Abbington Mega Template [Support Thread]

Thanks people, for your replies. I have already set up a new banner group. What I don't understand is how to get that new banner group appearing as, say, slide 6. This presumably requires modification of some files for slide 6 to appear in admin, and to appear at all in the slider.

Re: Abbington Mega Template [Support Thread]

Hello Anne and Diva - this question is about the plugin "Editable Middle Boxes" and an effect it has had on this Abbington Mega template so I am asking it in here as I know Diva wrote the plugin and she is vocal in here.

I installed the plugin which is absolutely terrific - good plugin - but I have lost the 'New, Specials, Featured' navigation tabs at the top of the main centre box. I was hoping that maybe either of you could help me by suggesting the file I should check / re-upload or overwrite? to solve the issue. (I want to use this plugin on 5 other sites using Abbington Mega template but want to fix this first  ) site is http://www.dazzlers.net.au if you need to have a look

cheers,
Mike

Yes, you have to add it to the includes/templates/abbington_mega/common/tpl_home_slider.php file.

Thanks,

Anne

My guess is that you did not merge the includes/templates/abbington_mega/templates/tpl_index_default.php file.

Thanks,

Anne

Sorry Mike.. I am going to sound like a broken record, but this is again NOT an Abbington Mega template question, but an "Editable Middleboxes" module support question.. and there is an appropriate support thread for this since the answer will benefit folks using these modules together, NOT just the users of THIS template..

Hello again Diva - I fully understand > the answer will benefit folks using these modules together, NOT just the users of THIS template ... however I could not find a support thread for 'Editable Center Boxes' but I did check the plugin page and noticed you were a co-author? ... and I knew you were an avid contributor in this thread so I thought I would get an answer from you if perchance Anne wasn't sure. I searched editable centre boxes support thread and got a no result, I tried some other search term variations again with no result - I have no doubt whatsoever that such a thread exists but the search system in here leaves a lot to be desired in that it is very brad based, but alas I digress.

So you see Diva I did make an effort to find the appropriate thread - I find it really great with some of the plugins I use that the plugin page actually has a link to the support forum, very efficient, very thoughtful, very ....

In closing - the determination as to whether this or some of the other queries I have made recently should be raised with the template creator or to a plugin creator (if you can find them, some are no longer supported, or find their support thread without spending an eon doing so, probably should be determined by the template creator once the post has been made. On some occasions when I have believed the query could / should be 'tackled' by 'both' I have been chastized for double posting whilst in some cases it did require collaboration between the two parties to obtain a resolution. So I guess as much as it would be utopia to think that a simple search and a simple post will resolve an issue it is just that, utopia. I do not set out to annoy people, especially those that have contributed such terrific plugins and templates like yourself and Anne, but alas that sometimes happens unintentionally.

Please give me the a link to your support support thread and I will post both the problem and the resolution in one single suitable post for the benefit of others - the 'file merge' requirement is a problem for many of us novices, both in interpretation and implementation - I have learned something so I will pass it on.

cheers

Not that hard to find at all.. From the Editable Home Page Centerboxes description:

Editable Centerboxes is a simple module which adds three editable "centerboxes" to the home page. I got the idea because I was trying to do something similar to this:

One of these days I hope to figure out how to use this to show specific sideboxes in the center content area. (The Testimonials sidebox for example) In the meantime this module will give store owners the ability to edit and manage the content in these boxes

Each box has an associated defined page which can be edited using the defined pages editor. The included stylesheet allows you to modify the look and feel of these boxes. Please note that the height of each box is fixed (and controlled in the stylesheet). I've been messing around with using CSS so that the height of all three boxes is dynamic and controlled by the height of the longest box. (Still working on that..) In the meantime, it's easy enough to modify the box height. Just remember, in order for the page to look good, these boxes aren't meant to hold PAGES of content anyway..

Ready to get started? Just follow the installation instructions below.

Any questions?? Just hit the forums: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=149391. I always STRONGLY recommend with ANY module that you read the entire support thread before posting questions.. You may be surprised to find that your question has probably already been ASKED and ANSWERED.. Remember the forum is "manned" by volunteers.. In my experience, thread searching is a surprisingly EASY method to find answers..
!!READ EVERYTHING!!

I very strongly recommend you read through the entire Readme file BEFORE installing.

Double posting is not useful, and you were "chastized" when it was clear that your question might be better served posted in a more appropriate place.. I am a BIG beleiver that posting in the RIGHT place benefits the community so that future viewers can get the answers they need.. I find stuff ALL the time on this forum because people have posted questions in a place where the answers can be found instead of being buried in an unrelated topic/post.

Okay then.. Please don't take this the wrong way, perhaps YOU need Anne to guide you, but I don't need Anne's PERMISSION/GUIDANCE to "determine" when a post is OBVIOUSLY NOT related to TEMPLATE support.. Neither does anyone else who posts in this forum.. and please note that Anne AGREED with my assessment of your posts (NOT directly related to this template as much as they were GENERAL Zen Cart or other module support questions)..

Glad you got your issues all worked out.. hope you'll share your solution in the Editable Home Page Centerboxes support thread..

If this is the php for slide 5, how is slide 5 associated with BANNERS_GROUP_SET13 ? And how is slide 6, which is what I want to add, which is sitting there waiting to go, to be associated with any BANNERS_GROUP_SET such that it appears as slide 6?

The slide number had nothing to do witht the banner group. I have numbered the banner groups in my templates so that if somone wants to install all 30 templates the banner groups will not interfere with each other.

Anne

I see. But how do I add a new slide to the slider? I am happy to follow instructions, but I can't find any.

Re: Abbington Mega Template [Support Thread]

Hi, Very nice template.

Now, I've been thinking, since the slides on main page are called from the templates\abbington_mega\tpl_home_slider.php how do I define a different set of banners for slide1, slide2, etc. in a SECOND language?

Please, advise,

You could clone the file, create new banner groups, then call the cloned file from your new language define_main_page.php

Thanks,

Re: Abbington Mega Template [Support Thread]

Hello Anne - I really do need some help with this issue - after the dialogue with Diva recently in this thread I took her advice and posted the following in the 'Editable Home Page Centerboxes' support thread and received the response below;

POST > Diva, I am still having problems with the Editable Home Page Centerboxes plugin for V1.3.9h using Abbington Mega template. Anne's suggestion of maybe I hadn't merged includes/templates/abbington_mega/templates/tpl_index_default did the trick in restoring the New, Featured, Specials tabs on the main centre box however in doing that the editable centrebox would not load. I have spent some time reading and re-reading the installation instructions and have also re-loaded the installation files. I even deleted the zip folder from my hard drive and downloaded it again from Zen Cart to ensure I didn't have any corrupt files. I even loaded the plugin on to another site with this same template to see if I could get it to work but again to no avail - it is either editable centrebox showing but new, featured & specials tabs gone or it is maintan these tabs and no editable centrebox showing.

my site is http://www.treeoflifejewellery.com - I would appreciate it if you could look at page source and find my error.

many thanks,
Mike

RESPONSE > From gjh42 - Both your featured and new centerboxes have content, but the whatsnew div is hidden by styling. Presumably this is for the tab operation; you must have some javascript that is supposed to make the tabs and switch action, but this is somehow disabled or absent. I don't think it is possible to tell more from the outside. You will need to check all downloaded files associated with template and middleboxes to see if there are any overlaps you have not yet merged. Perhaps you did not merge something correctly; someone familiar with both the middlebox and template code would have to look at that.

I now need your help (and that of Diva if necessary as she seems very familiar with this plugin) in trying to sort out this issue. Glenn's suggestion that I may not have merged a file correctly is valid IF there is more than one(1) file to merge. The installation instructions for the plugin shows > If your template already has the following files included includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_index_default.php, includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_index_categories.php

you will need to use a tool like Winmerge or Beyond Compare to merge your template's file with the one included in this module. - I have merged the first of those files but there was no includes/templates/abbington_mega/templates/tpl_index_categories.php file to merge the same name plugin file to. Just wondering if there is something in this?

In any case I have tried all manner of adjustments to files to try to get it to work but without success (I reinstated ALL original files except modified css for middlebox). I am unsure whether I have done something wrong or missed something but whatever the case I really would like to get a resolution to this - I have a number of sites using your template and I want to use this plugin on all of them.

cheers,
Mike

I'll be happy to answer this question on the appropriate support thread for the Editable Home Page Centerboxes.. or the support thread for the Tabbed Home Page Modules (sorry..)

I am NOT hijacking the **Abbington Mega Template **support thread for a module related issue.. As I have stated previously MORE community members will benefit from the answer, not just the users of this template if the question and answers are posted in the RIGHT place.... (and that is NOT here)

Hint: if you search the **Tabbed Home Page Modules **support thread for "tpl_index_categories.php", you might find your answer..

Hello Diva,

Thanks very much for your response but I am now utterly confused - I have already posted this query in the 'appropriate' support thread, so do I now await your response? I have now read every post in the Tabbed Home Page Modules support thread and not found an answer - could be for two reasons, I do not have that module installed (unless of course it is included by default in this template) and secondly I am not a coder (the answer may well have been there but my limited knowledge of coding obviously did not recognize it), I am just a very simple man of 60 years of age trying my best to make websites for my own purposes and sometimes, make that often, I need help and this is one of those occasions. I do try very hard to work by the rules in here so if I do 'stray' then some tolerance would be appreciated.

So with all banter aside, can you help me? ........... in the appropriate support thread of course.

cheers,
Mike
p.s. I know it is not the normally accepted protocol to 'double post' however because I am so confused as to where I should be posting on this subject I have posted this also in the 'Editable Home Page Centerboxes' support thread.
p.p.s. note that the version I am using is ......... Editable Home Page Centerboxes - Version: 1.1

How about some PATIENCE?? I was a little tied up, and I gave you a HINT where to find your answer in the meantime..

You posted a question (in the right place thank you) Glenn answered you.. and apparently you still need more information.. so you post here to get more information instead of replying to Glenn???

Diva - please read Glenn's response and particularly the last line which I took to indicate take it now to this person - how would you interpret it? > Perhaps you did not merge something correctly; someone familiar with both the middlebox and template code would have to look at that. hence posting in here where 'both' people read the thread with the delusional thought process of maybe one of them may be able to help - I haven't had a response from Anne yet so maybe she will be kind enough to offer her assistance about a non-template issue affecting how her template works or does not work with a plugin suggested by others in this forum. If not then I will trouble Glenn again ... now would that be with the same question which he has answered or would I need to rework the same question so as to make it appear different?

It is becoming (sorry, read has become) obvious you do not wish to help me but are more interested in who is right and who is wrong, ultimately who is in control - you win.

kindest regards,
Mike

p.s. as you responded to me in here and not in the appropriate support thread I have responded to you in this inappropriate support thread
p.p.s. speed reading has its flaws right?
