Maybe a nice idea for a new thread: "Tell us how you got your skills" ?

Re: Ask A Question

Hi there,
I am a newbie to Zen and no php coder - so apologies for that!

I downloaded the module and added it to my site. All fine.
Then I noticed that the Ask a Question button had disappeared from my site - and after much faffing I noticed ellivir's post no26 on 20th Sept 06 - here is a copy of her text
............................................
I figured a kind of a bug out:
if you have edited in admin the Layout for the Product type by switching off model number, weight etc., the text for Ask A Question will not appear!

Settings when it won't appear:
Product Type Info Page Layout options :: Product - General
Title Value Action
Show Model Number 0 Info
Show Weight 0
Show Attribute Weight 0 Info

So, I do not want model numbers etc. visible, how would we make this add-on working in that case?

................................................

**
And that was the answer I was looking for! **I have a Showcase site and do not want to list Model, Weight, etc - in fact none of those switches. The only thing I am displaying is the Product Name and Product Description. **Is there a simple way of making this work for the above? **I am afraid I couldn't work out your answer to ellivir as I am somewhat decrepit with my coding skills and need a bit of hand holding?

Re: Ask A Question

Paulm - your post is FAQ-worthy - but pending that, I have added links for downloading FF and the Web Developer's Toolkit to the Wiki under the list of Tools.

Thanks,
Scott

I just tried to add to the CSS:

textarea{
clear: both;
}

That works like a dream! Thanks!

ask a question can't send email after update from 1.27 to v1.35.

send email and send newsletter work normal.

Re: Ask A Question

I believe raino is correct. Has anyone got this to work correctly with 1.3.5 either with a fresh install or an upgrade?

Thanks,
Scott

Re: Ask A Question

Well, the good news is that I just installed a 1.3.6 test site (no mods except ask a question) and it works perfectly. So this may have been one of the mail bugs that was fixed in 1.3.5 (see changelog for details - Dr Byte said there were a couple). Please also see this wiki page:

I've installed 1.36 and all mail works perfectly however the ask a question mod doesn't work. Ie everything seems fine but I receive nothing. I've tried on php, sendmail and smtp.

I'm using the 1.35 mod updated on 23/9. There's no newer updates other than that. Anyone having the same problems?

Hi Scott-

I just installed your current AAQ on a fresh Zen Cart 1.36 install. After I send a message via the AAQ contact form I observe "Your message has been successfully sent." However I am not receiving the email messages. Although I'm receiving all other email messages sent by the shopping cart.

I did not see anything on the wiki page which addressed my specific issue. Any ideas/recommends?

Re: Ask A Question

Try doing a "Contact Us" and be sure it gets to you. AAQ uses the Contact Us mechanism.

Oops. Didn't have the email client set-up correctly. It works and I like ;-)

BTW it would be a cool feature if the AAQ email subject line could be defined based on which product page the inquiry came from, rather than the generic "Message from My Store" subject line. I see the product is listed in the body of the email but nicer if it could be in the subject. Just a wishlist item ;-)

Re: Ask A Question

What would be required to be selective on which product(s) AAQ is linked to?

TIA.

Thanks, Scott.
That's very helpful.

I'm still trying to figure out why the default AAQ is linked to "Product - General" types.

Perhaps there is a thread somewhere that reveals all, but haven't encountered it thus far in my travels.

TIA.

Re: Ask A Question

Above I may have said:

I'm still trying to figure out why the
default AAQ is linked to "Product - General" types.

Guilty as charged. Didn't read ALL of the code.

The answer is that the tpl_product_info_display.php file seems to hold the alignment with Product - General types.

Re: Ask A Question

Ask A Question users who are also using the button (instead of a text link): be sure to merge the new 1.3.7 includes/languages/english/button_names.php file changes with your customizations.

Re: Ask A Question

Hi swguy,

Just installed the AAQ mod and get the follwoing error when clicking on th eAAQ link:

Warning: require(includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_ask_a_question_default.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /***/template_default/common/tpl_main_page.php on line 119

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_ask_a_question_default.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /***/template_default/common/tpl_main_page.php on line 119

This error was mentioned in a couple of eariler posts but other than "dont bother I uninstalled it", and "....figured out what I did wrong...was my own stupidity...."... no other fix or tip for fixing the problem was noted by the author which isn't a lot of help with other cart owners suffering from 4am brain freeze! :)
