Chemo's Ultimate URL's

SarahL:

I would certainly want 1.3.6 supported - its actually pretty close to 1.3.5 anyway
No, sorry. Instead of supporting the current versions of Zen Cart, I'm going to instead limit support to the versions that are >= 3 years old... now, where is a sarcasm emoticon when you need one? :P

SarahL:

what can we do?

Thanks Dreamscape - I just added another $25 to the kitty. Get yourself a little somethin' extra when the port is done. Perhaps a cold one, to celebrate a job well done!

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

okay so I just upgraded to zc 1.3.6 and I am having the ssl problems as well.

was there any solution to that at all? a workaround? anything until dreamscape gets this mod working for 1.3.6?

Looks like I'll have to do a backup and then restore my previous backup and then once the mod is complete i'll do a restore of the last backup and then...

oh man it's gonna be a long week.

whoa! I think I figured it out. I actually went back to dreamscape's site and noticed that one of the files that was changed in 1.3.6 was the html_output.php file in /includes/functions/ folder.

I did the required code changes suggested on dreamscape's installation page for the seo urls and now i get ssl pages. I didn't have to do any other changes.

I'm not sure if this was something that was already suggested or not but it worked for me.

mafiasam

whew!

I'm not even sure how you were able to add money to the fund when he fundraiser had already been over. It shouldn't have allowed you to contribute money since the project had already been closed and the funds had already been dispersed.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

Hey Dreamscape,

I thought the funding was closed and you re-opened for more. So I did my lovely 25 bucks again. (ou2k & gocareer are mine). Anyway, you got $600 now.
http://www.fundable.org/groupactions/zencart-seo-urls

Can you please make the other modules (news, dhl) update in version 3.0 as well?

All the zenners will really appreciate your effort!

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

People please, the funding has been closed since November 6th. That was the deadline. I have no clue how you are being able to pledge more to the fund, but it will do no good since it is over, all money has been collected, and your pledge won't be processed.

If you want to donate to the project, just send it to me directly. The group fundraiser is closed -- how you were even able to pledge on a closed action I have no clue, maybe a bug in fundable, but it won't count for anything. I repeat, the group fundraiser is closed.

Thank you everyone who pledged :D

kelvyn:

Hmmm, in your sig, there's a link which take you here.
Which says:

That's some HTML code that fundraiser gives you if you open a group action to place on your site. I haven't had time to remove it (actually forgot about until the other day), because I didn't even think that fundable would still collect pledges from it after the fact. It is just some kind of bug in fundable's system, so using it won't do anything.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

Folks, please be patient and give Dreamscape the space to actual get some time to work on this instead of constant asking for updates. I am sure Dreamscape will be just as eager to let us know when there's an update worth passing along. The less time he spends answering update questions, the sooner we will get the mod :)

Perhaps there should be another fundable (especially since people are contribution after it closed) to support upgrades to DHL, Multi-zone shipping and Dreamscape's other mods. :)

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

When somebody volunteers to create / update a mod for free, I completely agree. BUT in this case, many have contributed $ and as a customer, I believe they / we have a right to at the very least ask if there is an ETA for the mod, or at least an update.

You're absolutely right many of us have contributed and that's exactly it...contributed (it's a free will offering). Completely different than a purchase/commercial transaction. Yes! we contributed to bring the project to completion but it's not the same thing as hiring Josh to do the work.

Just like our contribution to the Zen Cart team doesn't give us any more rights to ask for v1.4, v1.5, etc. I don't think our contribution to Josh is any different than any other free willing offering (we call contribution around here). It's a free will donation.

Software ETA's ultimately do more harm than good. If there is one thing that you can count on, it is that ETA's always slip when vendors give them out. That is why some software vendors, myself included, don't give out ETAs. It just causes everyone grief when they are inevitably disappointed that the ETA has slipped yet again.

I can however give a brief roadmap of how I plan for the release to go down:

  1. The first release will be a public beta. Everyone interested can and should try it out on a test install of Zen Cart.
  2. Depending on the outcome of the public beta, then a 2nd beta may be called for.
  3. And from there it will be a short step to releasing a stable production worthy version

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

I understand your point on ETA's and its well taken. Maybe just periodic progress updates would be good enough . . .

You're absolutely right many of us have contributed and that's exactly it...contributed (it's a free will offering). Completely different than a purchase/commercial transaction. Yes! we contributed to bring the project to completion but it's not the same thing as hiring Josh to do the work.

I disagree 100% with this statement. Nearly everyone who "contributed" did with the intention of receiving something in return for their money. It was intended to be a commercial transaction. We weren't contributing money as a thank you for Dreamscapes hard work. We spent the funds that he stated it would take in order to finish the project. We give him 'X' and he'll give us 'Y'. This is COMPLETELY different than money that is contributed to zencart. This money is donated to encourage ongoing development but without a specific object in return.

Now you personally may not have seen it from this point of view, but I would dare to say that the majority of us saw this as a form of a business transaction.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

You and all your rights! So what if Dreamscape gives and ETA of 12/1 and then he delivers 3/1/07. Are you happier that you have an ETA that is missed? All I was trying to say is not about right or not right is the fact that some of us know Josh and the contribution he's made to this forum in the past. The post some of you were making almost seem like people are questioning whether he is working on this thing or not.

My point is whoever knows Dreamscape on this forum would never question whether he will deliver or not. Yes, people contributed (myself included) in expectation that we will get something back but I am willing to be patient to see what develops.

All the barrage of request of updates in less than 1-2 weeks of the fund closing is a bit unrealistic.

I am not asking for anyone to agree with me just expressing my view which I assume is okay. It's in your perogative to disagree with me 100% and that's perfectly fine!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Voltage, I know you contributed towards the project but does someone who didn't contribute have any rights as well to ask for when the project will be delivered?

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

to be honest - its actually more annoying to login and get you guys bickering about it all!!

Dreamscape - I don't know you from the forums, but progress reports are always welcome :) and is generally a good thing - I am happy with no ETA although I have to say that I am not happy waiting 6 months or a year for something, but if you are talking within a few months time frame (? no idea) then I am happy sitting back and letting you get on with it.

As I don't know you and no one really asked and you haven't really said its still a tad up in the air :D

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's

:D Let's move on... Every user of Zencart is grateful for the input of all the experts - whether they earn a living from their work or wish to remain philanthropic. At the end of the day, we (people that run e-shops using zencart) are eternally grateful to ALL of you and (where possible), will make donations / contributions for the time and intellectual capital that has gone into such an amazing product.

All of us know (or SHOULD know), that OpenSource cannot guarantee specific performance and we use the product entirely at our own risk. If people are not prepared to accept this fundamental condition of use, then they should avoid OpenSource and buy commercial software.

The sheer power and flexibility of Zencart makes it (for me at least) worth the wait for updates to mods, tweaking of core code and the release of new versions. It would be appropriate for **all users **of this product to recognise that the vast majority of people who devote time to dev work on Zencart, do so in their spare time, sometimes at the expense of other things they'd like to be doing (such as spending time with family), so let's all support their efforts and be glad that they're around to make their contributions.

At the same time, there is nothing wrong with experts selling their time and expertise - as long as it's an agreed transaction between two parties. There have been occasions when I desperately needed expert help, and I was quite happy to pay for it.

Now: my question... I loaded up Ultimate SEO and got it working in minutes, without any hitches. I have noticed, however, that it seems not to like to work with the EZpages CHAPTERS function. Without the mod, the PREVIOUS / NEXT buttons on a chapterised section perform as they should. However, after loading Ultimate SEO, these buttons are a little confused.

This is such a minor issue, so I don't consider it a problem. Even the most stupid customers on our shop will see that there are hyperlinks to other pages in the chapter in the accompanying boxed menu.
