database error Trying to change Hosts - MAJOR problems!

    Hi

I am really hoping someone may be able to offers some advice quickly for me please ....

I had a Data Base error a couple of weeks ago and I have searched a lot through the forum to discover that it is a problem others also get.

    Sorry!
There seems to be a problem connecting to our database. Please give us a few minutes to remedy the problem.

I am currently with GoDaddy and have discovered that they are frowned upon as a poor host. My problem did rectify itself (not sure how or why??) within a few hours, but since that time I have had DREADFUL problems as far as loading the site ... it keeps timing out! This is shocking for business, so it is of major concern.

I am in the process of now trying to change hosts .... this has created another set of issues, unfortunately.

I had a host lined up to change us across, but they encountered difficulties and cannot make the transfer, which places things in an even more dire situation! Here is what they said to me:

"To my great dissatisfaction we have been unable to relocate your
website unfortunately. Over 16 hours of time was invested in an
attempt to complete the job for you including relocation of the site
and the set-up of the server and provisioning of the control panel.

However we cant make your website work with our servers. Your website
has some very unusual server requirements and it also requires
outdated versions of server software such as PHP4 and MySQL4 when we
run PHP5 and MySQL5. We attempted to load old versions of this server
software to get the website working but still ran into problems with
    special modules required within PHP4."

Is anybody able to offer me some assistance please - AS A MATTER OF URGENCY?? I am obviously happy to pay for this help.

    Thanks heaps in advance.

Is this the version of Zen-Cart you are using???

    Using Zen Cart 1.3.0.1
    v1.3.0.1 [2006-05-24 07:32:02] (Fresh Installation)

Also I noticed you are using the classic template?????

    1. Using the override system means you don't have to worry about over-writing your custom files when an upgrade comes along, because they are all in custom directories you will create below.
    2. Click on the link below, notice the tutorial/faqs on the top right hand side
    3. http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/
    4. Notice the blue header bar, click Index
    5. Scroll down to override system, click
    6. click on the override system really simplified,

    https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=143
    7. you will need to use a ftp program and create these folders
    8. now read this article
    9. https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=142
    10. after you finish that little step, read the article below
    11. https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=230
    12. So, now when you want to edit a .php file, first upload the file to your custom folder and then

    edit the puppy..

Yes, it is. I attempted an upgrade some time ago and almost blew the thing out of the water, so I have steered away since that time. I see you have offered advice on upgrading, so I will check your links thanks.

I used the Classic template, but overwrote it with other files. At the time I did all that, it was suggested to me that I do it that way ... and I have never altered it since as I don't wish to lose what I had on the site.

I am quite happy to do so Merlin ... but I am at a loss as to exactly how to do this?

Can this be done for me, per chance --- for payment?
