Re: Zen Cart Button Construction Kit 1.6.5 and up..

Serious:

Tried adding these buttons to my local install before putting them on my live site.

Created the buttons I wanted.
Created a .ZIP file and downloaded to my PC.
Extracted the contents.
Placed the folder (buttons) into zencart/includes/templates/CUSTOM/

still have the same old buttons.

What am I missing? If the images in the ZIP file are the buttons you created using the Zen Cart Button Construction Kit module, then the module is working correctly..

If you have buttons then whatever the issue is, it is NOT caused by this module. The Zen Cart Button Construction Kits only purpose is to create Zen Cart button sets (store and admin). If the module generated your buttons, then you will need to post a new thread in the appropriate section of the forum to find out why you cannot get your new buttons to display.. (not really a support question for this module)

No.
:blush:and you don't have to.. The Zen Cart Button Construction Kit does that when it creates the button sets.. BUT if you are using PNG versus, JPG or GIF, you do have to update your admin settings to tell it which file format your store buttons are in..

and not to keep beating a dead horse or to be the detail police, HOW to upload your buttons or configure your store's button settings is really an off topic discussion for this support thread.. Unless the issues are caused by this module, you should check out the FAQs (which PROBABLY has the answers..) or search the forum before you post your question.. because a LOT of this setup stuff has been ASKED and ANSWERED a LOT already..

Hi Serious

Currently you are using gifs, so i just generate gifs but set the background to grey like your site,

and then just upload them to

/includes/templates/your_template/buttons/english/

I think?

Sorry.. Not trying to be a PITA, but it really kinda is off topic.. this is the SUPPORT thread for the button module and your question is more of a general Zen Cart "how-to" question.. Search the forum or the FAQs for the term "buttons". This is a fairly common question, and you will find lots of people have asked and it has already been answered.. LOTS of good information is already posted in these two sources..

To get you started here are my search results of the FAQ for the term "buttons":

Re: Zen Cart Button Construction Kit 1.6.5 and up..

I've searching and trying to find the info I need...thanx.

May suggest that the documentation be revised to clarify the following:

Copy the resulting language button folders from the folder 'zen_bck/buttons/' to 'includes/templates/[YOUR_TEMPLATE]/buttons/' inside your shop's catalog folder.
The calalog button definitions are contained in the file /zen_bck/includes/zen_bck_config_cat.php.
The admin button definitions are contained in the file /zen_bck/includes/zen_bck_config_admin.php.
Perhaps a little more detail as to *what to do *with the PHP files.

Yes the program creates the buttons just fine, but it's not much use if the included documentation doesn't provide clear and consise information regarding the installation.

Having nifty buttons is worthless if you have hunt around outside the program for hints to installing them.

As I stated before...I'll wing it.

Re: Zen Cart Button Construction Kit 1.6.5 and up..

One or more of the FAQs I pointed you to DOES explain where to put the buttons..

As for what to do with the PHP files.. Perhaps the documentation could clarify this, but the short answer is NOTHING..

Re: Zen Cart Button Construction Kit 1.6.5 and up..

You're missing the point entirely.

I downloaded the add-on.
Followed the instructions and created the buttons I wanted.
I followed the instructions and placed the new folder where it's supposed to be based on the instructions.
No new buttons on my site.

Do see the problem?
Yes I created buttons based on the provided documentation.
Yes I placed the file where it was supposed to go based on the provided documentation.
zencart/includes/templates/CUSTOM/buttons/enlish/catalog

The expected result was not achieved.

So know I'm supposed to hunt around outside the add-on for a posssibl solution or better instructions?

No, not gonna happen.
No I'm not lazy, just a bit frustrated.

I'll stick with the white buttons.

if this is the location where you installed the buttons:

zencart/includes/templates/CUSTOM/buttons/enlish/catalog

then they will not display

They need to be located in:
zencart/includes/templates/CUSTOM/buttons/enlish/

They also won't display unless you replace CUSTOM with the actual name of the template your using and spell "english" correctly.

Re: Zen Cart Button Construction Kit 1.6.5 and up..

Serious:

Serious:

"CUSTOM" was used to illustrate that there is a custom folder in use. The actually file name is Darkness and the files were placed in that folder.

EnGlish...yes.

Sorry, fat fingers this AM.

I think I found the problem.

When you create your buttons, the resulting zip package contains the following file structure:

buttons

english

catalog

The buttons images are contained in the catalog folder

You'll need to copy the images from the catalog folder into the english folder.

This needs to be clarified in the readme file.

To Clyde's point, in addition to the minor readme changes I'm gonna make, I'm also gonna make a slight modification to the text that displays on the button creation page as well. Currently it reads as follows:

All buttons in the zip file were created in the folder /buttons**/[button_type]**/languageThis is actually a typo as the actual path is: /buttons/language/[button_type]

So this will be modified and expanded to read as follows:

All buttons in the zip file were created in the folder /buttons/YOUR_LANGUAGE/****[button_type]

Upload your store button images to: /includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/buttons/YOUR_LANGUAGE/. (More information on Zen Cart buttons can in the following FAQs:

Upload your admin button images to: YOUR_ADMIN_FOLDER/includes/languages/YOUR_LANGUAGE/images/buttons.Hopefully this will close this "issue" out for all going forward..

Re: Zen Cart Button Construction Kit 1.6.5 and up..

When I went to save the zip file for a set of buttons, the program automatically saved the file without asking me where to save or under what filename, which meant that I then had to go find the zip file on my system. Having found buttons.zip, I then had to rename it to something meaningful. Subsequent button sets generated for comparison purposes also had to be renamed accordingly.

It would have been nice if the program asked the user where to save and under what filename. Would this be possible in a future upgrade, or is my installation at fault.

Other than this minor gripe, this is a fabulous mod and many thanks to everyone that contributed.
