Download issue after upgrade HELP

my site is www.beadedpatterns.com

When someone purchases a download, then comes back to the site to download it, when they click on the download button, it closes IE.

These are all simple pdf files with the largest being 3mg.

This is only happening to some of the customers, not all.
Some using IE get it just fine and others don't.

I moved to a new host, then upgraded to the newest Zen v1.3.9h.
I added SSL to the site, and password protected my downloads file.
Something in all of these changes has caused this to happen.
But because of all the changes, I don't know where to look.

Any Help would be great.

I was just informed by one of the customers that had IE close on them durring download.
That when they went to my Free Patterns page:

That it would allow them to download a few patterns and then would close on them again.

Any guesses as to what is causing this?

Can you reproduce this?

Try and see if there are any error messages ot not

It works just fine when I do it.
It works just fine for about half of my customers.
But it is getting really old, having to email people their downloads.
Could it be something with my server?
Because the free patterns page doesn't go through the shopping cart.

Poll them as to if they are on a broadband connection or dial up?

Dial up will probably time out - - if that is the issue
But as you can not replicate it you might never know for certain

Unless you are on a decated server this is by your host
But the time required for even a modest sized file at dial up speed will be way more than they will allow in a shared account

Is there someway to make pdf downloads open in a new window or pop-up for download?
I know how to make it open in a new window in html, but not sure how or where to change that in php.

I have emailed my host about timing out, and will see what they say.
I have an email from them when I got my SSL that the installation of a dedicated IP address was add to be able to have the SSL.

Simply make the change in your /pub/.htaccess file:
