Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

jackie.taferner:

Mike, yes you should definitely try upgrading. What kind of errors are you getting when you upgrade EP?

Installed 1.2.5.7b on Zen Version 1.3.8a.. (test site, local server)

I get the following errors in admin;

Warning: include(C:/wamp/www/zencart/temp/fileList.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\wamp\www\zencart\admin\easypopulate.php on line 2438

Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening 'C:/wamp/www/zencart/temp/fileList.php' for inclusion (include_path='.;C:\php5\pear') in C:\wamp\www\zencart\admin\easypopulate.php on line 2438

and when I do a complete d/l I get blank spread sheet, albeit the following on one row;

<b>Warning</b>: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in <b>C:\wamp\www\zencart\admin\easypopulate.php</b> on line <b>852</b><br />

and the headers correctly displayed on another row...

but no data...

It appears some files may be missing. Try re-uploading all the EP files again. Make sure they're in the right directory too. If it asks to overwrite, say "yes".

On another note, make sure you've run the proper remove & install patches, since you are upgrading.

From the install read me file:

If you are upgrading from 1.2.5.5

You must point your browser to:
http://www.yourstore.com/admin/easypopulate.php?langer=remove
This will prompt for the new configuration values to be reinstalled.

jackie.taferner:

It seems that you could add this information in the description box, which would be the easiest way to go about it.

Is there a particular reason why you're adding it as separate fields in a new table?

I am under the impression that adding the information in a different table "future proofs" my work.

Is this not correct?

Re: Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

plsony, not quite sure what you mean by "future proofs".

Anything you put in the product description will display on the product page just fine, and won't be changed unless you decide to change it.

If you plan on using the data for other, more complex uses that require a special database table - then that would be a reason to be adding additional fields.

Otherwise, i would say to stay clear of modifying the database. it will actually make your site more difficult to upgrade in the future, being that extra custom stuff is added.

Thanks,

I thought by adding an extra table it will not wipe out the extra field data when upgrading to future releases of zen cart.

Is this not correct?

I am following the insturctions on this thread
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=120523

to add product fields product_condition and product_warranty and would like EP to pickup these fields.

They say I should make an additional table to future proof my work.

Re: Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

plsony,

Their post is referring to how you can add extra fields into the database in a way that will future proof your database edits. But if extra fields are unnecessary in the first place, this is not needed.

Trust me, if you have your product descriptions and details in the "product descriptions" box, they *will *carry over to upgrades.

The only reason to add new product fields in the database is if you plan to do something fancy with them (ie you have some product price calculation, or need the database to sort stuff by these variables, or other applications along those lines).

If you don't plan to manipulate the values in the database table, and this is only for display purposes on the product page, then your best bet is to use the "product description" field. Easiest way to accomplish what you're after, no DB edits needed. And no easy populate edits needed either.

And the warning at the top of the admins screen,

Warning Easy Populate Configuration Missing. Please install your configuration by clicking here

And when I click on the install icon, I then get all the other garbage as per the previous attempt on 1.2.5.5.csv...

Lather rinse and repeat and go back to 1.2.5.4 and no issues, clean install....

Re: Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

cleaned all instances of easy populate from the phpmyadmin

Mike, since this is a clean install of ZC, you might just want to start with a fresh database and install, instead of cleaning up what's there.

So start from step 1, fresh zc install, and brand new database and user.

Get the latest version of EP too: http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=1240

Check your version of PHP and GD2 on your server (in the developer tools section of zen cart)

Would any of these issues have anything to do with the versions of php and mysql ?

Check for the actual version of PHP (not the admin, but the code). you can do this in Zen Cart's admin: Tools > Server/Version Info.

It'll say right at the top "PHP Version ###"

Also scroll down and make sure that GD support is enabled (probably easiest to do a "page search" for GD to find this out).

Shazzam.. no GD support..

Ok have enable the php.gd2 via WAMP Server and it now shows under Server/Tools when I do search for gd.

Will do another clean install now and see what happens...

Try opening the install.sql file included with the download package.

Copy and paste this into the Tools > Install SQL Patches in your ZC admin.

Copy and paste this into the Tools > Install SQL Patches in your ZC admin.

I did try that, but all I get is the usual duplication error messages, and it makes no difference to the blab on the admin screen..

Just very frustrating, as I have a huge parts list I want to upload, and I a), don't want to do it manually, (as I would then need to go and add metatags individually b), don't want to upload 1.2.5.7 to the live site if it's going to give me the same grief as my test site.

Metatag titles, keyword and descriptions on individual items are important right..??? or am I going round in circles for nothing ?

meta tags on products are useful if you're planning to Search Engine Optimize your website.

A good mod for this is http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=231

It wont change meta tags, but it'll at least put the product name in the link, making the page's search engine relevance better.

jackie.taferner:

hmm... try changing the name of the /tempEP/ directory to /temp/

Now you are running around in circles with me..! getting dizzy yet..??

I did this, and I get the following,

Warning: include(C:/wamp/www/zencart/EASYPOPULATE_CONFIG_TEMP_DIR/fileList.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\wamp\www\zencart\admin\easypopulate.php on line 2438

Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening 'C:/wamp/www/zencart/EASYPOPULATE_CONFIG_TEMP_DIR/fileList.php' for inclusion (include_path='.;C:\php5\pear') in C:\wamp\www\zencart\admin\easypopulate.php on line 2438

With a message at the top saying it couldn't find the temp/ directory.. (as expected)

So I configured EP to use temp/ instead of tempEP/ and it proceeded to give me the complete babble again...

It has to have something to do with the filelist.php file, as that is what is called up in line 2438

eg

include(DIR_FS_CATALOG . $tempdir . 'fileList.php');

PS... all that garbage that gets displayed on the admin screen is actually coming from the filelist.php file, if thats any help

But I cant see anything in that file that would suggest any wrong doing

Re: Here's a quick tutorial on how to add fields to easypopulate v1.2.5.4 or 1.2.5.5

basically, what's happening is it's having trouble finding the fileList.php file, which should be located in the /tempEP/ directory.

But notice that it's looking for the file in this directory: /EASYPOPULATE_CONFIG_TEMP_DI/

That tells me that the SQL command did not work in telling the program to search in the /tempEP/ directory.

Maybe you should try hopping into the phpMyadmin and search for EASYPOPULATE_CONFIG_TEMP_DI

See if there's a statement defining that variable as "tempEP". If not, you can post what's in there and i'll edit it for you.
