Apple Zen Support Thread

jettrue:

I don't see the squashing issue

I'll keep looking into it, It may be local issue

jettrue:

but the second issue may be fixed by changing:

#logoWrapperOuter ... etc

Yep its sorted. Never did know what overflow was for, I'll have to do some googling

cheers.

ps. when you view the site can you see the logo clearly (not jagged) AND the shadows? cos on this end the first issue alternates between no shadow and a clear logo, or a squashed logo, with shadows.

Sometimes the best advice is to tell me I'm not thinking about the problem enough.

Overflow is for clearing the float without additional markup (without using the <div class="clearBoth"></div>). I was having problems with spacing issues and such across browsers, and decided to use that method for that section. Then I read that you could use overflow:hidden instead of auto, which would get rid of the scroll bars. Here's a page with info about this method:
http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2005/02/26/simple-clearing-of-floats/

Your logo is perfectly clear on my end. Do you have the latest firefox version? When you say the logo has shadows, you mean the shadows that should be to the left and right of the site?

Re: Apple Zen Support Thread

Please go to the following link and click on the product (green square):

http://www.ejpshop.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1

The lightbox seems working fine but the menu stays on top which covers the picture... What should I do to disable the menu when the enlarged picture come up?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Try changing the z-index on this section to 1000:

#lightbox {
left:0;
line-height:0;
position:absolute;
text-align:center;
top:40px;
width:100%;
z-index:100;
}

I changed the z-index to 1000 now. If you go to that page, you'll notice that now the image is in front of the menu but the menu is still 100% visible and are even still functioning! Is there anyway to keep the menu behind the transparent black mask and disable the drop down menu?

Here is the link again:
http://www.ejpshop.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=1

Thanks.

I'm curious why you're surprised that the menu is "even still functioning!" Why would it stop functioning? I'm not familiar with this add on. But I'm curious why someone would try to access the menu when they're looking at the lightbox'd image? Anyway, I can't think of any way to stop it from functioning (and by the way, it actually doesn't function in Firefox - go figure), but to get it behind the transparent black mask is to change #overlay's z-index to 1000 as well:

#overlay {
-moz-opacity:0.6px;
background-color:#000;
filter:alpha(opacity=60);
height:500px;
left:0;
opacity:0.6px;
position:absolute;
top:0;
width:100%;
z-index:90;
}

Perhaps this adjustment will fix the functioning issue as well? :huh:

Hello there,

I have only just discovered your template. Great stuff! I was just wondering, I have Image Handler installed, and the hover function enabled doesn't seem to work now. Is this the clash with the drop down menu?

Can be seen at :- http://www.essencegifts.co.uk

Many thanks

No, there is no conflict with this template. You still have to upload the files for the hover function to work. The files need are:

includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/style_imagehover.css" />
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/jscript/jscript_imagehover.js">

Very sorry. I forgot to check that. Also, I have just updated and the site-bg-red.gif doesn't show up anymore. The stripey graphics on the side. I this turned off by default? I checked, I uploaded it into the relevant folder. I just PM'ed you also.

Cheers :smile:

No, it's not turned off by default :smartass: It's user error. :P

There are two reasons why site-bg-red.gif isn't working first of all, site-bg-red.gif is still in the red section, and the red section is commented out. So copy:

body {
background:url(../images/site-bg-red.gif) 0 9em repeat-x;
}

and replace this section with it:

body {
background:url('../images/site-bg.gif') repeat-x 0 9em;
}

Then, it still won't work, because you are missing a closing div. Open up includes/templates/apple_zen/common/tpl_header.php and add back a closing div (</div) right before:

<div class="clearBoth"></div> <!--eof-branding display-->

Also, is that a downloadable mod that you used for the "we accept" sidebox? It has a lot of validation errors if you validate your site with an HTML validator:

http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.essencegifts.co.uk%2F

I am using FF 2.0.0.1. Hiding the overflow fixed the mutating-logo part of the problem. But the drop shadow around centercolumnwrapperb still alternates on and off with each page reload. I'll ignore it for now cos its obviously an local FF thing not a problem with the page.

now... I just have to figure out how to extend the shadow up to the menu and logo wrapper and I'm finished :) Feel free to tell me, but I'm sure If I just think about it I'll work it out eventually :)

Sometimes the best advice is to tell me I'm not thinking about the problem enough.

I am manipulating your wonderful template and I'm having trouble removing one of the frames, furthermore locating where and what it is. Please can you visit my site https://www.giftsofwonder.co.uk and identify the white section beneath the tabs and tell me how i can remove this, or at least change the colour?

I hope you can help

Many Thanks :)

I'm not at my usual computer, where I can figure things out easily, but I think I know what will fix that issue. That section below the tabs is where the little stripey background image was on my original template. I see you removed that image, but you did not remove the height for that div:

#centerColumnOuter {
margin:-.1em .5em 0 .5em;
width:70em;
height:1.15em;
position:relative;
}

Try removing the "height:1.15em". Also remove the margin.

What is the name of the top green strip? I would like to increase it as I have the notification of items left in the shopping cart going over the "Home" and "Login". Also any suggestion on the width of the drop down for attributes??

To get any of the css names for any section of the site, just view the source of the site. You can see around that top green strip, you'll see this:

  <div id="navMainWrapper">
    <div id="navMain">
      <div id="navMainLinks">
        <ul class="back">
          <li><a href="http://www.zencart137.jadetrue.com/">Home</a></li>
                    <li><a href="http://www.zencart137.jadetrue.com/login.html">Log In</a></li>
                            </ul>
      </div>

      <div id="navMainSearch">
        <form name="quick_find_header" action="http://www.zencart137.jadetrue.com/advanced_search_result.html" method="get"><input type="hidden" name="main_page" value="advanced_search_result" /><input type="hidden" name="search_in_description" value="1" /><input type="text" name="keyword" size="6" maxlength="30" class="topSearch" style="width: 100px" value="Enter search keywords here" onfocus="if (this.value == 'Enter search keywords here') this.value = '';" onblur="if (this.value == '') this.value = 'Enter search keywords here';" /> <input type="image" src="includes/templates/apple_zen/buttons/english/button_search.gif" alt="Search" title=" Search " /></form>      </div>
    </div>
  </div>

Then by looking in the css, you'll see that navMainWrapper just defines the color, but #navMain has the width defined:

#navMain {
width:70em;
text-align:center;
margin:0 auto;
position:relative;
}

But I'm wondering why you get notifications about the cart way up there? What kind of notification?

I put in warning about items left in the shopping cart, so now I have this (if there were items left):

<div id="mainWrapper">
  <div class="messageStackCaution larger"><img src="includes/templates/template_default/images/icons/warning.gif" alt="Warning" title=" Warning " width="20" height="20" /> Following items were left in your shopping cart after your last visit. If you do not wish to include them today, please remove them from you cart. Glad to have you back. Happy shopping!</div>
<!--bof-header logo and navigation display-->
<div id="headerWrapper">
  <!--bof-navigation display-->
  <div id="navMainWrapper">
    <div id="navMain">
      <div id="navMainLinks">
        <ul class="back">
          <li><a href="http://test.pridepak.com/ZenLevel3/">Home</a></li>
                    <li><a href="http://test.pridepak.com/ZenLevel3/index.php?main_page=logoff">Log Out</a></li>
          <li><a href="http://test.pridepak.com/ZenLevel3/index.php?main_page=account">My Account</a></li>
                            </ul>
      </div>

and it overlaps the heading in there.

Hi! Change the warnings section of the css (~line 340-ish) to this:

/*warnings, errors, messages*/
.messageStackWarning, .messageStackError, .messageStackSuccess, .messageStackCaution {
	line-height:1.8em;
	padding:0.2em;
	}

.messageStackWarning, .messageStackError {
	background:#990000;
	color:#ffffff;
	}

.messageStackSuccess {
	background:#929292;
	}

.messageStackCaution {
	background:#FFFF99;
	}

I'll update the download with this fix. :D

Re: Apple Zen Support Thread

Hi. I've got a bit further on my site customisations. A while ago I asked how to put an image in the main page (I think you call it CentreColumn) and you suggested that I do the following:

*"An easy way to do this is re-open that same file (includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/header.php), and where you removed that tagline text, add your image code (with the correct width and height of course):

<img src="includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/images/YOUR_IMAGE.jpg alt="YOUR ALT TEXT HERE" title="YOUR IMAGE TITLE HERE" height="100" width="500" />

And be sure to upload the image to the correct folder."*

The way I have tried it last night (before I found your reply) was by putting some html in the Define_Main_Page.php of the Admin control panel. But that makes the image a bit out of sync with the centre column. Refer to my site to see what I mean:

www.sixvolts.co.nz/shop

So...I will undo that and make the changes to header.php and see how that looks.

Two other questions if I can:

  • I've changed the background colour of my site to an off-white but just can't seem to find where I change the colour of the bits that are on the left and right hand side of the logo. Can you help on that one?

  • As I've turned off the header graphic that sits on top of the Breadcrumb bar it has left a tiny bit of the border showing on the left and right hand sides. do you know how I can remove that please?

  • Is there a way to change the font size of the 'Home' Login' and the default text in the search field and on the Search button itself? I just want to make it slightly smaller.

Thanks alot. I really appreciate how you support your template and am really thankful that you've made it available.

Your opinion on my site would be welcome too :)

Actually, you said you wanted an image in the header file... the instructions I gave you were for putting an image in the header, NOT for in the main page centerColumn.

duxfield:

The way I have tried it last night (before I found your reply) was by putting some html in the Define_Main_Page.php of the Admin control panel. But that makes the image a bit out of sync with the centre column. Refer to my site to see what I mean:

www.sixvolts.co.nz/shop

So...I will undo that and make the changes to header.php and see how that looks.

So, where do you want the image? In the header? If so you will of course need a much smaller image. If you actually want it in the middle, then DON'T follow my previous instructions, because I was giving you instructions for putting an image in the header. If you want it in the middle there, it looks to me like you just need a smaller image.

duxfield:

Two other questions if I can:

  • I've changed the background colour of my site to an off-white but just can't seem to find where I change the colour of the bits that are on the left and right hand side of the logo. Can you help on that one?

There is no color defined for that, you have to add the color to it. its the #logoWrapperOuter.

duxfield:

  • As I've turned off the header graphic that sits on top of the Breadcrumb bar it has left a tiny bit of the border showing on the left and right hand sides. do you know how I can remove that please?

You removed the image for that section, but did not remove its height. Change #centerColumnOuter to this:

#centerColumnOuter {
	margin:-.1em .5em 0 .5em;
	width:70em;
	position:relative;
        clear:both;
	}

duxfield:

  • Is there a way to change the font size of the 'Home' Login' and the default text in the search field and on the Search button itself? I just want to make it slightly smaller.

You can do this:

#navMainSearch {
	margin:0 auto;
	text-align:right;
	padding:1px 2px;
	}

#navMainSearch input {
	margin:0 auto;
	text-align:right;
        font-size:1em;
	}

duxfield:

Thanks alot. I really appreciate how you support your template and am really thankful that you've made it available.

Re: Apple Zen Support Thread

thanks alot for all those answers :)

Yeah - I actually wanted the image in the middle of the page...like I have it now...but so that it doesn't sit outside the borders like it is at the moment. Just renaming my header image (the bit with Six Volts Clothing in it) to logo.giff displayed that fine so I'm happy with the header as it is.

So to correct the alignment of the main image so that it nice nicely within the borders do you think I'll just need to leave it a line of html code in the Define Pagers (in Define_main_page.php) editor but make it a bit smaller? Cause at the moment I have not set any height or width dimensions on the image. Thanks
