information box seems cut in half?

I have been messing around with the stylesheets, and so far everything nearly looks right except for the information box.

For some reasn (and its been like it for a while) it has lost the right side, and I have no idea why.

I assume it must be the style sheet thats doing it, but at the same time,all other boxes are perfect.

Anyone know whats different about the information box at all?

ok, so I have replaced all the common files with the default Zen ones and also the CSS, no change so thats ruled them out.

I figured it out, though I donot understand why it happened.

In admin the box width is set to 172px. All but the information box display this without issue.

I edited the style sheet and set the width fr sideboxcontent to 161 and now its perfect, set it in style sheet to 172 (as it is in admin) and it goes of the screen.

No idea why this is the case, but its working.

You've got four errors in the CSS, one of which may be part of the problem.
Lines 26, 46, 580, and 666.

I did a check with Dreamweaver on the css, and it found sweveral locations where I had the font enclosed with quotes.

I removed these, but still I have the same issue with the information box.

The problem seems t depend on various factors.

1st, in fireforx it is not a problem at all.

In IE, if I alter the width setting on tthe following CSS, I either have a cut in half information content box, or I have a cut in have categories heading and information heading. I cant fathom it out. I have tried adding width to the following three tables, and if I do it to all three, the left box titles are cut, if I remove it from one or another the information content is cut.

What on earth am I doing wrng here.

how do yu validate the css. I tried using firefox to do it but it fails, says therre is an error on the xhtml that needs fixed first.

ok I have now managed to get the full information box cntents to display, sadly a new issue has arrisen.

The information box links are sort of justified, in that most only fit on a single line, but 2 of them are sitting side by side, also, the bigger issue, I have changed the font colour to white as this is what the client wants, and of course I cannot see these links now.

Man I so suck at CSS.

My index file is the stock one and has not been altered at all.

Then maybe some magician removed it from your root?

oh ha ha, lol, well, given I can get to the site I pretty much ruled that oe out, call me a novice if you will, but that seemed a logical assumption.

I have played and played with the css, nothing I do seems to make any different to the information content area, the links are there, if I move the mouse over they go black, but they are not visible, and site map and contact us are both on the same line.

I even put in the stock css file, and though the links returned to being visible, the site map and contact were still on the same line, and also I again suffered from the partly cut of information?

It has to be a file, surely, but I also replaced the information tpl and the modules information files, still nothing worked.

Are there any other dependant files I have perhaps missed.

I replaced the entire system with new files, and used my existing css.

Part of my problem appeared to be because I edited the information.php file and removed some of the links manually, the effect being half the text was cut off in the remaining links.

I used this method in osc and as it appeared similar assumed it would work, sadly not

Restored the files and worked on at least centering the text in the information box using the css.

No prblem with getting it centered but again, I lose the end of the text n the longer links. its almost as if the box the text is in is not large enough.

Your sig says your forte is not css but you will need to get familiar with it or become its victim.
If you install FireFox with its Web Developer's Extension and (my new favorite) Firebug, you'll be able to prevent things from taking over your site.

Right now, the categories mod you added has ten css errors just on the main page.

You have typos in your stylesheet.css on lines 187 and 293 -- both dealing with margins.

Firefox and the extensions mentioned will enable you to find and repair without having to be a css guru.

I do have the developer plugin for firefox, the problem is that in firefox it displays correctly, with the exception that the text inthe categories is not vertical aligned to center like it is in IE.

IE: - cut off information, all else looks ok
FF: Category text not vertical aligned to center, all else worksing ok.

Go figure that one?

get firebug for firefox and you will find that there are two css errors in the stylesheet_betterCategories.css that specifically deal with vertical align. (lines 35 and 48)

Repaired (removed) those lines, I give up on this, I cant seem to find the cause.

I installed the firebug, and in all honesty it does not help me at all.

When I scroll through and expand the information table it all looks fine, cant see anything wrong in the display, other than the div tag has no name?

The categories box does appear to be higher than the colours, which is why the text does not seem centered, cant seem to figure that one out either.

Forgot to mention that Firebug has to be started by hitting F12 or form the View menu, select Status Bar.

ok, installed it, F12. Looks real neat, exept the only 1 big problem with it is that in fireworks the site looks just about fine, so as far as its concerned its not got anythihng wrong with it,

I dont get it.In fireworks categories are off, in IE categories are fine but information is off.

did you load the latest bettercategories mod or one before June?
