Re: Easy embed template

ogie56:

yes, I understand that but what I'm saying is when I put this , <div id="content"><!-- START EMBED -->

<!-- END EMBED --> In the shop.html body it does not link to the zencart which is in my root so in the embed_cfg it should be: $zc_temp = 'shop.html';and that is inside common folder so what this is does is when i go to to my website in my nav. i create a link to shop.html and it should show zen cart in the body , which i take your basic stylesheet and redesign that to match my other html pages and everthing is good. but some how I'm not getting how to link it right . because if i create a link to zencart there would be no reason to make the shop.html or what ever you want to call it ,and you would just have an external link ,which is what i was doing . . thank's for your help and sorry i called it a mod.

:unsure:One more observation.. The WSIWYG tool you are using to create your site is not properly creating the HTML file you need to get this template to work.. If you are NOT familiar with writing your own HTML this is going to be a bit of an issue, and not an issue that I think you are going to easily get around on your own.. So I hope you don't mind a suggestion.. I was looking at your site, and I am curious as to why you don't just have a go at creating the WHOLE thing in ZenCart.. I didn't see anything in your site that couldn't be EASILY created in ZenCart..

the irony of this was this program was originally created to work w/ wysiwygs. so that a code less graphic designer could update the site easily w/o having to know html (after some one set up the samg_embed for them). it just happened to turn out that it was good for code monkeys as well.

I think the issue is his WYSIWYG editor is not allowing him to access the source code to properly include the code needed to get this template to work.. I was looking at his Cart, and it is repeating the header and footer.. Looks like the template code is embedded in two locations.. Hmmmmm...

I still think you would be WAYYYYY better off doing this whole site in ZenCart.. Just a thought.. But good luck to you either way..

  1. I don't think you need Joomla for your particular site.. You really can do EVERYTHING you are trying to do in ZenCart. You can use the defined pages and EZ pages to create all of the "non shopping" content.
  2. Go back and look at the link I posted (it's on page 14). IF you decide to go with Joomla (a step I don't think you need to do), you don't HAVE to use VirtueMart. The link I posted is a Joomla main site with a ZenCart for shopping.. I used THIS template contrib to tie both together esthetically.

Now that said, (and please do not take this the wrong way) I gather that you are not very experienced with HTML and such (hence the need for the WYSIWYG tool) this is not a slam.. just an observation.. If you are at the level skill wise that I think you are at, combining Joomla with ZenCart is a LOT of work, and you are gonna have to have some GOOD understanding/experience with CSS to make it LOOK & feel seemless.. That said I had a few tricky areas on my site where I that I had to turn to greater CSS experts for help..

IMO you should REALLY give a looksee at doing your entire site in ZenCart.. I've seen NOTHING in your current site that gives me the sense that this is not a viable solution..

Re: Easy embed template

DivaVocals, and ogie56,
I think the dialog is greate here about the WYSIWIG, and I will be adding an istall requirement to the Read only about haveing a mark up file with a flexable height. in the embed cell.
But the discussion of weather or not ogie56 needs to use an addtioanl CMS for his site, is not really on topic w/ this thread, and I dont want to have to make people who read the whole thread have to read rabit trails.
So if you would kinly move to another thread for this conversation it would be cool.
look I alread started it here http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?p=539625

look I alread started it here http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?p=539625I actually wasn't suggesting that he use another CMS for his site at all. If you re-read my posts, you'll see that what I WAS suggesting is that he use ZenCart for his ENTIRE site.. I also suggested that IF he used Joomla for his main site, that this template contrib was a great way to tie the two programs together esthetically.. (It's what I did with the site link I posted earlier in this thread -- if you recall, ogie --and you-- both asked for examples of this contrib in action.. I posted a site which happens to be a Joomla site using this template to tie the two together..) While my suggestion for ogie to use ZenCart to do his entire site is probably off topic for this thread, with all due respect, I do think that the rest of my suggestions are still on topic. Even if my comments do mention Joomla, I was simply offering ideas on how THIS template could be used if he went that route.. It was after all the SAME dilemma I was trying to resolve when I decided to use this contrib to solve the SAME problem.. (I was building a Joomla site and needed a way to use ZenCart with it instead of Virtuemart)

I thought it was a VERY good example of one of many creative uses for this template..

Honestly you don't need a lot of templates. Find a template that is CLOSE to what you want, and then take your time and get to know CSS. With good graphics and managing the CSS, you'll be able to create all kinds of stuff and make the template uniquely your own.. or start with the barebones template and create your own unique template, OR use this template to create something REALLY unique.. I still strongly recommend that you have a go at doing your entire site in ZenCart.. The Joomla/ZenCart combo using this contrib as your ZenCart template is not for the faint of heart (or HTML newbies -- no disrespect meant by this), and IMO it requires you to know how to cut your own HTML (and not use a WYSIWYG tool). Either way you decide to go with this, I wish you luck with your site..

A good place to start for templates that you can use w/ this mode is https://www.oswd.org.
but you need to take the time to learn CSS or html to do this well.
I don't think that the sang embed template is right for you.
It would take any good html/css dev up to 4 hours to, integrate http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=281 in to your site.
The hardest part would be to get the easy pages header working with the you template, but really just because it would require working of the sudo classes.
If you want help w3schools.com is a great place to start.
Also the firebug plugin for fire fox is helpful as well.

** I don't think that the sang embed template is right for you.**I do agree Josh.. I LOVE your template, and I personally have MANY plans for MANY uses of it.. but I think that the sang embed template really is not the right template for the do-it-yourself type of store owner with little to no HTML/CSS experience. (again no offense meant at all ogie..) I think this is made clear in some of your earlier posts in this thread.. I don't think it necessarily requires a code monkey to use this template, but certainly one must be familiar with HTML/CSS to successfully use this template..

Re: Easy embed template

sigh i don't know - it's easy to get frustrated when you sit at the computer all day, and your back aches and your eyes hurt, and you lose all logic and reason - but i don't get it .. i added a #content to my CSS in the shop.html .. and that didn't really change anything .. am i missing something - i am a bit slow, lol i don't see my background or my main container .. my logo and nav bar are absolutely positioned to the the main container as reference point. and of course i don't see my background or header and footer ..... T___T

You've got some more work to do though.. The reason it doesn't look pretty or align correctly is because now that you've got the template configured, you still have to edit/modify the template's CSS to get ZenCarts look to match the rest of your site's layout and design.. This template just makes it easy to slip ZenCart into your existing site.. You still have to adjust the CSS to finish the look..
