"ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Clyde,

An HTML rendering problem persists in my Define Pages. When I place text between<strong></strong>within <p></p> parameters, the bold effect does not work. However, the <strong></strong> command does render text in bold within the ordered and unordered lists, and did so even when the lists didn't show numbers or bullets.

For example, on https://www.gokaraokemachine.com, the last paragraph on my main page has utilized the <strong></strong> codes to make "More Information" and "Gift Certificate" bold text; however, there is no effect at all.

I'm not sure what type of code to look for here, or where to place any CSS to affect text within a paragraph. Thanks for any suggestions.

open includes/templates/zencart_zen/css/stylesheet.css

find the following declaration and delete the highlighted portion:

p { padding:0 0 0.8125em 0; color:#444; font-weight: 300;}

In which browser are you viewing this? It appears to render as expected in FF, IE7/8 and Opera.

I'm not sure why Chrome and Safari aren't picking it up.

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Thanks, Clyde. I now see the bold type in my HTML paragraph.

My WAMP server defaults to viewing in Firefox, which I had not noticed did render the <strong></strong> within the <p></p> HTML code correctly. The failed code occurred when I was viewing my online site with Google Chrome.

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Clyde,

With elkbow's help, I now see some test products in my cart.

You will see the wrap-around-the-image effect that occurs when a product is individually viewed. While this is a neat effect, it does not work with my ordered list of songs, as the margin overlaps the picture, and also as it does not stay in a straight line as a list should.

As I indicated previously, I believe this occurred after installation of Image Handler. However, I have not been successful bringing up the straight list I used to see after your assistance initially with getting the numbers to show under product description.

Thanks for taking a look and for your thoughts.

You appear to be using the default product info page and not the one that comes with the zencart zen template.

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Clyde,

I would have thought turning on the template in 1.3.9f would have turned on all of the pages. This is occurring both in my WAMP test server and online, so it is likely not a problem with the transfer to my online server.

I am guessing I should identify a file to re-upload, and will see if I can identify the file when I have a chance to examine the template folders. I suppose this is the time to see if there is an Image Handler file that maybe took precedence over the template folder, so I will try my hand at WinMerge to see if that is the case, and let you know. I haven't had the nerve yet to uninstall Image Handler to see if things change, but the file comparison might be less fraught with possibility of error.

Thanks.

You'll be looking for includes/templates/zencart_zen/templates/tpl_product_info.php

The one that is included in the zencart_zen package.

compare that to the one currently on your live site.

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Clyde,

Thanks for the file name.

The last template I installed is the source of the conflict, apparently. It is the Ceon Back-in-Stock Notification module 2.6.0. The template override files contains an includes/templates/zencart_zen/templates/tpl_product_info_display.php which is the active file.

I assume I either merge that file with the Zencart_Zen template file of the same name/location, or pick one or the other.

I believe the same substitution of files is in effect on my 1.3.8a site at https://www.riverfrontsouth.com.

I really have no experience with merging files and am uncertain as to what course of action would solve my margin problem which supercedes everything else on this site's product page, because I don't really expect to run out of stock on this https://www.gokaraokemachine.com site. That's a really great module, though, because the default notification module does not fit my site's purpose at all.

I guess I should look at that module and see what else might have been replaced. When I have evaluated modules for overriding files, I actually never thought of looking at the Zencart_Zen template itself. This is quite a revelation to me.

Thanks for your help.

The attached has the merged file(s);

just unzip the package and upload the entire includes folder to your server where you have zen cart installed.

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Clyde,

I didn't expect such wonderful help. Not only does the "fix-up" really fix the layout, but it gives me the kind of model that I find most helpful to study and try to see what was done so I can comprehend what WinMerge actually does or could do, and maybe how things are ordered in a template. But I can take my time studying while my site actually takes a civilized format that it had before adding Ceon's module, and it let's me keep the module.

I am sure you can appreciate how wonderful it was for me to look forward to another few days of trial and error and then suddenly just download something that instantly gave the results I was striving for. A rare experience that promises some insight after study, too.

I hope it didn't take you forever to meld the two stylesheets, as it would me, most likely, with lots of trial and error.

I hope this will help others who would like to use both the Zencart_Zen template as well as the Ceon Back-in-Stock Notification module.

Thank you very much for your wonderful help.

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

CORRECTION: I see on evaluating my database in PHPMyAdmin that the Notageek.fix-up actually uninstalled the Ceon Back-in-Stock Notifications module, as it is now gone from my configuration_group table in the MySQL database.

I originally thought that it had been retained, and the style files had been merged, which was found erroneous on further checking.

The module removal seems the best approach for my site. Thanks again, Clyde.

It made no changes to the database.

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Clyde,

I would appreciate your opinion as to the best way to separate my hardware and software categories into separate boxes.

I have placed my test site online at http://www.gokaraokemachine.com/wampcopytest.

My hardware category is getting lost when combined with music software which has more divisions. I believe I need to place hardware and software in separate boxes.

I am possibly going to change the music software to music product type instead of general product type, which I originally chose because Easy Populate would upload it with the stable version 1.2.5.4.

There is a thread which explains how to display the music category in a separate box http://http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119614&highlight=music+products+type+displayed.

There is the "Display Categories in Separate Boxes" module last updated by TorVista in September, 2010, which has a Spanish language folder which I could make use of. However, it has been stated in the forum that Categories Dressing would improve on that module, in that Categories Dressing allows for expanded subcategory lists.

Do you have an opinion as to the most straightforward approach compatible with the Zencart_Zen template to achieve better separation of my hardware and music software categories?

either of the sideboes you mention should work with the template.

You will have to test them to see which one fits with what you are trying to accomplish.

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Clyde,

Thanks for your remarks.

In experimenting with a music product type, I encountered the same alignment error on the product page which error you were able to fix in the "Notageek_fix."

I was unable to see in your code where I would add the music product type product display page.

It is seen at www.gokaraokemachine.com/wampcopytest in my category, Music: Spanish DVD, entitled Fiesta Latina Vol. 6. It is identifiable by the "Buy Now" button, which differentiates it from its duplicate of the general product type.

Is there a simple fix for this alignment error?

Thanks.

You best bet is to compare the file I provided in the "Notageek_fix" with the following:

tpl_product_music_info_display.php

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

Clyde,

Should I be looking in CSS to alter margins in my product displays? If in the tpl_info_display.php files, what am I looking for that would affect the margin and stop the wrap-around?

In the product list view, my margin is too close to my picture, and in the new product and all product displays from the category box, the wrap-around effect occurs. That effect also still occurs in my music product view.

I have just uploaded products to my site at https://www.gokaraokemachine.com and observed this margin problem in these places.

I also find in the multi-product listing pages that the margin is flush with the picture instead of spaced apart from the picture. Once I find the code to lengthen the descriptions in that listing, I will be able to tell if it also has a wrap-around effect that needs updating.

I used winmerge to try to compare my tpl_product_music_info_display.php with the notageek_fix but so far have not grasped a possible portion of code that might apply to the margins. I am anxious to repair these margin problems myself, but seem to need a bit more guidance as to what code to look for.

Thanks.

The zencart zen template by default does not alter/modify any of the view product pages ( new products page, all products page, products listing page )

The only page that has been modified for the template is tpl_product_info_display.php

The following are the relevant portions of the stylesheet.css that apply to the (product listing page). Please note that this does not apply to the ( new products page, all products page )

If you want a consistent display of your product listing page(s) you could try installing the following add-on
( www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=1531 )

Re: "ZenCart Zen" Template Support

zen cart 1.3.9 is on the test site our real site is using 1.3.8 but will be upgraded before we add this template.

None that will be any issue as the are inserts to sideboxes.

No problem it is just that we would like to add some black tabs at the top where there are currently Home, Log In/Register, Contact Us, My Account, and View Cart.

Is there a way to add tabs to external or internal pages? And what files would need to be edited? It may seem like a dumb question, but I am unexperienced with most PHP issues, though I can manage to changes things if I am pointed in the right direction.

I have attached a picture to show what I am asking about.
