Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

schoolboy, yes my thoughts too. neither of our files seems to be working.

I think i'm leaning towards an error with the easy populate installation? Maybe it needs to be uninstalled then re-installed.

Re: Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

Hi Jackie & Jaybird

I've done a few "tweaks" to the earlier easypopulate.zip file

Try this one, but first (Jackie) take a look at line 1966, which reads:

'", products_sort_order="'.zen_db_input($v_products_sort_order) .

Looking at other lines around it, could the double quotes be an issue? Could this affect the parsing?

My gut feel is to leave the double quotes...

yeah, they should be there. It follows the pattern of the other lines too.

I'd say if this file doesn't work, a fresh EP install is in order.

OK Jaybird... try the zip in my post above Jackie's... follow the same "backup" of your original file as described much earlier in this thread.

I have just re-arranged the order (relative position) of the sort order line... It may work now...

Re: Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

Thanks schoolboy, but I tried your revised .php file and got the same results:
MySQL error 1136: Column count doesn't match value count at row 1
When executing:
INSERT INTO zen_products (
products_image,
products_model,
products_price,
products_status,
products_last_modified,
products_date_added,
products_date_available,
products_tax_class_id,
products_weight,
products_quantity,
master_categories_id,
manufacturers_id)
VALUES (
'products/LiftLidComboATA4C.jpg','12345',
'2009',
'1',
CURRENT_TIMESTAMP,
"2009-11-03 23:35",
NULL,
'',
'27',
'19.73',
'8',
'11',
'NULL')

With the latest schoolboy .php file, I save it as an Excel file, and I can make various changes to every column (except the v_products_column A), convert it to a .txt file, and it will update correctly, However, adding an additional line produces the above error.

The only thing that works for me is to install the original .php file, enter my products in the Excel file, convert it to a .txt file and upload. Then I re-install the first schoolboy .php file, download a complete tab-delimited .txt file to edit (which now contains the v_products_sort_order column), enter the sort figures and upload this to ZenCart. This works.

No idea what the problem is, maybe just something dumb with my version of Excel (2002) ?
But I want to thank schoolboy & Jackie for your efforts to find a solution.

If you look at the error message, you are trying to insert more values(13) into fewer(12) matching columns. You need to look at the data. It looks to me that NULL at the end of the values is the culprit, because I am betting that the manufacturers_id is 11 and not NULL. Is this correct? So where is the NULL coming from? Are you ending each row of data with EOREOR? It could be the spreadsheet program, I don't know since I use Open Office and have never tried Excel. But that is what is going on and it's just a matter of figuring out where the extra value is coming from.

I am not sure why you would have to convert a file to .txt? You save it as a csv with a .txt extension, so for example it would be test.txt which is a csv file - it doesn't have to have a .csv extension.

lankeeyankee has a good point.

Jaybird, when you say "add a line", what is it exactly that you're doing? Do you insert a new row, or copy and paste a row? Or is it a new column? Are you filling in all the data for this new line before you upload?

Yes, by "add a line" I meant an additional row of data.

Detailed procedure: After installing the easypopulate.php file (the original, schoolboy's, the one you uploaded, and the last schoolboy file) I download the tab-delimited .txt file to edit, save it as an Excel file. It contains the various columns according to whichever easypopulate.php file was installed. Then I copy a preexisting row to a new row changing the left cel (Column A, v_products_model) along with some of the other cels (price, weight, etc.) - all appropriate cels in the new row ARE filled in. I then save the file as a tab-delimited .txt file, and upload.

After 46 attempts of documenting the various results with the various easypopulate.php files installed, I'm ONLY able to successfully update a New Product (new row) with the original easypopulate.php file installed (from Langer). All other versions fail to add a New Product (new row) and result in the infamous 1136 Error (shown above).

Thanks, Jay

I don’t know where NULL came from . . . none of my cels have NULL entered in them.

“I am betting that the manufacturers_id is 11 and not NULL”
If you mean the “v_manufacturers_name” column, this has always been left blank, since I don’t use a manufacturers id in my products.
Maybe this has something to do with the database . . .the manufacturers_id Field in the table zen_products shows the Type as int(11), the Null field as Yes, and the Default field as NULL.
Since I leave this cel blank in my spreadsheet, could this be adding a NULL and causing a NULL in the Error ?

Don’t know if this is relevant, but the order of the column names in the Error are very different than the column order in the spreadsheet . . .which is also different than the order of the Fields in the database table zen_products . . .

“Are you ending each row of data with EOREOR?”
All lines do end with EOREOR.

“You save it as a csv with a .txt extension, so for example it would be test.txt which is a csv file - it doesn't have to have a .csv extension.”
From my spreadsheet file, I save it as a tab-delimited file with .txt extension, not a csv file.

Thanks, lankeeyankee.

Hmm... well if schoolboy's file works when you do this, it should ALWAYS work. I think there's something different happening when adding a new row.

At this point it's tough to tell what's going wrong without having the ability to see ALL the files and access to the site. If I could personally test and see when and where this goes wrong, it would be much easier to know why. And much faster.

jaybird,
i would need the login to your server and to your zencart. send it in a private message. i am very busy with my other clients at the moment, so i may not get to your problem for a couple days. i can't guarantee i could fix it either; we'll see...

mrbuzzsaw,
sounds like you want to create some custom fields that do not currently exist in the zen cart. if concerned about changing/modifying files, you should hire a developer to get this done for you. try the Commercial Help Wanted section.

Re: Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

Hi

If you want to add extra fields to easy populate which are in a separate table, not the products table, how would I do that? At the moment, I have to go into the product_extra-fields table and add the productid for each product. I also have some extra information I would like to populate that table with.

Thanks

Gillian

Easy populate helps add product information to your site, but if you're looking to update other kinds of information, you should consider running MySQL commands in your phpyMyadmin. If you're unsure about the code to be used, please consult a PHP/SQL developer. and ALWAYS ALWAYS backup your files.

Thanks,

The extra information in additional tables is product condition and product warranty, so it is product information we are looking to add.

This is so we can future proof the added information.

But it seems like Zen 2.0 will be completely different and will require a complete rework so maybe future proofing is not needed in this case.

Can you answer the question on how to add different tables to EZ populate?

It seems that you could add this information in the description box, which would be the easiest way to go about it.

Is there a particular reason why you're adding it as separate fields in a new table?

Re: Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

swamyg1:

I assume this would work for adding meta tags for products?

I'm trying to find this out myself as well.

From what Lanky suggested, just check the products structure in your database and whatever fields are in there, can be added to the EP table.

Problem I see there is that whilst the metatags status fields are in the products structure, the actual metatags titile, keywords and descriptions are not.

They have their own field in the database called meta_tags_product_description and in that structure, resides the metatags_title, metatags_keywords and metatags_description.

I'm trying to find a clean way to add meta tags and status at the same time as an upload of upto 1000 parts at a time..

1.2.5.7 does this, and although the process works, there are some code issues and you get warnings on the admin site, which to me is never a good thing.

I'm using 1.2.5.4 on my live site, so this thread interested me, and I'm cautious to upgrade it to 1.2.5.7 whilst there are code issues...

I think what I will do is do a clean install on my test site, dump 1.2.5.4 on that and see if I can amend the EP as per this tutorial...

Mike, yes you should definitely try upgrading. What kind of errors are you getting when you upgrade EP?
