Installing with WAMP5

I chaged the file name to zencart and moved it up a level to wamp/www/zencart. still returning a 404

I would figure you would have to reinstall your test Zencart because the folder paths wont be right now. I ran into this problem when I first installed wamp and I cant remember what I did to fix im looking threw my notes but, I would delete the Mysql table and delete the zencart and reinstall again. It only takes 10 minutes since its on your home PC. I have my folder path like this:
W:-->wamp-->www--->zencart

I found one of my old posting on this in wamp5 forum. I was told to go to my task bar icon--->Config files--->httpd.conf---> Find this line DocumentRoot "W:/wamp/www" and make sure its right path.. This is my path. I will keep looking for the fix:blink:

Hmmm... I followed those steps, removed and re-created zencart in phpmyadmin/ and deleted and replaced the Zen zip at wamp/wwwzencart and am still getting a 404. :blink:

Question: (Just so I can get my brain around the connection between things) why would I have to delete the MySql table and start anew? Wouldn't that remain the same since the path is the same?

I'm sorry - What is a task bar icon?

I found it - the WAMP task bar.

In fact, the document root was incorrect. however, changing it did not change the fact that it returns a 404:no:

There are two places where it needs to be changed. in both I put in C:\wamp\www

Sorry about the MySql thing you didnt have to and I dont know why I told you that:blush: The icon at the bottom right of your desktop. click on it and select start all services then the icon will change from white/red to yellow/white then to white this means all services are running. It has to on so you can see your local host. After you start all services the little squares next to Apavhe and MySql will turn to little arrows

are all your services running?

I have never dealt with a server on a local machine so far, so don't know yet where to go for settings.
Remotely is easy for me, my host already provides most of the settings and for those that I need to tweak I write a .htaccess file with php flags.
I have a shared hosting plan so unable to make changes on server.

I installed the latest version of wamp5: WAMP5 1.7.0 with Apache 2.2.4 and PHP 5.2.1.
This one also has MySQL 5.0.27.
It also has an add-on that enables it to use PHP 4.4.5 (addon PHP4).
Will ZC work with this?

when you type in the http://localhost in your browser is it taking you to the index.php file thats in your www directory? I forget what it looks like.. but when you type in http://localhost/zencart thats when it gives you the 404 error?

Not sure im a newbie just like you guys I can only help you if its happend to me.. I suggest posting the question eather in wamp or in zencart. There are alot of people who are using wamp5 as a test server im sure someone will answer your question. Sorry:blush:

Meltdown, try going to page 60-61 and following the directions but put this instead:

It looks as though I didn't get a clean install of the Zen folder. When I deleted everything and tried again, it took me to the http://localhost/zc_install/index.php page. Yes!:clap:

Thanks a ton for your help. I was dreading this and your tutorial made it much more do-able. The only glitch was my not paying close attention to where the Zen zip was unzipping.

Im glade it worked I was running out of answers:P Oh and in the tut which I noticed when trying to help there was a few "red" boxes that moved down for some reason so read carefully because they are not right on to of what you have to do. I will resend once i fix it....

PS. I sugest reading the wamp5 manuel here http://www.wampserver.com/phorum/read.php?f=2&i=12300&t=12300 and doing the needed changes for the root password.

Another question, if I may: I've succesfully installed Zencart on my system. I want to change permissions on the configs. How do I access them to do that? Normally I would do so in my FlashFXP but since these are local...? :huh:

go to the config file and right click on it then choose properties then just check the box at the bottom of the pop up that says read-only..

I have no clue what that is. Sorry..... It sounds like a zencart issue try posting it in the forum. As for the read only, It took me forever to find that and it was in my face the whole time. I was messing with permissions ect. then I said how about checking this box and it worked. Anyway good luck!
