Ask A Question

I recall something in the mod's instructions that said you had to place some code
to use buttons rather than text. Did you make that change?

Took a look at all the instructions and I noticed this time that there was a line missing from the 'readme' file so did some research and added the code that was needed. Now I'm getting two 'ask a question about this product' links without hyphens...and without the image showing up. I obvious added another line of code while going through the 'readme' again methodically, yet overzealously. That I can find and resolve easily enough, but I am still baffled about the image not showing up. :frusty:

You followed these instructions:

Assuming your template name is "custom":

a) copy the button image into includes/templates/custom/buttons/english
(create this directory if it doesn't exist).

b) create includes/languages/english/custom/button_names.php if you have not
already done so,
from includes/languages/english/button_names.php

Add the lines
define('BUTTON_IMAGE_ASK_A_QUESTION','button_ask_question.gif');
define('BUTTON_ASK_A_QUESTION_ALT', 'Ask a question');

to this file.

Then, in tpl_product_info_display.php, your code would be:

I've got this mod to the point where a link appears with 'ask a question about this product', but can't seem to get the image to appear. Have added image as directed so not sure what else to try.

First let me apologize if this has been asked before... I have searched the thread and can't find what I need.

I just installed AAQ and I don't seem to be able to get it to work. I don't see anything different on any of the product info pages. Basically I don't see any changes to the software at all. No image file or anything like that.

I have followed the instructions as well as I can. The last entry in the readme file said to insert some code but it was not specific about where it should be inserted. This might be where I am having problems.

This mod seems like it is just what I am looking for so I would really appreciate any help.

The default installation assumes your template is named "custom" - is it? If not, you'll need to move the template and button files under your template.

Hi and thanks for the reply. Yes, I renamed the template name in the zip file to match the name of my custom template.

Ok... after some digging and scratching I have now got the mod to the point where it displays a "text" link for "ask a question". All I need to do now is get the image to work... If anyone has any ideas, please let me know... I will be working on it.

Update: I found the "ask a question" sidebox and tried that. It is working good so I am going to stick with that for now. If anyone knows how to get the image to work in the first AAQ I would like to know.

Ask A Question 1.8 has just been posted to the download area - easier installation, only one file to edit. Hope this is helpful.

I've just upgraded my cart to 1.3.8 and installed Ask a Question. It seems to be sending fine but the email is not being received. Any suggestions on what to check?

Ask them to check their spam folder first. Otherwise, there's a FAQ tutorial on tracing down mail problems with a zillion things to check; you just have to go through a process like this to track it down.

I've already checked the spam folders.

Do you have a link to the FAQ or can you tell me where to find it?

Ok, I found the FAQ checked out all the different mail settings available and it still do not receive the questions emails.

I can't get it to work so I'm just going to take it out instead of stressing over it. :-)

or is there something else I should do? because all the linked AAQ pages include the product id in the URL.

Whoops nevermind.....I see the <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow" /> in the head of the page

Thanks for this great mod. Works wonderfully on my 1.3.8a install.

The only problem I am having is with SSL. I have my contact_us page setup to be secure, but with this ask a question mod, it is not secure and I would like it to be. How would I go about getting the form secure when ask a question is chosen instead of contact us?

You probably shouldn't do this - both AAQ and Contact Us send clear text email to the store owner. Making the page https just gives the user a false sense of security that he can do something like type in a credit card number.

This may sound very basic, as I'm very new to ZC.
In the "Ask a Question" ReadMe file, is says:

Upload files.
==========="

Where should I upload them?
I tried uploading the whole folder named "ask_1.8" (as is) to the medule folder, but it didn't work.

I also tried to upload the files of the module individually, to their folders on the server, while keeping their same location that they came in (in the module folder).

I see a placeholder of the button at the bottom of the product description, please take a look here:

but it's not working. I also tried to go to the admin / email options, but couldn't find the option that allows me to enable the "ask a question" feature.

Any help would be highly appreciated!

The admin entries are obsolete; the instructions you were looking are describe how to get rid of them.

You want to upload the files to the same location on the server. Get it working with just a link first and then move to the button.
