ozpost shipping module

ozetrade:

Hi Rod - thanks for your comments. Actually, Zencart will install without CURL, no hoops or sidesteps. I've done it many times.

As have I in the past... but not with the latest 1.3.9 releases.

ozetrade:

I do appreciate your comments in a later post suggesting a work around to solve the install issue.

Hopefully it went OK?
I also appreciate the report, because it has highlighted yet another thing that can go wrong (and a scenario I hadn't tried/considered) that can easily be avoided in future updates.

ozetrade:

FRANK. Your comments indicate you like to "Categorize People".

I don't think Frank was really having a dig at you .... We've been having a bit of a 'laugh' at the goings on in another thread recently, and his comment was more of an 'in' joke.

ozetrade:

If you actually read the text in the popup, it advised that some payment & shipping modules require CURL to talk to to there respective servers to get real-time quotes and payment authorizations - there is no mention of installation issues,

Until now there probably haven't been any installation issues as a result of this, and I wouldn't be expecting the zencart team to update this text on the basis of one 3rd party module. It really is for me to handle the problem in a much more userfreindly manner.

ozetrade:

and as I haven't had any installations issues with earlier versions of the ozpost module, I personally had no issue asking for advise in this instance.

As always, I'm happy to answer any question, no matter what skill level or experience a user has. The code has gone through many changes over the years new things have been added, others have been dropped and others have simply changed the way it 'works'.

It is always good when people are able to solve problems out for themselves, but it is even better if I'm made aware of such problems so I can take steps to avoid or mitigate them for the benefit of others. This being one such example.

Cheers
Rod

!@#$%^& I'm so confused. Is there no pattern to this? Why now?

I fear I may need to roll back the server code, even though the DIFF's haven't provided any solid clues either.

Its still a mystery.

Re: ozpost shipping module

I'm in the process of upgrading to 2.0.6 and all seems to be working ok.

Can I put a feature request in for future versions? A simple option to NOT display the delivery time estimate during checkout would be really helpful. I have been manually changing the module code to remove time estimate, but if it was built into the admin that would be even better.

You can do that via the admin console under the shipping module itself..

***Postage Delay (days)

make that parameter -1 and the ETA will not show

Sure.

Your wish is my command - Go to the config page, and see where it says Postage Delay (days) ?

Enter a negative value (such as -1). Voila, time estimates are gone.
(The code has had this functionality since early V1).

Yes, I know this isn't an 'obvious' setting or place to set such a thing, but if you think about it, no one is ever going to need to enter a postage delay AND hide the display at the same time, so it does actually make sense.

Hey Rod..

V2.05 and were not getting any rates either..

Hmmm, Mike, which one of these is you?

Norts
ozpost v (unspecified)
server2.camelot-hosting.com
Zen Cart [http://www.nortsandones.com.au]

or

Norts And Ones
ozpost v2.0.5
xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.static.dsl.dodo.com.au NULL Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0;...

These are both from up to the minute log files. Neither appears to have all data intact. (The first missing ozpost version number, the second missing the zencart identifier).

I think these are both symptoms of a problem rather than the problem itself though.

Sorry Rod..

Confused you.!!! (and me.. but after the day I have had, and the rain we have copped... nothing is surprising.)

Hmm.. I had no issue setting up ZCv139c on my localhost server - Now I'm curious! I'm going to try other portable http servers to see if I can get a failure due to no CURL:huh:

Well lets hope your right:lookaroun I tend to ignore those type of comments most of the time, but occassionally I bite - but I do try real hard to hold my tongue. I'll apologies to Frank right now if he's taken offence, and hope he sees this comment before he decides to have a we rant like I did.

Who in their right mind would knock these guys & gal anyway. They have taken a grungy shopping cart and made a true ecommerce system out of it.

Once again thanks

Re: ozpost shipping module

Hey Rod/Everyone,
I just upgraded to v2.0.6. Everything appears to be working ok at this early stage. I still have to finish configuring it and test that all postage rates are coming out exactly right but at first sight it looks ok.

Thanks rod for all your help. Glad it's resolved.

Bad wording on my part... I meant that I haven't even tried the latest releases without cURL being installed and enabled first.

I'm not entirely convinced it is resolved. It appears that upgrading has apparently solved the problem for some, but I do still have one report of a v2.0.5 installation giving problems.

I've still no explanation as to why it has suddenly started to fail today rather than a few days ago when I last worked on the code.

If upgrading solves the problem, great, it is about all I can suggest at the moment anyway, but personally I'd still like to find out WTF is going on.

Cheers

Oh, so it looks like it may be a V1 (or unspecified version) issue after all.

I know you customise the code a fair bit, but I'd be interested in knowing if v2.0.5/6 works ok on your live site or not.

Re: ozpost shipping module

Hi RodG,

My ozpost recently stopped working (couldn't get rates so it use the maximum $25/$99). So I've just upgraded to version v2.0.5 from the zencart website. Now all seems to be working again.

However, I cannot get "Hide parcel rates if letter sized ? No" to work, as it either shows letter OR parcel, not both. I basically want an express option for letter sized products as well.

Hope you can guide me a bit here,

thank you very much

It should work, we use 1.3.7.1.
