I live in the UK and I suspect my mobile provider doesn't offer this service, however I have signed up with an SMS gateway and it works perfectly, it means that I have to pay for the texts but it's worth it.

I tried to add an extra line to your code to include the number of items purchased but it didn't work, i used $order->products[$i]['qty']. Could you tell me what variable I would have to use to add the number of products purchased?

This would not be so much a rework as a complete rewrite from scratch. Of course, you would also need to capture the SMS to email gateway address at registration time. But yes, it could certainly be done.

I would like to change the output of the sms to:

Name: [First name] [last name]
Products: Violin Bow
Payment Method: Paypal
Total: $193.90

At the moment the code is: $email_text = $order->customer['firstname'] . " " . $order->customer['lastname'] . "\n" . $order->info['total'] . "\n";

wat do I need to add to get the output i want?

You only have 140 characters to work with, so it's a bit risky to do things like list products.

Zen Cart operators outside the US who do not have an email to SMS gateway as part of their mobile service may wish to use Twitter as a mechanism to generate SMS messages when a sale occurs. Instructions for integrating the Twitter API into SMS on Sale are provided in the SMS on Sale Help Page at

Of course you would want to use a Twitter account which is not on the public timeline.

I just installed this on a 1.3.8 site, and it works great, but includes the Can-Spam footer that comes with 1.3.8 (Didn't see that in .7) and I'm not sure how to turn it off. It turns a short text into a longer 2 part one that I'm sure I'll get charged more for.

Any thoughts?

i think i get this too i just upgraded yesterday to 1.3.8a and when i get an order, text comes in and a whole thing about i sent this message to myself blah blah blah. what can we look at to get rid of this added on junk

thanks i just made the change to the functions email file

i did the change now i get a lil > at the top left of the page i have cornered the problem to the change i made to this functions_email file yesterday and i'll see if i can redo the change.

redid the code change works good now i must of added a space or something to the code

OK I set everything up as directed, and using Twitter... but somehow the sales are posted to my Twitter page as updates from myself and nothing is coming to my phone, since the updates are coming from me. What do I need to do to make the messages come to my phone?

Also why are the Twitter sale SMS so short compared to the SMS on sale ones? All I get is the customer's name and the sale amount. Nothing that says Order Received or anything else.

I see the documentation is not perfectly clear on this point. You need to create a special Twitter account for your store, and then follow that account from your regular Twitter account (with mobile notifications on). Not sure why your text is truncated though.

I will need 2 Twitter accounts? How do I configure each one and which info do I put in the msg_owner file?

YAY! I played around with twitter (which I had never heard of until I downloaded this mod) and got it to work, that my shop account can send messages to my personal account and I receive those on my phone. Now to figure out the email content issue.

I'm working on updating the doc now. Yes, that's all you get is first name, last name and amount. Some people have added various things to the message, but remember you're constrained to 140 characters.

Twitter just got a big cash injection so hopefully they'll improve the reliability of the service.

If I'd like it to send me, say:

Order Received!
Order #xxx
Amt: $100 (or 100€, or whatever)
From: customer name

How would I set that up?
