
if ($v_products_description[$key] > '') {
(existing code)
}
I'm not sure of the exact way to code this in php, but this is what you need.
Disclaimer: always backup before testing. I believe this is the correct section but cannot be sure without actually trying it. I've done several things like this, so it's an educated guess we're in the right place.

That's probably going to be a tough one. I don't think ZC has a place to store shipping cost per product, therefore EP has no place to put the data.
My first though was to make shipping an option, set it required and it would be added. But your problem there is sales tax would be added to shipping, which is not done in many (most?) jurisdictions.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I am not sure exactly what you mean.
This is a sample of the short description that I upload with easy populate
Acetyl L-Carnitine is also known by other names such as Alcar, Acetyl Carnitine, N-Acetyl L-Carnitine, Acetyl L-Carnitine
This is a sample of what I add to the product description
(part of this is table that doesn't show here because of text only)
Acetyl L-Carnitine 500mg 120 Vcaps
SUPPLEMENT FACTS
Serving Size: 1 Vcap
Servings Per Container: 120
Amount Per Serving
% Daily Value
Acetyl L-Carnitine (Kosher Certified)
500 mg
*
*Daily value not established.
Other Ingredients: Rice Flour, Cellulose, Magnesium Stearate (Vegetable Source), Silic
Storage: Keep this product in a cool dry place.
Contains No Added: Free of Sugar, Starch and Sodium. No Artificial Colors or Preservatives.
Suggested Use: As a dietary supplement take 1 to 2 capsules once or twice daily with a glass of water and food or as directed by a health care professional. Take consistently each day for best results.
Warning: Do not use if tamper resistant seal is missing or broken. Seek the advice of a health care professional before using. Consult your physician prior to use if you are pregnant or nursing.
I have manage to add a table to the product_display_information.php but I am not a coder so after I put in the table, I still don't have any idea how to add content to it or how to make it useful for 800 different products.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Johnny,
It looks like I had some wrong or incorrect information. I tried to paste a table into an Excel cell with no success. There might be a way to do it, but I could not figure it out.
I tried creating a table in an HTML editor, copying and pasting into a cell. Something caused it to go into multiple cells.
You can put multi-line descriptions in using <br> tags for line feeds. You could have something like:
HTML Code:
Acetyl L-Carnitine 500mg 120 Vcaps<br>SUPPLEMENT FACTS<br>Serving Size: 1 Vcap<br>Servings Per Container: 120
The <br> acts as a line feed in web pages.
That's about all I can offer for now.
Hopefully someone else can add to this.

All my images are from a third party web site and I need then when i download my spreadsheet, for the images to show my images on my webapge. Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Jeff,
Thanks for working with me.
Please understand, I can add all of the lengthy description via category/ product page in Zen Cart.
The problem is when I upload new price adjustments via Easy Populate, all the description I have built reverts back to the short one I started with.
You can view the page at
http://www.greasedlightning.info/mot...cap-p-1167.htm
All I need to figure out is how to save all the lengthy description or insert a new (accessible and editable) text box or table.
You will notice in the web page, that I have manage to add a table but not being a coder I don't know how to make it editable.
Please get back to me!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Johnny,
The first thing I see is it appears that you used MS Word to create your table. Word adds way too much html code. Hence the junk in your desc.
Find a simple html editor. I use CoffeeCup. I think there is a trial version, but it's pretty cheap to buy. There are probably a few decent free ones. When you paste the code in description, make sure you are not in html editor mode in ZC.
I think your pasted link did not work because you are using the url add-on.
To prevent override of exiting descriptions will require code change. Looking at my prior suggestion, I realize it's even easier than that.
Find the UPDATE statement code around line 2260. Remove the section "products_description='" . zen_db_input $v_products_description".
Look very carefully at the code and remove everything about the description but not the needed delimiters for the rest of the statement.
This change will prevent ANY updates to description but will not affect the INSERT on new items.
I'm sorry but I don't have time now or I'd give you the complete change. If you can't get it, post back and I'll be glad to figure it out later.

What am I doing wrong or what am I missing?

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Unless you've made other changes to EP, I would suggest starting over with a new version of easypopulate.php.
Starting at line 2052 you should have this code:
PHP Code:
// already in the description, let's just update it
$sql =
"UPDATE ".TABLE_PRODUCTS_DESCRIPTION." SET
products_name='" . zen_db_input($name) . "',
products_description='" . zen_db_input($v_products_description[$key]) . "',
";
if ($ep_supported_mods['psd'] == true) {
$sql .= "
products_short_desc='" . zen_db_input($v_products_short_desc[$key]) . "',
";
}
$sql .= "
products_url='" . zen_db_input($v_products_url[$key]) . "'
WHERE
products_id = '$v_products_id' AND
language_id = '$key'";
Put a // in front of each of these lines. That's it!
This section of code normally would update the description file IF the description exists. This change means the description would never change through EP.
New items are added with an INSERT several lines above, so that does not change.
As always, check carefully and TEST, TEST, TEST. I did not actually try this, but the code says it all and I see no reason why it should not work.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
credenscel,
Are you using EP free or Advanced? I don't see any code that looks like that in the free version.
If using advanced, you would need support from the sellers website. The versions are significantly different.
However, reading your post again, it sounds like your problem is not with EP.
What exact sequence of clicks get you to this message?
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
credenscel,
I think your problem in that statement is between "p.browse_by_make p.products_price_sorter" these 2 fields. I am far from a php expert, but it looks like there should be a comma after "make".
I don't see 'browse_by_make' in the product table structure. Do you have a mod that added new fields?
Jeff
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Thanks for the reply
i'm using the free version
the browse by make is a sidebox
you can see it here:
http://protunerparts.com/zen/
I am getting the error when i go to "categories/products" and then click on the products that i've uploaded using EP (all other products that are uploaded manually work fine).
When i click on the Edit icon to edit the product i get that error :cry:
your input is much appreciated
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Jeff,
We are on the right track now!
I changed the code to the following.
// already in the description, let's just update it
$sql =
"UPDATE ".TABLE_PRODUCTS_DESCRIPTION." SET
//products_name='" . zen_db_input($name) . "',
//products_description='" . zen_db_input($v_products_description[$key]) . "',
";
if ($ep_supported_mods['psd'] == true) {
$sql .= "
//products_short_desc='" . zen_db_input($v_products_short_desc[$key]) . "',
";
}
$sql .= "
//products_url='" . zen_db_input($v_products_url[$key]) . "'
WHERE
//products_id = '$v_products_id' AND
//language_id = '$key'";
But after the EP Upload Easy populate gave this error message
Warning An SQL error has occured. Please check your input data for tabs within fields and delete these. If this error continues, please forward your error log to the Easy Populate maintainer
Did I put one to many // in the code some where?
If I leave it, what will be the overall effect on the Zen Cart I have going?

I think you didn't put enough in. Every one of those lines needs to be removed (commented out). That section of code is only used to update the description and is not wanted for what you are doing.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
credenscel,
It looks like a typo in the code somewhere. I suggest using the Developers Tool Kit in Admin/Tools search for "p.browse_by_make p.products_price_sorter" in "all files-Admin"
If not found, it might be on 2 lines, in which case you would need to search for "p.browse_by_make" and look at each program where it's found until you find one missing the comma.
If you find it, add a comma and try the same steps.
Also, if it's only happening on EP loaded products, there is probably some field that the mod needs that EP is not populating.

Although I am still not sure how that error happened because "browse by make" is a sidebox which i edited via "banner manger" and did not touch the PHP files. Either way... THANK YOU!! :clap:

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
well i'm back with more questions :mellow:
after geting the EP work i realized that it's setting all my product types as General Product. The products that i'm adding are done using Music Product. Is there a way to have EP upload things as a Music Product?

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Jeff,
It's me again!
I did the update as instructed. It didn't override the description again.
// already in the description, let's just update it
//$sql =
//"UPDATE ".TABLE_PRODUCTS_DESCRIPTION." SET
//products_name='" . zen_db_input($name) . "',
//products_description='" . zen_db_input($v_products_description[$key]) . "',
";
//if ($ep_supported_mods['psd'] == true) {
//$sql .= "
//products_short_desc='" . zen_db_input($v_products_short_desc[$key]) . "',
";
}
//$sql .= "
//products_url='" . zen_db_input($v_products_url[$key]) . "'
//WHERE
//products_id = '$v_products_id' AND
//language_id = '$key'";
But this error message still appears.
Warning An SQL error has occured. Please check your input data for tabs within fields and delete these. If this error continues, please forward your error log to the Easy Populate maintainer
Will this cause problem later?
Again thanks for all the help!
Johnny

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Jeff,
Thanks for the help. It worked like a charm!
Sorry about dragging it out, I am not an experienced programmer like yourself, so this has been a learning process.
Thanks again,

EP has no option for anything other than general type = 1
You have at least 3 choices here.
1. Add a products_type column in your file and mod EP to update or insert the new column as required.
2. If ALL your products are music you could use the Tools/Install SQL patches and enter
PHP Code:
UPDATE products SET products_type = 2;
after each EP upload.
3. I noticed that products_type has a default of 1. Using myPHP admin, change the default for products_type to 2.
As always, TEST TEST TEST!!!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Another thing to watch for...
Does music need data that is not in general? If so you will need option 1 above for that info.

Thanks for all the help as usual guys... Over the years, I don't think a single post I have ever made to the zen-cart forums has ever got a single response. :frusty:

I'm sure many people here haved shared your frustration at some time. I would think most users make posts that are never replied to. I know I have!
Unfortunately the author of this mod seems to have abandoned it.
In my experience, if someone posts a complex problem there are very few that will know the answer, and hence few/no replies.
I'm sure you noticed this thread has been busy lately, but not with info you need. The other posts have been about things that myself and others have seen and know the solution.
Also, it appears that the team does respond to all questions about the core software of which EP is not part.
My only suggestion would be try the classifed section for an experienced coder that could work with you.
Not to be rude, but remember that this is open source software supported for FREE by the community of volunteers and other users.

So after my last post, I'm using EP for a client site (hosted on GoDaddy) and guess what? Of course it appears to not complete and displays the message you received.
Now seeing the problem first hand and having data to analyze, this is what I did & what I found:
In my case I was deleting 267 products by using the status column = 9.
I took a sample of the first few items in the file, a few in the mid and a few from the end. I did a search of my site and found none of the products still there.
A logical conclusion is the loop did complete.
As the reason for the apparent timeout could be overly complex, and beyond my ability to find the cause. I just accept that the update worked. I of course will try to find the cause when I have time, but it's not a big priority.
Maybe not the best answer, but it's what works for me.
If I was not willing to deal with a free forum based support system, I would have purchased a product with paid support. This was a big, important decision and a lengthy conversation was had with the client prior to going open source. The pros & cons of open source have to be weighed against your needs and capabilities.

long filenames not possible in EP?
I am using EP to upload my products, but I noticed that I cannot upload long filenames. The names are cutted off if they exceed the 64 chars (I think so) and as a consequence of course the images won't show.
Is there any way I can change this ?

It's not an EP issue.
You need to go into phpmyadmin (or something similar on your server) and modify the structure of the products table. The field products_image is currently set to only allow 64 characters.
The actual procedure varies by host.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Wondering if anyone wants to help me with trying to get links to work for pictures in easy pop? I am going to try to attempt this by myself since I can not find any information on this anywhere. I guess my first attempt tonight will be to mess with the easypopulate.php and see where I get from there. If nayone has any suggestions , please feel free to let me know, so I can mess around with them. Thanks...:bigups:

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
jgg,
The easiest way may be to just add the link to your description. I always do html by copying working code, but basically somewhere in your description you could add
<a href= ???> <img src=???> and whatever else is needed.
This totally eliminates to need to mod any code.
Of course this will only work on the product detail/info page. No suggestions for listing pages.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi I'm getting a message :
File Import Failed! Primary index column v_products_id or c_categories_index_path missing from uploads file. Please consult the readme.html file for more information
Both fields are filled in on the template.txt file , any ideas , I've searched the forum with very few answers.
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
golden,
The phrase "primary index" does not appear to be in any standard code or EP code. Are you using EP advanced? That has a different code base and support is through the authors site as most users here are using the free version.

thanks! I found it (I think).
I can change the length of this entry in the database. Is there some danger involved or can I simply do so?
And thanks for helping me (and others) out so much!

Re: long filenames not possible in EP?
I believe you can just change it. I read some other post to do the same thing.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Greetings, well I am trying to delete some stuff that I uploaded to my catalog. I deleted the products, admin, catalog, Categories/Products... When I go to the Site itself, the category is gone, but the products are sttil there?
Can anyone help me with getting rid of all the products I don't want there.. I tried deleting the database via the control panel, but that erased my site before..
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Jeff! I really appreciate you giving all the feedback that you do give as i know it takes time but your input is really great so thank you!
I dont really know much about coding unfortunately :-( and yes, all my products are music products, how would i tweak EP to include feilds for record company and music genre?
i also "i think" set the product type to equal 2 but it didnt work i think i did something wrong :-( is this what i was supposed to do?

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
You got it wrong. Change that back.
products_type is a field in zen_products table
