Default problem with Define Pages Editor

I installed a new template ("The Bookshelf" one) and not sure if it is related, but I have been unable to edit any pages within the "Define Pages Editor". when I bring one up and make changes, then save those changes, I dont get any errors but my website is not updated. If I go back and relaod the same pages within "Define Pages Editor" the changes I just made are lost and the page info is back to the default info.

Did you make a template folder (reflecting the name of your new template) and copy the files you plan to alter (from includes/languages/english/html_includes) to your new template folder in html_includes?

Double check the file permissions. You should have a red warning stating you can't write to the file if the permissions are wrong.

Change the permissions to 777 via FTP or Cpanel, edit/save, then change them back to what they were originally.

    Don't leave them at 777!!

The warning will give you the path. One thing to keep in mind is to place a copy of the defines page in your overrides folder. The overrides folder is usually the name of your template.

An example path for the main page is: includes/languages/english/html_includes/your overrides folder/define_main_page.php

Change the permissions to 777, save. Edit through admin, save. Set permissions back to original.

I am not getting any error message or warnings. I created and uploaded the following on my site and have file permissions set to 777:

    /bonsai_cart/includes/languages/english/html_includes/bookshelf

still i edit, get no errors, no changes are made to website, and when i go back to re-edit same page there are no changes it is back to default. every other changr change i have been making to the template within the admin is working fine
