They are currently working on ZenCart - Point of Sale System that runs as a Visual Basic application. This will be a great help.

I don't know if anyone is still interested, but I, like a few others, have been trying to make a Point Of Sale (POS) add-on for Zen-Cart.

Anyone interested can check out what I have so far at http://posdemo.cfisupply.com.

This is a pos add-on that is web-based. So far Microsoft IE is the browser that works best for me, but that has some to do with the fact that that is what I have been using up to the last month or so for my web browsing. I have tested it in FireFox and most things seem to work just fine.

I am not someone trying to sell any scripting or any of that kind of thing. I simply am a retailer using Zen-Cart and I myself am in need of a POS solution to use with my website. I am not a professional programmer, but am willing to learn and have already learned a lot over time.

Eventually, once I feel it is ready to be tested on other sites, I will post an add-on in the add-on section, but right now I would really appreciate it if a few people would look at what I have and give me pointers or suggestions on what they would like to see added/changed.

Does anyone know of any POS software that actually intagrates with Zen-Cart? I have looked at so many and can't find any support for them.

One of the neat features of the forum is it likes to look and see what you might have missed in a forum search. It takes a well-formatted thread subject and searches for similar threads.

Thanks, I have actually read all of those, but can't find a current post about them. As you know things are constantly changing and I don't want to get started only to find out that it is outdated or doesn't work anymore with zencart.
Plus I can't find someone that actually says they are using a POS with success....hence my question :)

Curiosity got the better of me and I tried the Ollacart with 1.3.9.f. I was not impressed that their release had a section for what "won't work" in their add on. Seems like you could fix a feature or take it out till you can.
Don't like the fact that you have to pay an extra $79 to use Authorize.net with a site that is already using Authorize.net. The POS will not access any of the payment methods already in Zen.:no:
IMHO, a fanny-pack and notepad would be just as effective as their system.
BIG Thumbs Down was that I could never get it to search the products which was one of their big advertising points.
Overall, it looks like they will have to do some major catching up before they are even viable.
Oh, and they conveniently have a "no refunds" policy. They do have a try-before-you-buy, but those in a hurry will fall victim to the "no refunds."

Thanks, that's what I was looking for because that is one of the "brands" everyone talks about for zen-cart. I also don't have much time so I am trying to find a good solution without getting frustrated because it doesnt' work :)

For my POS add-on and site, I use a custom field "products_upc" and also added another field "products_sku".

Once I finish the POS I will include the new fields in an sql install file. I might also have it so these fields (in my pos) can be set as a variable since probably several sites keep track of the upc/barcodes but use different fields.

Just thought I could chime in on what I use.

I see - I was thinking of also doing something similar - such as quick linking a UPC code to existing products within the zen-users database to hook the UPC with the product. However - I got to thinking that if most people use the already existing zencart addon called "Barcode Product Field" then I could just simply read from that so that the user won't have to setup all new products. I might just allow both options, since neither would really take much time to program... thanks for your input though :smile:

I am one of those that is patiently waiting for a POS solution, I have just picked up a barcode scanner and will be installing 'barcode product field' so it would be good if a pos solution uses that addon.

Sorry it's been taken me so long to complete my version. I've been working on so many different projects since April it's been hard to catch up. Thank you for answering my question, I am gonna have an admin option that allows the user to setup barcode scanning using the barcode product field addon or just have them rescan the UPC for each product they sell. Either way it'll be a quick process. Right now, I am currently working on a few minor modifications that "absolutely no other person developing a POS" has considered to add-on.
Beta release looks promising within the next month. I look forward to having everyone interested trying the POS... It's the most simplest of all the POS solutions ever made, and it does more than I have ever seen from the other solutions. I'll be posting more soon, along with a link to try the beta testing.

I can add this into my program. I am thinking of having multiple options on tracking inventory. Like if your product is say a 'bundle' consisting of 3 or more (for example) of the same products, I am thinking of dividing the bundle product into units that deduct from an overall quantity of all similar products.

Any other suggestions you'd like to see?

Have you looked at www.atrex.com a POS/Inventory control program that integrates with Zen-Cart?
