Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

nigelt74:

  1. are you using the latest version (1.9.1) of Google base feed (have to ask as for some bizarre reason people often try to use ancient versions of add-ons on the latest zencart)

  2. Did you rename the admin folder correctly etc to match your site

  3. there is a support thread here, where yopu'll probably get better help as the people who maintain the contribution hang out there

WiccanWitch420:

I had 1.3.8a google base older verson from 2008 on my site and it worked fine. I just recently hired someone to do my zen cart upgrade to 1.3.9H. This google base is the only thing we cannot get working. In the configure part where all of the configuration info should be, there is nothing there at all. Any help to this problem? I am getting very anxious and frustrated, as I don't know what to do. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

thanks for your reply

  1. yes 1.9.1
  2. yes
  3. i thought that was this thread?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

The newest version is 1.10.1 - available on numinix.com.

Yes, as far as I know this is ready for the September changes. If not, we are in a lot of trouble.

I'm not going to be able to answer any other questions for a couple of days due to a medical procedure.

thanks for your reply
3. i thought that was this thread?

hi james yes this is the correct threadmy post was in reply to wiccanwitchs query which was a seperate thread, but has now been merged with this thread

WiccanWitch420:

It is like the confirguration is not there at all.
If the base feed admin folder wasn't renamed to match then nothing will show up in admin
The other thing is, was the install.sql run?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I've installed this add on but there's a couple of things I don't understand and as a result it's not working.

Some help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

First of all how I do I **Set Chmod feed directory to 777?
**
The install documentation states "Register your bulk upload .xml file using the same name in your Google Merchant Center Configuration at base.google.com" Where is this .xml file?

It then also states *"Go to Admin->Tools>Google Merchant Center Feeder and follow instructions to create, view, and upload feed file." *There is no such option been created in the tools section. Where have I gone wrong being as this doesn't appear to have been uploaded?

I'm using the latest version of Zen Cart btw.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

Hi

I am trying to upgrade from 1.9.0. It's been working fine but I wanted to update it due to the coming changes.

The upgrade seemed to go well. But when I first tried to create a new file the popup just said 0 out of 0 files. I then went into the settings and realised it had reset everything to default. I changed everything as per my live site, but now the popup is completely blank and does nothing.

Any ideas?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

Please disregard my last post. I have fixed it by applying uninstall.sql and install.sql

However, In the new XML file I do not see the new tags [availability] and [google product category] Neither a setting in the configuration menu.

It's been suggested that this update would include the changes due at the end of September.

Any news?

I have the same issuew. I cant find the google merchant option in the Admin>Configure drop down. I am also unclear as to which folder or file to make 777.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I'm by no means a zen expert, but...

On our site the Google Merchant Center Feeder Configuration option appears at the bottom of the Admin>Configuration drop down.

To actually build a file the option is under Admin>Tools and it's called Google Merchant Center Feeder, it's the last option on the drop down for me.

In the configuration we set the Output Directory to be feed/google/ and changed that to chmod 777. If your FTP client doesn't use chmod then just change the prefs on the output directory to everything for all access for everyone.

And I sure do not see any way that the current version provides the google product category info.

I download the file after it's generated and use a text editor to add the info - <g:google_product_category>Arts & Entertainment > Crafts & Hobbies > Sewing & Needlecrafts > Knitting</g:google_product_category>

We sell yarn so all of my products are the same category.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

This mod DOES NOT have the new google categories in it. That would most likely end up being another mod entirely. Those categories are only required if you have certain types of products - apparel and media. It is not required for most feeds.

If you need those google categories, and you need to match your categories to the google categories, there is a paid option available at magneticone.com. They just put out a working version.

I'm trying to see about getting that added for websites whose products fit into one category. I will keep you posted if the mod gets upgraded to handle that simple change.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I asked a little while back (July time) if the attributes should be output in the XML file as google are asking for variants (e.g. clothes with size and colour) to be a separate product in the file. Can any one confirm if this is being worked on or if it is possible already to output these.

Also google ask for [shipping_weight] This mod outputs [weight] in the XML file. - All my product currently have warnings because of this. This needs to change in the file output.

Google categories are going to need a separate field on the product page for manual entry I suspect as well if I read there information correctly. I know there are mods which allow extra fields, but this one has not been created or catered for.

Thanks in advance fr any enlightenment on the above.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

As per:

Availability: We’d like a user to be able to find your products even when they are out of stock. For this reason, the [availability] status of all your items will be required

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

wizer:

what about [availability] ?

I too don't see availability

This is required from 22nd Sep

The availability attribute only has four accepted values:

'in stock': Include this value if you are certain that it will ship (or be in-transit to the customer) in 3 business days or less. For example, if you have the item available in your warehouse.
'available for order': Include this value if it will take 4 or more business days to ship it to the customer. For example, if you don’t have it in your warehouse at the moment, but are sure that it will arrive in the next few days. For unreleased products, use the value 'preorder'
'out of stock': You’re currently not accepting orders for this product.'
'preorder': You are taking orders for this product, but it’s not yet been released.
When to include: Required for all items in feeds targeting the US, Japan, UK, Germany and France. Recommended for feeds targeting all other countries (although might become required in the future).

Type Four predefined values accepted:
'in stock'
'available for order'
'out of stock'
'preorder'
Text/Tab delimited in stock
XML <g:availability>in stock</g:availability>
Important:

You need to clearly indicate the availability of an item on the item's landing page by either explicitly noting the status (so that it's clear which of the above values describe the availability of the item) or mention how many days it will take for the item to be shipped. (Note: It is acceptable to include 'available for order' in your feed and note "out of stock" on your website.)
Items that are no longer sold have to be removed from the feed entirely.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

Could this be added to the file after it's created. I'm thinking utilising something like 'Search & Replace' in a notepad editor? It might not be a 'true' indicator of what is and isn't in stock. But it may work as a temporary measure?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

availability does seem to be in my feed. The expression in the code suggst that if stock quantity is greater than 0 then <g:availability> in stock </g:availability> is generated else <g:availability>available for order</g:availability>. (line 355 of the googlefroogle.php file) (Happy to be corrected as I do not claim to have any php programming skills as such but just looking through the code this is what I have concluded.)

Make sure your admin includes the setting - Include Zero Quantity - true

It doesn't work for me. Is that tag actually present in your XML file?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I was working fine with version 1.90 but I upgraded to 1.91 and now I get

skipped due to user restrictions

on every item. I tried adding an item with no extra or special characters and no dice. Can anyone help?

How can I download an older version?

Thanks!

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

Delia,

I don't have any questions - well actually I did until I saw your post that Jeff is working on an update - but I did want to offer you my thanks for all the work you've been putting in to this. It's people like you that help to make open source the absolute best approach to site development.
