Event Calendar v3

Did anyone ever find a solution to the back button issue? Everything is working great for me except that the back buttons often go to the monthly calendar on the main page now.

Re: Event Calendar v3

I tend to disable back_buttons in my store that do not work properly, including those in event_calendar, which thus forces the user to use their browser back_button.

However, with fixes to back_buttons in several other mods released over the last month or so, I may take another look at this problem.

But please dont hold your breath waiting for an answer.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think I explained the problem well enough though. It isn't an issue with the back buttons in the calender mod itself but the way the back buttons on other pages are behaving now that I have installed the calendar mod. Someone else described the same problem and it seems to be some kind of issue with how the navigation history is built. For instance, if I enter the shopping cart by adding a product and then click the Continue Shopping button, it correctly goes back to the product description page, but if I click the shopping cart link from the main navigation or from the side box and then click on the Continue Shopping button, it now goes back to a page that shows the contents on the events calendar sidebox on the main page and no other content. In this case, the URL being passed to the ContinueShopping button by the navigationHistory object is <mysite>/index.php?main_page=events_calendar_include&_month=&_year=&eventmode=eventframe so that seems to be the problem. This probelm is also affecting the Back buttons on the Contact Us and Privacy Notice pages and probably others around the site. I know that I could disable all back buttons but I would rather fix the issue. I am going to look at it today but thought I would see if anyone else had already fixed it first.

Re: Event Calendar v3

kencor1:

Good news I have got the calendar working:clap: except for the same error that the post above mine was having with the dates in the ALL Events view. They are all the same dates as the date that is the furthest out. Has anyone got a fix for this?

Thanks
Tom

I was having an issue with how the dates are displayed although it isn't exactly the same problem that you are describing. My dates were all shifted up by one event. So the first event had the second event's date, the second event had the third event's date etc. and the last two events had the same date. I fixed this by changing when the events array increments in the file /modules/events_calendar_listing.php.

You need to change this code:

        while (!$events->EOF)
        {
            $row++;
            $list_box_contents[$row][] = array('align' =>     'left',
                                                               'params' => 'class="event_description"',
                                                        'text'  =>  '<a href="index.php?main_page='
                                           . FILENAME_EVENTS_CALENDAR . '&select_event=' . $events->fields['event_id'] . '">' . $events->fields['title'] . '</a>');
                   $events->MoveNext();
            list($year, $month, $day) = split ( '[/.-]', $events->fields['start_date']);
                $list_box_contents[$row][] = array( 'align'  => 'center',
                                    'params' => 'class="event_description"',
                                    'text'   => date("F j, Y", mktime(0, 0, 0, $month, $day, $year)));
                $endDate = '-';
                if(isset($events->fields['end_date']) && trim($events->fields['end_date']) != '')
                {
                    list($year, $month, $day) = split ('[/.-]', $events->fields['end_date']);
                        $endDate = date("F j, Y", mktime(0, 0, 0, $month, $day, $year));
                        }
                        $list_box_contents[$row][] = array('align'  => 'center',
                                       'params' => 'class="event_description"',
                                       'text'   => $endDate);

                       }

to this code:

        while (!$events->EOF)
        {
            $row++;
            $list_box_contents[$row][] = array('align' => 'left',
                                               'params'=> 'class="event_description"',
                                               'text'  => '<a href="index.php?main_page='

                                                           . $events->fields['event_id'] . '">'
                                                           . $events->fields['title'] . '</a>');
            list($year, $month, $day) = split ( '[/.-]', $events->fields['start_date']);
            $list_box_contents[$row][] = array( 'align'  => 'center',
                                     	        'params' => 'class="event_description"',
                                    		    'text'   => date("F j, Y", mktime(0, 0, 0, $month, $day, $year)));
            $endDate = '-';
            if(isset($events->fields['end_date']) && trim($events->fields['end_date']) != '')
              {
               list($year, $month, $day) = split ('[/.-]', $events->fields['end_date']);
               $endDate = date("F j, Y", mktime(0, 0, 0, $month, $day, $year));
              }
            $list_box_contents[$row][] = array('align'  => 'center',
                                               'params' => 'class="event_description"',
                                               'text'   => $endDate);

            $events->MoveNext();
         }

If you are using the reformatted files from post #57, then the code that needs to be resplaced will be on lines 89-111.

Hope that helps.

I suspect the problem lies with the iframe. I have tried so many times to replace same with a div structure and have all but given up as coding is not my forte.

I already had your revised code in place.

Yes, the problem was related to the iframe. It turned out to be a really easy fix. I replaced the code that the readme has us insert at the top of includes/templates/your_template/common/tpl_main_page.php with the following:

<?php
  if (isset($_GET['eventmode']) && $_GET['eventmode'] == 'eventframe') {
  $_SESSION['navigation']->remove_current_page();
  require($body_code);
  }else{
?>

That way the call by the iframe to the event calendar is removed from the navigation history. It seems to be working well.

I also attempted to replace the iframe with a div structure and was successful except that you can no longer browse through the months in the sidebox which I think is a really nice feature so I'm going to leave it as the iframe for now.

I already had your revised code in place..

The other code I posted was regarding the date problem someone else had asked for help with and was not related to the back button issue.

Hi cayenne17

That works for me and allowed me to reinstate the Continue Shopping button. I am glad it was an easy fix for you.

Many Thanks.

Re: Event Calendar v3

I went to edit an event via Event Manager and discovered that the event image I had input for an event was removed regardless of whether the "No Image" checkbox was ticked or not. This checkbox only appears when an event image had been input.

Lines 348-353 in admin/events_manager.php (v1.02) reads:

        <td class="main"><?php
      echo zen_draw_file_field('event_image') . zen_draw_hidden_field('event_previous_image', (($HTTP_POST_VARS['event_image']) ? $HTTP_POST_VARS['event_image'] : $events->fields['event_image'])) .'<[B]/[/B]td><td class="main">'. (($HTTP_POST_VARS['event_image']) ? $HTTP_POST_VARS['event_image'] : $events->fields['event_image']) .' &nbsp</td>';
      if ($HTTP_POST_VARS['event_image'] || $events->fields['event_image']) {
      $event_image = ($HTTP_POST_VARS['event_image'] ? $HTTP_POST_VARS['event_image'] : $events->fields['event_image']);
      echo '<td class="main">'. zen_image(DIR_WS_CATALOG_IMAGES .'events_images/' . $event_image , $HTTP_POST_VARS['title'][$language_id], 50, 50, 'align="right" hspace="2" vspace="2"') .'</td>'.
           '<td class="main">&nbsp[B];[/B]'. TEXT_EVENT_NO_IMAGE .'  '. zen_draw_checkbox_field('no_image', $value = '', $checked = false, $compare = '') .'</td>';

While I can live with this problem, it will become a pain to keep track of the events images as I roll one year's events to the next.

I suspect the bit highlighted in blue above is the cause but cannot work out how to fix. Help much appreciated.

In the above code, I have also boldly highlighted in red two (2) bits ("/" and ";") that I deem need fixing.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Event Calendar v3

So I've been looking through this thread ad two things stand out for me:

  1. What's available in the downloads is nearly three years old, seems un-stable and requires one to sift through this support thread for a bunch of tweaks and patches (and it's difficult to tell which ones are still legit or not)
  2. I've yet to see a GOOD example of this module working on ANYONE'S site..

Now all that said, what is the advantage of using a three year old unstable mod which requires a ton of patches over this one: http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=1230

Scheduled Events seems stable ad well supported.. So I assume it's the feature set between the two that makes people continue to bang their heads against the wall with this mod..

So riddle me this?? What's the difference between these two modules in terms of features..

Okay.. So I'm back.. and I've installed this thing and applied every patch that's been posted here and I cannot create events.. I click the "New Events" button and NOTHING happens.. So I'm confused how ANY can claim this mod works because I don't see it..

Hoping someone with a working version of this mod would be kind enough to bundle up their files and post them here as a zip file.. Because right now from where I stand, this thing ain't working at ALL..

Re: Event Calendar v3

Good grief.. I've culled through this entire thread and found the combination of various patches/fixes/hacks posted here for nearly 3 years.. and in all this time NO ONE has bundled this up and submitted a new version of this mod or even summarized the sum total of the changes required to get this :censored: module to work??!!!

This is by no means WORKING yet for me. I say that because though I now see the NEW EVENT form showing when I click the NEW EVENT button, I can see by the many posts here that that's not ANY indication that this module will even work.. So I have a boatload more testing to do before I will give this :censored: module a thumbs up..:no:

I personally need something like this for a site I'm building and I want to get this thing working to the point where I can turn it over to a developer to fix all the remaining issues and add a few enhancements for my client (like RSVP/guest list management and reports).. AND before anyone asks, my client is paying for this custom code, so even if we do get it to our liking it's unlikely that I will be sharing the enhanced version with the community anytime soon -- sorry..

In the meantime I thought I save folks a few grey hairs and at LEAST summarize all the threads which contain all the gosh doggone patches needed to at least get this thing to LOOK like it works.. (like I said, I've yet to test out all the functionality as of yet) Here's all the threads I referenced..

  1. http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=792010&postcount=119
  2. http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=863072&postcount=140
  3. http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=629820&postcount=57
  4. http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=975034&postcount=164
  5. http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=975306&postcount=166
  6. http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=871062&postcount=148
  7. http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=862919&postcount=137
  8. http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=866045&postcount=145
    Now pour yourself a STIFF drink and get ready.. Here is what I did..

I downloaded the mod from the free downloads, then I merged it with pixelpadre's posted fileset (attached to post #8 on the list above)

Then I applied every one of the changes posted in each one of the posts I listed above.. I uploaded the whole kit and kaboodle to my test site, ran the SQL patch, and darned if I FINALLY didn't see the new events form show up..

Off to test this mess.. :no:

Bewildered and befuddled..

Hi Diva

Glad to have you on board. I am happy to help as much as possible.

I have attached a zipped copy of my version. My version works atreat on 139h, although it has been modified to suit my store and I have yet to resolve a few niggling but tolerable issues as outlined below.

I will PM the original OS mod (as found) for comparison, as it is above allowable size. This copy includes Mac .files, which will need to be separated.

In admin/event_manager

a. the No_Image checkbox in event manager does not function properly.

b. when editing an event, the previously input image is removed from the event, which then requires the image to be re-input.

c. Only one product and additional link can be provided per event.

Generally,

d. To view all events as a list, click on the calendar sidebox heading.

e. the event dropdown should be able to be limited to a prescribed number (say next 20) or timeframe (say within 6 months) of events. ie One event per week would amount to 52 lines in the dropdown, which is far to many to display IMHO. The "Select Event" title is also duplicated in this dropdown and others in this mod.

Bye for now

Re: Event Calendar v3

I dunno about how "on board" I am..:laugh: I'm simply investigating this mod to see if it is useful for my client's needs.. Totally appreciate the files..:smile: :clap:

Seems a bit buggy.. Also it's missing a huge chunk of functionality that I will have to have developed to make this work for them.. What's missing for my client is some kind of RSVP/Guestlist management.. Wanna see if this mod will even be a good foundation to develop upon to get them the full events management system they need..

Re: Event Calendar v3

I have disabled the back buttons in my event calendar and do not use EZ pages, so I may not be able to help you in this matter.

However, I seem to recall that problem was discussed in the thread early last year, and a fix may have been provided.
