Free Template "Future Zen"

Aanii and Good Evening to you!

Wow! I was reading this thread and then at the last post I noticed in your sig line the link for the different zen templates that are available.

Boy is that what I needed right now!

I have been playing with the zen cart for a few days. I'm not a newbie to css and html however I am a newbie to zen cart.

Anyway I could not make up my mind what I wanted to do for a layout. Then I found your fabulous link. And in a few minutes I have the layout up and now am tweeking it for my logo etc.

You are all so wonderful here.

Might I suggest you put the link to that page of templates somewhere where everyone can see it better? Like on the Front page! Seriously I think it would help newbie and experienced people all the more.

Can I refer people from my site to that link? I hope so it is simply awesome!

Thanks everyone who gave their time and talent for that wonderful resource.

Have a marvelous week.
Blessings,
Bluedolphin

http://www.buxombelle.net/shopWhat this tells me is that key documents are missing from your Zen Cart. I can't see any evidence of a template at all now (which is worse than when I last looked) and even some of the template_default files seem to be missing.

I recommend copying the entire set of Zen Cart files into your store directory again. This would not be a complete start over as your configure files will be untouched and hopefully still work, and your database will be untouched also. You may however, need to go into the Admin and point it at the Classic template to get started again.

If that doesn't work, please start a new thread. This one is already over 300 posts long on future Zen alone and can't really bear the weight of a new topic (you'll also get quicker answers from a wider range of people with a fresh appropriately named thread dedicated to your subject).

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Hi there,
just wanted to let you know that this turned out to be a hosting issue, so if anyone else ever has this problem, stamp your feet until your host listens. Fortunately for me I have 2 sites and they were both showing the same error so even though the error appeared to be missing files, they were infact all there, intact and non corrupt. My site had to be moved to another server and it came back up no probs..except if you view it in firefox, then you see nothing!!

Thanks for the quick reply from you guys

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

That's helpful to know. And now I can see evidence of future Zen!

I'd take a look at the code in your links sidebox. It looks as though you may have an image tag that's not closed lurking in there, which is confusing FF.

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Hey guys,
I used the Future Zen template to build my site. I tweaked it pretty heavily and have had a few issues but managed to make it all work.

I am actually wondering if Kuroi or anyone here can give me some advice on another template which is more advanced (and compatible with 1.3.7). I am developing a new version of my site offline and I want to make it durable and versatile while making it as compatible as possible with future releases of ZC.

When I first started developing my site I was advised to steer away from the classic style templates. That was the reason for going with future zen. should I be moving on now?

thanks in advance

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Kuroi,

I am trying to change the size of the text <H2> .greeting ("Welcome Guest! Would you like to log yourself in?") to a few sizes smaller. What part of the CSS would control that, and would changing that CSS change anything else?

If it would change anything else, is there anything I can put into the CSS file to change just that greeting?

Thanks!

Bill

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Ok, I stuck my toe in and this is what I got, I added:

.greeting {
     font-size: 1.2em;
     color: black;
     }

To my Future Zen stylesheet.css and it did the trick. Whew!

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Thanks Kuroi, I am trying to optimize my images now (Some are really bloated!), and I was told by Ryk that Image Handler 2 could do it all on the fly for me, is there any interaction that you know of between Future Zen and the files that are uploaded for Future Zen? I don't want to upload Image Handler 2 and find out it FUBARs my template up <s>.

Thanks!

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Future Zen was deliberately designed to be the first template that didn't change any Zen Cart code. The only file changed is the stylesheet. So you can apply any add-ons you wish with impunity. So long as they work properly and have their own stylesheets where needed (and I don't know of any that don't) they'll play nicely with future Zen.

In the case of Image Handler specifically, it affects product and (I think) category images, but doesn't touch template images, so it won't have any adverse effect on your template. Indeed, I highly recommend this add-on.

Although it is the grandpappy of the 1.3.x templates, it's also bang up to date and despite looking rather different from both the classic template and the template default, it differs from them only in some minor changes to the stylesheet. Making it one of a small group of templates that are very easy to keep up-to-date with each release of Zen Cart (at least the 1.3.x series).

That said however, if you've customized heavily already, you should have enough experience to start your new design from the template_default. Or even, and I am currently doing this, from a completely empty template!

That sounds so daring!
Ha ha. Seriously, I might give that a try.

Thanks for the response Kuroi.

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

I just installed this great template and it looks fine in IE7, but very weird in the latest Firefox. I guess the biggest problem is that the text is not the same size, it is much bigger and looks dorky. Not sure what I did wrong, any ideas?

Also, where in the CSS do I go to change the padding on the Bestsellers tab?
The text is too far to the right.

Attached is a screen shot, thanks.

Hacker:

the same problem with text size.As above, that's no a feature of the template when installed normally. Do you have a link so that we can get to the bottom of it in this case?
