Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

Hello,

This looks to be a long awaited update to Langers version, thank you very much.

I have one issue, when I download/save the csv file and open it in Excel some of the rows in the v_products_model column shows a date such as DEC-72 instead of the item number. When I go into admin to check the item....the item shows as the correct item number (12-6072).

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Tom

Re: Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

This mod works great on a clean SC(latest) install.
It seems to work OK on a copy of my live site, as
the categories are created, seemingly containing my 4 test products.

Once I reach the actual folder though, the files are nowhere to be found.

Any ideas why? I realize I've probably screwed up something
but I just dont know why and the searches I do give me nothing.

What "folder" and what "files" - - - files of what?

Re: Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

I haven't had a chance to check the forum lately, sorry about that.

vagabondette:
I guess you got it working by now. The fgetcsv function should work fine on PHP4, or so I thought. Perhaps it was just the way the csv was deliminated. Hope all is good now. BTW, I was able to import the test file you sent with no problems.

I used to use a program called ASAP Utilities Excel add-on to get the correctly deliminated csv. It has an export csv that allows you to control the settings. Though I just checked and I can't find it, I guess my copy expired, heh. It turned out I didn't need it anyway. But maybe that will help someone.

pokerdis:
Excel has a nasty habbit of making assumptions on what type of data something it by how it's formatted. Your item numbers look somewhat like a date, so Excel 'guesses' and converts it to your system default I think.

Usually it only does that for the normal date fields. Because of that I made sure EPcsv would auto convert any formatted date into the correct type by use of the strtotime() function. Great function.

There is probably a setting somewhere in excel to tell it to stop doing that. If someone knows, please do tell. It's damn annoying.

SHK:
Since I had to package EPcsv as a complete program for it to be put into the addon downloads, I did modify a number of the other files here and there, nothing big. Only the first couple versions that I had posted in the 1.2.5.4 thread could you only copy the main file. Now it's preferable to copy all the files over the old ones. That could be the cause of the problem.

I changed the default folder from "temp" which was WAY to generic, to tempEP, and that could be a cause of your problem. I don't know what effect not copying all the files would cause with the latest version in the add-on section.

The latest version also lists all the files in the temp directory right in the EP page with nice buttons next to them to import. If you click on the file name itself, it should download.

OK, I hope this hasn't been asked yet (I did read this entire thread and didn't see it). If I have a bunch of new items to add, but they belong in categories that do not exist yet, will EPcsv create those categories if I have all the info in the spreadsheet?

I had previously installed **easy_populate_free__from_langer__modhole_v1-2-5-5 **some time ago.
I made sure that all the files were deleted, and that the database entries were removed with ?langer=remove.

Then I installed your version as per your install.txt, all seems fine.
Importing from my test cvs seems to have gone smoothly as well.

Upload Results
Filename: blahlah.csv
NEW PRODUCT! - Model: 664657 | /blah/blah | blah | blablahbla | | | | | 745 | 1 | | 09-01-21 1 | 20000 | blah | test | test2 | test3 | test4 | | | | --none-- | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | | |
Upload Complete

(The above text obviously obscured intentionally)

Anyhow, in all ways but one it seems like the products imported just fine.
The only problem is that they are nowhere to be found once
I actually enter the folder where they're suposed to be.

Again, it all works fine on a clean install so it's obviously something I've messed up myself.
Could it have something to do with me using a language besides English?
Are there any common mods that wont play along with EP?

Also, in the hopes that I've got your attention phazei,
a small question about a possibly adding a feature.

Would it be terribly complex to add a selection of product type?
It would be such a timesaver to have an extra column where I could type in,
say 4 and have those products be Document - Product instead of Product - General.
I have no idea if this is a huge load of work, so please forgive me for asking if it is.

Anyhow, thanks for the cvs mod. I've finally been inspired to
start using EP, and will in a short while have a whole new shop
ready for my customers. If you ever do make an EP for Zen 2.0
when we all get around to that upgrade, I will surely show my appreciation.
(dont forget the paypal button though)

I should always trust my intuition and try before I ask.
The tables for Énglish were filled. I just need to fill the
tables for my own language as well.

Anyhow, the question about an option for product_type still stand.

Thanks again

I guess I should also ask if it's an easy thing to implement a selection
for what languauge ID one wants to use, or if I should simply change
my default to ID #1 and be done with it?

supergper:
Yes, if the category doesn't exist it will create it.
Now if a category has subcategories, it can't also have direct products. So I have no idea what would happen if you accidentally add a product to a category like that.

SHK:
It should work with different languages.
ex: column: v_product_name_1
The "1" is the language. When you export if you have other languages their language id number should replace the 1, ex "v_product_name_3".
I haven't tested that, but I haven't done anything to change it, so if it doesn't work, it didn't work before I messed with it.

There are a couple sections that automatically assume 1 though, like the froogle and some customer group price module that I think is some old thing left over from OSc.

Oh, and for product type, that is stored in a different db I believe so wouldn't be a simple addition. If I'm mistaken I'll see what I can do.

URLs are not showing up for my products in the .csv file...how do I fix that? I don't see a way to configure it from the admin to add or not add them. I appreciate the input!

That worked great.

No concern of mine afaik.

Ok. So either its a feature request for an possible future 2.0-version,
or it's an simple addition. Thanks either way.

I'll see if I can accomplish the same thing by manually
editing the tables, since it's a terribly useful way of differentiating
between different shipping options properly without having
data for both weight and dimension and some complex calculation
for what any selection of products might entail in shipping cost.

My raw xls files do not contain any info whatsoever on weight
and certainly not dimensions, and manually entering tens of thousands
of products, measured, is no option. Any form of universal
shipping cost is also out of the question.

Oh well, your mod of EP has saved me so much work that I
better just be quiet and enjoy what I have already.

Again thanks

Re: Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

Hi I hope I am doing this in the right place. I was having trouble with EZ Populate 1.2.5.4 (hence the double post) and since I am running php5 i decided to upgrade to the EZ POP CSV version you have.

The problem still remains though that when I go to upload or download, or ?langer=install or remove I still wind up at the admin login screen.

It very wierd, and I am not sure how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, there are 3 EZ pop menus under config... I can't seem to get rid of them.

Have to have PHP 5 I guess. Other people also had same issue because of that.

fgetcsv should work on PHP4, but it doesn't seem to be working as well.

Glamorousshoe:

I am not sure about copyrights either.
To add the msrp for the easypopulate all I did was edit the easypopulate_export.php code listed below. Please note I only included the codes for the store and ex-store template due to the length of the code.
The msrp tables where located inside the product_table so that was easy to do. My mod created 3 tables in the database which are called maker_name, model_name and maker_model. They are located in the database just like the product_table or any other database table. Do you think you can figure out something from the code if not I will be happy to email you the EP files.

Go ahead and send me the files, PM me for my email address and I will see about getting it working.
