Easy embed template

Bumblebunny: Here's a sample of a site I am using this template with to get the gist of what I am saying.. Once I set up ZenCart & installed this template, I had to edit the ZenCart CSS file so that the store matched the main site..
**Site: **http://clients.overthehillweb.com/phlaunthair
**Store: **http://clients.overthehillweb.com/phlaunthair/phflauntshop/

Re: Easy embed template

well i tried editing the CSS after installing the template, and i couldn't get the background to change, or the containers - right now i have selected a template i was working on without the Easy Embed, and I have managed to change a lot of the CSS to get it to look closer to my parent site https://www.scotty-valentine.com/zencart
I thought it would be a lot quicker with the Easy Embed, but I'm finding that I'm having more issues modifying the CSS with it then without - so I've reverted back ... I wish it had worked out better, it seemed so promising because I have very little experience in code. Your site turned out really great Diva - maybe you can give me some tips on how to fix some of the issues I'm experiencing!

There was no need to revert.. The Easy Embed template is like ANY OTHER ZenCart template.. Once you install it, you need to use a combination of admin control modifications and CSS modifications to get the site layout the way you want it to look.. There's NO WAY to build ONE template that fits EVERYONE'S layout.. All the Easy Embed template will do is make it easy to wrap your outside site design around ZenCart. After that you have to change to colors, the fonts, the graphics, etc.. In short you will be building your Zen Cart stylesheet from scratch to match your existing site after you install the Easy Embed template.. This is pretty much what you are doing right now with the Classic Zen template.. If you would like to test this, copy the CSS file you are working on to your sang_embed CSS folder. Then select the Easy Embed template and you'll see what I mean..

Your site turned out really great Diva - maybe you can give me some tips on how to fix some of the issues I'm experiencing! :blush:Thanks, but my site came about from some VERY hard work to modify the CSS to match the look & feel of the main site.. It was tedious and sometimes frustrating, but I have three tools that were my guide:

  1. The ZenCart tutorials/FAQ - Loaded with good answers and basic tips for modifying ZenCart.
  2. http://www.w3schools.com/ - This site is a WEALTH of information. It helped me with MANY of my CSS related questions with regard to proper syntax and use of styles.. Plus it has a great "try it" tool that lets you test your CSS and HTML to make sure you get the desired result..
  3. This site.. I found MANY of my answers by searching this forum.. There were only a few questions that I needed to post on the stylesheet forum, but for the most part, I found my answers by tenaciously searching this forum..Honestly if you want to make ANY ZenCart template look great you need to have some knowledge of CSS.. (or some REALLY GOOD CSS resources) There are a FEW admin controls that govern layout, but after that most of the look & feel is a function of the stylesheet.. The best tip I can give you is to get to know CSS..

Re: Easy embed template

One last tip.. The Firefox Developer Toolbar is a great tool.. I often used it to isolate sections of the cart to determine which styles I needed to modify..

Re: Easy embed template

Hello, all.

First off, this is a great mod. Thanks for the time and effort you put into it!

I was successfully able to get it installed. I am doing a site for a guy who sent me a Photoshop template that he purchased and wanted me to use -- yes, that means tables (ugh). So I have constructed the site with a combination of tables/CSS. My question... will this mod work properly with a table-based layout, or am I toast? Here is the page after only a few tweaks in the admin: http://www.familymusicservice.com/store/. As you can see, some of my table cells are missing some backgrounds. I haven't spent a ton of time trying to figure it out yet, but I thought I would first ask your opinion if you thought it was a lost cause or not.

Many thanks,
Scott

Re: Easy embed template

Please disregard my previous post. The reason for the layout issues was a stupid oversight on my part. Since I moved my store.html page inside the cart directory, I just needed to update the relative URLs for some of the background images. It seems to work great now; I just need to fix some other CSS issues and then I can customize the cart workings itself.

Thanks again for a great add-on!!

Re: Easy embed template

sanguisdesign:

they easiest way to get back to the home page is to put a link to it in the template say to the /index.html.
as for brian21's post different strokes you know. the reason I don't have one static page that you edit is because I have written the Sanguine Easy Embed for more then just zen cart. I have mods for Phorum, Drupal, and Gallery 2. it works so that I can control all of the templates w/ one document. other wise it would be easy to just say edit the template.php file.
happy hacking,
JOsh

Would it be possible to get a hold of that Phourm mod? It'd sure save me a whole lot of headache to avoid having to hack together a shared template for Phorum and Zen Cart.

Really nice mod, by the way. Thanks a lot for this.

the beta is expeimental and make cause you more hell then its worth.

JOsh

I'm interested in seeing the changes from your stable version though...

sanguisdesign:

So I have just finally uploaded to the downloads section. And it has a pretty new read me file w/ how to form urbanix.
other then that there are no changes.

JOsh

Is the downloads section part of this forum site?

I tried to use svn checkout http://sanguineeasyembedtemplale.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ sanguineeasyembedtemplale but I don't get the tree of files that you can see with their browser. What is the name to checkout? sang_embed? zencart?
They're empty when trying a svn co.

Re: Easy embed template

Does anyone know the directory/files for the php and html code specified in this post?

I looked at some of the websites listed. This is what I'm trying to do but this posting isn't very specific.

Re: Easy embed template

This worked pretty well for me. Thank you. I just used added the common pages to my template, from I think version 1.2 beta?

embed_config.php
tpl_main_page.php
html_head.php

After modifying embed_config.php with:

$zc_temp = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/shop.htm';

Note: The zencart stylesheet.css will override your footer generic styles, so you might need to add some class names.

Sorry about that. because of the multi environmental manner of the sang embed code I have started a wiki page that has the locations for the different projects. (http://code.google.com/p/sanguineeasyembedtemplale/wiki/repoMap)
The the trunk is reserved for the eventual editing of the sang_magic, and (conceptual) sang_config_options files.
sorry about the confusion.

Really nice mod, by the way. Thanks a lot for this.

I have to say when I wrote the forum template I was subcontracting for another company and no longer have access to the files. how ever creating a easy embed template for a project seems to take little more knowledge then installing it.
For the phorum branch , I remember it tool learning a bit of the Smarty Template System and doing a couple includes. it only took about an hour really. So it shuld be do able.

Re: Easy embed template

I did find one problem using the embed. The shop has a base tag and the embed file has a base tag. The embed file base tag superceded and you may have guessed, the shop couldn't find it's pics.

I had to remove the base tag from the embed file and make all src/href paths start with ../.

Yuck!

I don't know the term "base tag" you have to to explain better. Also when you say 'embed file' do you mean you mark up to be embedded?

Re: Easy embed template

Repo. is the common abbreviation for a version control repository. sorry.

also, unless Google has programed their http servers to see a linking to a repo via a browser as an svn export. clicking on the link for SVN repos wont work.

Re: Easy embed template

urbanx:

oh yeah, now i remember what i came to this thread for.

i've run into a small problem with the template. the problem is related to the fact that the template puts a ../ in front of all links in the html file to make them work. this works great UNLESS you have a mailto link.

the mailto link now reads http://www.site.com/mailto:[email protected]

any ideas how to deal with this?

thanks,

d.Disclaimer: I KNOW that it's not recommended to use "mailto" links.. As a practice I do not use them for my client's sites, and opt for a contact forum instead.. I already went through the CONS of this with my client and the Flash designer.. However, the Flash designer still wanted his site credit pointing to an e-mail address.. sigh

So that said here's how to fix the above issue:
Comment out the following lines in your "embed_config" file as follows:.

//JTS replace hrefs to point above catalog, but not the href for the style sheet! or http links!
//$sitetemplate=preg_replace('/href="/si', 'href="../', $sitetemplate);
//$sitetemplate=preg_replace('/href="..\/..\//si', 'href="../', $sitetemplate);
//$sitetemplate=preg_replace('/href="..\/http/si', 'href="http', $sitetemplate);

I probably didn't have to comment all three lines out, but since I didn't know which specific line in this code block governs the replacement of the "mailto" links, I commented them all out, and tested my site.. So far everything is still working..
