Ultimate SEO URLs
Not really, if for some reason the htaccess is changed and makes Zen unable to find the files it needs to init, you will also be asked to installed again.

Happens to the best of us ... did you get Ultimate URLs uninstalled?
I did uninstall it, but I installed it again.
The thing I don't like about it is that the *.html file names generated are not as user friendly as I'd like. I would image that this can be tweaked. I have to take more time to look at it.
What I want is the *.html file to have the products name and that's it. No id or such as *p-12.html. I, nor noone else will remember that.
thanks for asking.

The product id is crucial, without it, ZC will stop working.

Yellow's right.
This part of the url is what actually get's you to the product:
p-12.html
Watch, give this a try ...
The url for a product is normally outputted by Zen like this:
baby-blue-jeans-p-12.html
But you can manually edit that url to say:
i-am-just-a-test-p-12.html
And it will take you to the same product. The only part of the url that is essential is the part you happen to not like .
The rest of the url is meaningless to Zen.

This is a great contribution. Very easy to set up and configure.
I have read through the 13 pages within this thread but I haven't found an answer as yet to my question.
Versions:
ZC 1.3.8a
Ultimate SEO URLs 2.106 for Zen Cart 1.3.8
Everything seems to be working fine with the exception of the way categories are not being added to the actual browser URL.
In Configuration > SEO URLs
I have set: 'Add category parent to beginning of URLs' to true.
I can see that on a hover for a product that the category is in the URL so this part seems to be working fine as in storedomain.com/category/product-1.html .
Once the link is clicked - the actual URL in the browser is storedomain.com/product-1.html leaving out the category. (My store by the way is not in a sub-folder, it is installed at the root of the domain.)
1.) Is this how Ultimate SEO is supposed to work or is it supposed to be adding the category to the URL that is visible in the browser address?
2.) If the category IS supposed to be showing in both the hyperlink AND the browser address bar, does anyone have a fix for this?
I did see this information this thread but I am not sure that my issue is similar to this...

Hello all,
I have some trouble with SEO after i upload source code from my PC to Host ! I edit all path, .htaccess and everything work fine with zen 138 (i update from 136 into 138 and test in my PC and upload into host to test again).
In home page , everything work fine. But after i click into any link , it will forward to /shop/install....
What is going on and how to fix this trouble? I check .htaccess and everything is correct like the first time.
Thanks you !

There's a setting, something like a header redirect ... try turning that off. Can't remember off hand, as I haven't used the module in months.
Maybe Yellow can chime in.
I wasn't able to find anything called header redirect but I did try toggling 'enable automatic redirects' and also reset SEO URLs cache a few times to see if that would work.
No luck so far.
Thanks!

Hi,
My problem is slightly different. Everything seems to work beautifully except for the url that is generated. Instead of fairy-in-the-moon-p-952470.html i actually get fairyinthemoon-p-952470.html
Every page is the same - the name of the item runs into one long word - i.e. nemesisnightfairysittingontreestump-p-9524182.html any ideas at all?
regards
Lyn

I am getting ready to install ultimate seo url for 1.3.8a on my test store.
I have a 1.3.7 live store installed in the root directory and I have my test store installed in a /test/ directory.
Where do I put the .htaccess file that comes with install? And I guess I change the /shop/ to /test/.... ???
I just want to make sure nothing interferes with my live site.
Mucho Gracias!

I did a test like this for a client and set /shop/ to /test/ and put the .htaccess file in /test/ . Everything worked fine.

I have installed USU on 1.3.8a.
When I nav to a category and then to a particular item within that category, there is a little bread crumb at the top of the product with the name of the category. But when you click on that breadcrumb to get back to the category, the link takes you back to the store's main page rather than the category... How do I fix that?
For example:
Categories
Balls
Bowls
Toys
If I go to Balls, it lists all of the different products in that category. And if I then choose one of the items listed in that category... rubber balls. It takes me to that product. But at the top of that product is the link Balls. If I click on that, it doesn't go back to the Balls category, it goes to the store's main page.
Thanks

Hi all,
I just installed this...but before I read all this. So...what's the bottom line? Good idea or bad??
Thanks,

Hi,
Everywhere I have the ™ symbol I'm getting this  in the url.
Is there anything I can do about this? I see there is something for special characters. What is that?
Thanks,
Kelly

RobM:
I am also having the same problem - even though i've got this plugin working fine on another Zen Cart install.
Any ideas? I've uploaded the files and .htaccess as normal.
I didn't see any response to either of these posts. I'm having the same problem, getting a 404 page not found message when I click on any category or sub-category.
I don't completely understand the instructions regarding the .htaccess file, but I'm not sure if that's what's causing the 404 error. Is it actually supposed to look just like that, with no real name, just 'htaccess' as the file extension, or is it supposed to be htaccess.php, or do we give it any name we want, like satinbutton.htaccess?
Also, are we supposed to replace \shop\ with the name of the file in zencart where the shop is located, or the url filepath? I tried putting 'public_html', but the 404 error message said it couldn't find \public_html\index.php on the server. I tried replacing it with thesatinbutton.com, which would fit with the actual url. I got the 404 error saying that it could not find \thesatinbutton.com\index.php on the server, which doesn't make any sense since you can copy this directly into the server and get to my site...
Obviously I'm missing something here. It's the middle of the night and I'm tired... Usually it's something obvious that comes to me the next day, but any help would be much appreciated!

Hi k4satin,
You must have the htacess file. It has to be named .htacess noting else. no php html or other name or it will not work. I installed this yesterday on one of my sites. http://www.sleeplessnightsonline.com (be warned adult lingerie, toys etc.)
Rename htacess_sample to .htacess and upload it.
You will also have to add the following:
RewriteEngine on
replace https://www.MYSITE.COM with your website address.
be sure to add any extra paths required to locate the index.php
then relocate this file to the root of your store's folders, and rename it as .htaccess
ErrorDocument 404 http://www.MYSITE.COM/index.php?main_page=page_not_found
I hope this helps.

Thanks for responding and clarifying the .htaccess name. (it does have 2 c's, right?). I think I've done everything you said, but am still getting the same error. My .htaccess file reads:
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /www.thesatinbutton.com/
It's in the same folder where admin/ and includes/ folders are found, just as it is in the ultimate seo url download.
http://www.thesatinbutton.com/index.php goes directly to my home page when typed in the url field (works without /index.php as well, of course).
I'm using zen 1.3.7, and seo urls v2.105. I copied the 1.3.7 specific files and replaced my existing ones (kept back-ups). Are there any changes in the other files from v2.105 to v2.106? I started out using v2.106, then realized I should use v2.105 since I haven't upgraded to 1.3.8 yet. I'm not sure if the non zen-version-specific files I have uploaded were from v2.106 or v2.105...
Any other ideas?

Hi k4satin,
I'm sorry...yes 2c's.
It should go in your root I believe. Not in the admin.
public_html/.htaccess
My entire .htaccess file is below.

replace https://www.MYSITE.COM with your website address.
be sure to add any extra paths required to locate the index.php
then relocate this file to the root of your store's folders, and rename it as .htaccess

order allow,deny
allow from all

Thanks. I did find that part and changed it to what you had (although that's not what the directions say). I also added the following that I copied from your file (and adapted to my site):
**ErrorDocument 404 http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?ma...page_not_found
<Files 403.shtml>
order allow,deny
allow from all
</Files>**
My document, from the sample file, had started with the next line after this, ##### NOTE:...
I also re-uploaded functions/html_output.php. I might have missed that one when uploading, but I didn't actually check the server, so I'm not sure if that made a difference or not.
Anyway, with these changes together, it now seems to work! Thank you very much for your help.

Is anyone having trouble with links in the ZC admin area? i.e. Edit Orders button, REFRESH on the Who's Online page?
My admin folder is not the default. When I click on MANY links in the admin, I get the homepage with an obscure url. If I turn SEO URLs off, the admin section works perfectly. Turn it back on and the problem reappears.
