Facebook - eCommerce Catalog Browse [Support]

brightsoftware:

Hi TamyA,

I can see you have tried to install it on two different Facebook pages.

One you attempt to install it as an app, the system is reporting that the Plug-in key is incorrect, as a result it can't retrieve the data.

The second you attempt via XML but you didn't specify the location of the XML file. You need to give the exact URL of the Google XML product feed for the system to import it correctly.
I am not sure what you are talking about, all i have is one page on Facebook.

I would recommend that you fix the plug-in key via the app admin and it should hopefully start working. As this will give you the best result, as the Google product feed doesn't provide all the information, and results in reduced functionality.

Kind regards

Bright Software Solutions

I did generate a new a plug-in key from admin on our site and plugged it in the Facebook setting.

Re: Facebook - eCommerce Catalog Browse [Support]

Hi

The two Facebook pages we have link to your domain our system are:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/preview/373657609358780
https://www.facebook.com/pages/preview/421261184562830

Unfortunately we can't access either of the pages, so I can't determine which you are actively using. Please can you confirm the URL of the correct Facebook page, as both of these pages are still reporting invalid key when they request the data feed.

It maybe worth using our support system, as we may need to discuss your key setting and probably not best done on a public thread.

Re: Facebook - eCommerce Catalog Browse [Support]

Hi

When the web server for eCommerce Browser app requests the data feed, it receives 403 Forbidden message with no content.

However when I access it from a web browser it works fine:

http://www.discounthomeoffice.com/fb_browse.php?n=zc_browse&p=ADD_PLUGIN_KEY_HERE&t=N&catid=-1&path=-1&page=0&instock=1

Please review you web logs and see if you can see why the requests are being blocked as this will be the reason why both methods are not working.

Kind regards

Re: Facebook - eCommerce Catalog Browse [Support]

The plug-in key can be located in the admin under the "Configuration" drop-down under "Facebook Catalog Browser". If it is not present please make sure you have installed the SQL patch and also uploaded the contents of the upload folder to the root of the shop. Not the folder itself.

If it is still not visible, you can manually set the plug-in key inside the fb_browse.php as this will remove the need to run the SQL script and find the key. To do this, simply change:

if (!($admin_pass == BSS_PLUGIN_KEY)) {

to

if (!($admin_pass == 'MyNewPassword')) {

This does have the disadvantage that you will not be able to set the password inside the shop admin, but this is only done once during installation so it is not important.

Re: Facebook - eCommerce Catalog Browse [Support]

G'day,

So this Facebook Shop to Zen Cart integration option has been around for a while now and it seems to work technically. But does it work commercially? Are those of you using it seeing a significant increase in sales that is a direct result of having a store on Facebook? Is the increase in profits covering you costs of running this solution?

I'd appreciate your feedback before I venture down this path.

Best regards, Lloyd Borrett.

Re: Facebook - eCommerce Catalog Browse [Support]

Hi Lloyd,

What we have found is that its commercial viability is very much dependent on the retailer's target customers. We discovered it works with a specific type of customer profile, e.g late 20 to early 40s that use Facebook via their computer or tablet. Unfortunately over the past few years we have found a shift with a large majority of younger users now relying solely on the mobile app to interact.

The web app doesn't work on mobile devices because Facebook only allows you to link to an associated native iOS or Android apps when you access the page app. This is impractical, as each retailer would need a custom Facebook and native app. This would be unlikely to be picked up, as customers are very unlikely not install a custom app for each small retailer, onto their phone.

All we can recommend, is trying the free trial as you don't need to enter any payment details. Then during the trial we recommend you use Google analytics to see how it affects your referrals for both Facebook or https://www.ecommercebrowser.com and whether there is an uplift in your customer base and referrals. If it doesn't work well you can always choose to keep the free lite gallery version, after the trial, or uninstall it from your page completely without any costs.

Kind regards

Re: Facebook - eCommerce Catalog Browse [Support]

It is a very great add-on! I can't wait to install it.

Is it also workable for Zencart 1.5.4?

Thanks

Re: Facebook - eCommerce Catalog Browse [Support]

I just installed this plugin and it works great. I do have a problem however, when I goto my facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/religiousshop1, I get this message "Sorry, this content isn't available right now. The link you followed may have expired, or the page may only be visible to an audience you're not in."

Anybody know why????????

Re: Facebook - eCommerce Catalog Browse [Support]

Hi Frank,

You probably just need to change the page visibility in the "Settings" of your page:

"Page visibility" Untick -> "Unpublish Page"

Kind regards

Re: Facebook - eCommerce Catalog Browse [Support]

It could relate to the SQL error / SQL compatibility issue but unfortunately I can't confirm the problem without seeing the SQL error messages.

However the easiest solution is to manually set the plug-in key inside the fb_browse.php as this will remove the need to run the SQL script. To do this, simply change (approx line 85):

if (!($admin_pass == BSS_PLUGIN_KEY)) {

to

if (!($admin_pass == 'MyNewPassword')) {

This does have the disadvantage that you will not be able to set the password inside the shop admin, but this is only done once during installation so it is not important.

Hi.

I managed to get it working. Used PhpMyAdmin to install SQL File and reset the Plugin key - all works fine now on Facebook but still can't see anything listed under Configuration->Facebook Catalog Browser ?

Re: Facebook - eCommerce Catalog Browse [Support]

Hi

Happy to hear that products are now appearing in Facebook. We will investigate why the option is not appearing in the menu. The page just displays the plug-in key, so should not cause you a problem since you have retrieve the key directly from the database.

Re: Facebook - eCommerce Catalog Browse [Support]

Yes we have tested it on a clean install of version 1.5.5e and it worked without any problem. However occasionally people seam to have a compatibility issue with the SQL script. However as mentioned previously you can skip this stage and the requirement for admin configuration section, if you manually configure the plug-in key in the fb_browse.php file.

Kind regards
