Free Template "Future Zen"

future Zen was originally fixed width. The version that you are using was adapted to a liquid layout because lots of people were trying to use it that way and I wanted to demonstrate the "sliding doors" technique for expandable images.

However, my personal preference is also for fixed width sites. They're much easier to control and since my main screen is a high res widescreen, many liquid sites look plain daft. This is especially true of Zen Carts. Although I have heard people arguing that it allows the user to make full use of their screen real estate, most of the time there's no more on the page and you just have to turn your head further to see it all :no: HTH

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Ok. Now playing with your original side box files. And looking through the CSS. Am I right in, I have to cut from my changed files, and make files similar to the image files included in the future zen cart??? The sidebox header, with my changed colors. The sidbox contents, with it stretched for my products. Etc etc...???

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Hi,

Im using future zen as a base for my site and the firefox picked up an error in the css file.

.cartAttribsList { //* for Zen Cart versions 1.3.5+ */
margin-left: 1em;
}

based on other comments in the file i take it that it's supposed to be:

.cartAttribsList { /* for Zen Cart versions 1.3.5+ */
margin-left: 1em;
}

fantasic template btw.

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Interesting, In my playing around and such. I had to do a reinstall of zen cart. After getting everything reloaded. I loaded future_zen. (didn't reinstall the files, just left them during the reinstall of zencart.)

Anyways, for some reason now, the link_cap_box doesn't show up now.

Any ideas????

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Okay I have searched this thread for a while, but cant seem to find my answer.. I have been using the Future Zen template for a while now.. My problem is how to make the entire site wider.. I know it comes by default at a smaller size, but I would like it to fill the screen as I have seen other sites do and Im not sure if its the stylesheet I need to change or a combination.. Thanks..

steiffusawarehouse.comI suspect that things may have moved on since you posted this question. If not, then one possible reason for the image not showing is that it was intended to sit behind the EZ-Pages links in the header ... but they appear to be turned off.

Thanks..Are youy using one of the older fixed width version of the template, in which case I recommend an upgrade, or one of the later liquid (variable width versions) in which case you can edit the following CSS in your stylesheet> #mainWrapper {
background-color: #e5edf5;
text-align: left;
width: 90%; <--- change to 100%
vertical-align: top;
}

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Okay I changed over to the newer Future Cart and I got my template up and running, but the new category box is messed up.. Its the image sidebox content_bg.. It doesnt cover all of my categories.. Before when it was the middle image it just tiled so it covered all of my categories.. Now the sidebox comes up short and it make my box look very unprofessional.. How can I fix this?

As an aside the reason that the credit card accept box doesn't display properly on your FlagPride T-shirts site is because you are using a version of the mod that predates and isn't fully compatible with Zen Cart 1.3+. I've posted a later version in the downloads section that will work better with your site.

The early versions of the template were intended to show the power of Zen Cart 1.3, and that you didn't need to change lots of code to get a rather different look to the classic template. Happily this became the received wisdom rather quickly :cheers:, so my objective changed to demonstrating how to build flexible layouts without tables - I suspect you weren't the only person to get caught by the sudden change of direction :lamo:.

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Regardless its a good template and the change is a welcomed one.. Changing the images isnt bad at all once you get the hang of it and the way it is now adds even more options for people...

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Site is up and running but is there a way of adding a new image/logo to the right of the header.

See my site to see what I mean, I need another image at the top right.

S.L.

Many thanks.

Stephen.

Total agreement on fixed-width sites.

On a pristine install of 1.3.6 and the latest "future_zen", I added a body width: 760px; but could use some hints on how to make the header_wrapper with the sliding width background image behave and also how to keep the whole site centered for the wide screen users.

I'd been trying to get the "Sunflower Orange" template to validate, but gave up when I discovered how cleanly future_zen works with the rounded corners!

Excellent work and I look forward to going live with it within the next 21-30 days.

Thanks.

is there a way of adding a new image/logo to the right of the headerYes. You would have to create an includes/templates/future_zen/tpl_header.php file. Then within that create a new div called, say, logo2 immediately after the existing logo div and put your 2nd image in there. Then in your stylesheet you would apply a float:right style to #logo2.

Normally it would be centered by default and changing the width alone wouldn't change that. Do you have a URL?

It's a prototype and will send you a PM with a URL.

Thanks.

Thanks.Many thanks. I've had a quick look at your site and I'm kicking myself as the answer was in your original post. By setting the body width to be 760px you constrain your entire site to fit into the left most 760px, irrespective of how wide the visitors page is.

Instead you need to set the #mainWrapper to be 760px. This wrapper goes around your content (rather than your site) and constrains that to 760px, but it is also centered (at least in modern browsers) and will thus achieve the positioning that you seek.

Good show! I moved the line from body to #mainWrapper and then remarked the line in #mainWrapper that set width: 100%; and all is wonderful.

Thanks.
