1 attribute for download and 1 for ship to customer

Downloads have no shipping charges ...

Is this both a physical product and a download combination?

Or is this a physical product -- or -- a download choice?

The new v1.3 has a built in feature for Product/Download combos so that there can be shipping for the physical part of the Product but it will still allow for Downloads ...

I have a product that can be either downloaded or shipped to the customer.
I am not sure exactly how to set it up for shipping charge on the physical product and no shipping on the downloadable product.

My main problem is that I can not get shipping to go away when download is selected. I know it must be some setting some where but I can't find it.

If this is a Product that is either a Download or a Shipped Product and not both ...

If the Product weight were 7lbs ... set the weight of the Download to -7 so that the weight would then be 0 and not effect the weight on a Shipping ...

Sorry it took so long to reply but I'm a truck driver and I have been gone all week.

The product is either a download or physical but not both. If you choose us-mail everything works fine. (shipping cost determined by total price of order not by weight of item). When choosing download it goes through the same process, with a shipping cost. is it weight related as I do not have any weights on any of our items?

Should be free ... but then cannot have it break the other shipping methods ... downloads, products, combos, etc.

How come in over 5years no one else has ever complained about this nifty little combo of issues?! :cry:

I can't believe that this combo hasn't come up before. The product is a cross stitch chart (basically a 40 page book) that can be either shipped to the customer or downloaded by the customer, but not both. The shipping costs are determined by the total cost of the order applied against my rates in the zone rates shipping module. (just making sure that I have clearly explained what I want to do)

The way I see this would function is that if the customer selects the radio button for download the shipping module would not be called and if they select the radio button for us-mail it would be called and then used to determine the shipping rate. The only problem I see with that is if the order has some physical products that have to be shipped and some products that are download only. Example: The customer orders a chart for download and some fabric to be shipped to them and both items are on the same order and with the shipping cost based on the total cost of the order:blink: how to separate out the cost of the download item from the total to be able to calculate the shipping on the other part of the order :down: .

My only idea for a work around would be to make the item free shipping (but I don't want it to show free shipping anywhere, you know hidden in the background) and then add the shipping cost back in with the attributes. The only problem with this scenario would be that the customer would not have the benefit of my zone tables for shipping and would end up paying more for s/h if they purchased more than 1 of the charts. It also wouldn't be listed on the invoice under shipping:no: .

Well now that I have gotten that out of my head.......got any ideas? Are you starting to hear the voices too?

I am trying to come up with a logic for Products that are downloads and physical and only reduce the total when the download is selected so the shipping methods by total and item count can work ...

Well what I have decided to do for now is remove the option to process the chart for us-mail through the cart and just have download only. Which works great by the way. I added to my product description a line that reads:

Currently through the website, download as pdf is the only delivery method. If you would like the chart to be mailed to you please contact us for shipping info.
I figure until we come up with a way to solve this problem I'll just process orders for charts that have to be mailed outside of the cart. Hopefully not to many people will want the chart mailed, as we would really not like to use that much ink ( 59 pages for the one chart I got up!)

I just had a problem like yours and I changed the radio buttons to check boxes and it works great. Hope this helps

:no: no joy! Tryed it didn't work and also wouldn't have been good option to use checkbox because then multiple boxes can be checked at same time. My delivery method is either download or mail but not both and the check boxes would let you do both....customers are not that smart would screw it all the time......also still had the problem with the shipping showing up on downoad option. Thanks anyway

What I was doing was having 1 attribute download and one for shipping but I set the shipping at a flat rate price. When I used the raido buttons they were both clicked and it would not let me unclick them. That is when I changed to the check boxes but you have a good point. How do i set it where the buttons are not clicked? Also do you know if i have to set my download folder to 777 or all the products to 777 or both?

If you use radio buttons and both are checked then you do not have your Option Names and Option Values set up correctly ...

You setup 1 Option name with multiple Option Values ... then select 1 of these option values as the default ...

As Radio Buttons, only 1 can be the default ...

Well Linda have any thoughts? I know it makes my head hurt when I think about it. Would changing the shipping method help at all and if it would which one? If your busy with next release stuff ......no hurry:smoke:

I have something that appears to work with all these moofy combos with price and item etc.

As it is made up of a lot of peices and parts ... you will have to test it for your specific needs with the next release ... coming soon to a computer near you ... :cool:

I have the same situation and things are working great for me the way I have it set up. However, which zen version are you using? I'm working with 1.2.6.

Let me know and if you're not using 1.3, then I can probably help.

I'm sorry about my post, I just noticed that you have posted that you're using 1.3. I'm going to be trying it in the next couple of weeks, but don't have any experience yet.
