Image Handler 4 (for v1.5.x) Support Thread

DivaVocals:

Simple answer.. change hosts..

Thanks

Just signed up for GoDaddy for 1 month to see if this works on it.
Server has GD lib v2.0.34
Lightbox is also installed and working on this Zencart 1.5.0
The steps i took:

  1. downloaded fresh zip file if IH4
  2. changed YOUR_ADMIN to my admin folder name. EVERYTHING else is left as it it
  3. FTP IH4 files
  4. logged in to admin and IH4 is successfully installed
  5. Replace the additional_images.php with the lightbox version
  6. Changed Admin-Configuration-Images-set "IH resize images" to "yes". EVERYTHING else is left as it it
  7. Edited a product and uploaded the image by clicking save (the uploaded image is 550x41)
  8. this what i get : and there is no medium and large image in product listing in front end also

Attachment 11159

I must be NOT doing something very basic that need to be done. If 1000s of people are using it , it must work.
Can anyone point out the obvious thing i am missing here.

Thanks

Re: Image Handler 4 (for v1.5.x) Support Thread

In IH4 header_php.php files i found out a section which was commented out and a note that :
//End Image Handler changes 2 of 2 (this entire section is commented out for Image Handler 3)

though i have never installed IH3 (or IH2 or any other version of IH).

Does this section need to be there and NOT commented out ?

Or is there any other problem with my installation or procedure ?

other core files seem untouched to me comparing with the backup, barring changes made by IH4 to the core files

Thanks

@kjetilhansen
What language is your admin in? If it is not English please read through this thread to see the solution to installing in another language. Or put the admin into English and install and then revert to the other language.
If your admin is in English please ignore this comment.

Re: Image Handler 4 (for v1.5.x) Support Thread

@relish
It is kind of hard for people to comment for a couple of reasons. Firstly, there is an element of not-sure because your site is doing something strange. Secondly, we can't see the site. If you have some temporary godaddy hosting then post the url so people can look at the site. If you don't want to do that then at least explain what you mean by

there is no medium and large image in product listing in front end also

Is there an image that is not being found? By which I probably mean what is the src of the image that is not being found? That information is going to help. Also I would read the stuff about mis-configured configure.php files in this and other threads and see if that applies.

Re: Image Handler 4 (for v1.5.x) Support Thread

I have image handler 4 installed on zen cart 1.5.0

In the bmz_cache sub-folders I noticed a majority of the image files have file permissions set at 666. Is there any reason the permissions should not be set to 644?

Re: Image Handler 4 (for v1.5.x) Support Thread

SEO friendly file names?

Hello, I am currently using image handler 4 and am concerned that it renames my files in a way that keep them from showing up in google image searches. Is there any way to keep the clean file names I created as well as title tags and alt tags?

Thank you.

Thanks. No I do not have any insight to offer.. it's a significant code change, and you may want to consider hiring someone to make the change for you if no one here can offer any insight..

Re: Image Handler 4 (for v1.5.x) Support Thread

Honestly, if you are needing pointers then this may not be the project to take on. The way that IH stores images is a 'caching' type system and changing the naming conventions is problematic because that approach is deep down and inherent in the structure of IH. There are other image handler systems that do not use this caching type approach.

I have a great programmer helping me so I'll bring the issue to him. But just in case, what other image handler would you would recommend?

While the filenames of the images do contribute to their inclusion in search results for image searches on Google and other search engines, the evidence from performing these searches indicates that context is more important. Make sure that the product the image is on has a good name and a good, valuable, relevant description, and the images should be indexed appropriately.

and has been pointed out

The way that IH stores images is a 'caching' type system and changing the naming conventions is problematic because that approach is deep down and inherent in the structure of IH.

So with regards to Image Handler and file naming it will require a fairly substantial change to the way it is architected to change the file naming function.

I've a problem with zen cart 1.5.1 .
Once installed IH4 following instructions, it has not modified my custom template, but the dafault template.
The template i'm using is working well.

Installed on zen cart 1.5.0 with custom template there wasn't errors.

Re: Image Handler 4 (for v1.5.x) Support Thread

Suggestion for the description of the plugin on the plugin's page:

"It is strongly suggested that if you are NEW to Zen Cart and web development that you read these threads BEFORE you install Image Handler 4."

That thread is over 700 pages long! :P I think that is a bit of a large task for someone who might want to install the plugin. I think what you mean is that you suggest someone reads those two posts, right?

And, a link to this version 4 thread would be a convenience most would appreciate.

If this is tested to work with 1.51, can the plugin page say so?

Thanks!
