POS Point Of Sale

Hi there,

Has anyone worked on a Microsoft’s Retail Management System (RMS) API. (Zen Cart <> RMS)

I see a company (nitrosell.com) provides their own eCommerce solution which integrates with the RMS.

Would be interested to hear anyone experience / thoughts on this topic

I am building a standalone workstation, cash register using zencart and a standalone php script to quickly ring up a sale from zencart the database. This workstation is for B&M customer sales and service not e-com. There are some other details... others who may want to do this can ask me about it.

The demo script that cfisupply has hoisted is just what I need. In time I will need to do some more work on it, like add till reconciliation, some configuration settings for multi user multi currency, etc.

Nicolass over at http://code.google.com/p/point-of-sale-services-zencart/ has moved on with his project, but has offered to grant me access to the repository. Maybe this would be a good place to go with this script.

All those who need or use a script like this please come back with your support and we will select a project manager, and open a version control repository.

Anyone have any good solutions for a POS yet? I did buy MagneticOne POS for Zen cart and cannot get it working properly. MagneticOne basically said "Sorry, we cannot help you." So off to find something else, hopefully with a bit of support if the need should arise.

I got a point of sale software and we are trying to integrate Zen Cart within our software so it would connect, pull any orders, sales information and update the software when orders are complete. I looked at the documentation but I could not find the database structure that would be created by a default installation of Zen Cart? I am looking to find where in the database the information is stored and if it would be required to create a plugin to integrate as well or if it can be communicated with the database directly?

The database schema is in zc_install/sql/mysql_zencart.sql.

Not trying to rant but , Webgility is extremely disappointing and makes their product seem like its capable of doing much more than it can unfortunately. I can never understand technical support and they can never help or can't even point you to an ecommerce software that is 100% compatible with what I am trying to do.

I've looked at T-hub, Magnetic Ones QBI and Manager for ZC and tested them, Really nice but is currently not supporting QB POS a future plan according to their team.

I have products that are liquid flavors and come in multiple sizes and different strength levels ( only size changes price )

I kind of seen how another guy did it by linking products within a product and creating a separate product for each option. This would take 100's of hours to complete and make a different product for each one and then not having it show in the main Categories is beyond me .. I need the attribute in ZC to sync with Qb to a unique identifier(sku) via ECC ...

For anyone looking to Webgility for complete automation between your retail and online store , I would stop and ask your self if you ever intend on having products with options/attributes.

What boggles my mind and the only reason I am posting this is because I wanted to show a software list that is completely compatible with options/attributes/variants ..

I smell something fishy with Webgility unless Zen Cart And OScommerce are so hard to extract the attributes from it would take millions of hours coding or something ..

Was hoping for some closure here as I have Combination discounts and other custom work done on my site and I have grown very fond of Zen Cart. In fact I love it , I don't want to see it go , especially for Bigcommerce how lame .

or not ? ( for the money) I've supported numerous devs in zen cart and now all the modules etc purchased would be useless on top of Big commerce completely insane pricing and all the hours it would take to convert.

Here is a pic to why I am baffled they support a majority of these feature lacking paid for or inferior softwares such as Bigcommerce or Ubercart ( free ) that doesnt do all 3 product management options either. ( simple products, simple products and variants(attributes) and simple products with options.)

I guess what I am trying to see is if someone has or knows of a mod that will give zen cart attributes their own SKU number with stock or unique identifier so that when webgility goes to pull data or export into ZC it has a place to put the info ....

I am after some advice on what free/low cost POS systems work well with ZC and include barcode scanner abilities and can handle loyalty program updates.
I have created a ZC 1.5.1 website for the parents family plant business which currently has a retail store. They love ZC online features but keeping the stock levels up to date between the 2 different systems is creating a real nightmare on manual time.
The current POS system is not flexible to be able to integrate with ZC so they are looking to replace the POS system altogether to try and create an 'all in one' system for inventory control and customer management and order processing.

Can anyone recommend a good POS system that works/integrates well with ZC ?

I have looked a variety of different scenarios, and I haven't really found a great solution. The biggest issue is that an eCommerce platform works significantly different then a brick and mortar store. I have researched this several times in the last few years, each time I pretty much have come up with the same solution or a variation of that solution. I usually; depending on the POS system, set it up to create lets say a CSV that is uploaded to the ZenCart installation via FTP, maybe twice per day. Then shortly after that runs, I set up a Cron job in cpanel to pull that file and update the stock level (typically based on the model number as most POS systems have different product ID's). This updates the stock level in zencart based on the stock level in the POS system.

My problem is that the current system being used in the retail shop is old accounting based system that does not have the capabilities to be able to create a csv file or product load even. It was a private company that created the software in NZ and now struggle to support it.
So I am searching to replace the system into a true POS that can interact with ZC and can do multi-terminals too.
I'm now comparing, phreesoft, quickbooks pos, MagneticOne, and ollacart. If anyone has any feedback on these that would be great to hear.

I have had one customer that used the MagneticOne Module, ans hated it. But 1 isn't a very good sample size either. Personally I would go with something like Quickbooks, or PeachTree(Sage) or something a little bit more popular. And then just run an import/export csv.

I use quickbooks and have yet to see any import/export system that works. QB support is non-existent unless you pay for an ongoing support plan. I only use it as there is no real alternative. (just upgraded to 2014 and lost all my shipping history in the upgrade)

After a bit of further research.....

Quickbooks SDK is the only way to import orders into Quickbooks. This is NOT FREE..min Monthly invoices are $1,000.
Quickbooks IIF format will work for adding customers and some other items but it is a "use at your own risk" sort of thing as Intuit does not support it.
Quickbooks CSV format is very limited as well and really only works for things like importing products. Once again..no orders

Their new motto needs to be "Quickbooks...the fastest way to separate you from your money"

I was faced with a similar problem 12 months ago:

1. Running predominantly Linux systems, QuickBooks does not work with Linux

2. Kept an older version of Windows (XP) on another disk just to run accounting software. Support for XP has now ended.

3. Prices for QB installations / subscriptions are outrageous

So I cancelled my QB subscription and installed Front Accounting. FA has a module to import Zen Cart orders.

Can you tell me more about this Middleware your team has written? I to am looking at some kind of a solution for my retail location. And isn't using Vend in and of itself defeats the purpose of running zen-cart?
