Preston Elite Template Support Thread

picaflor-azul:

See this post for the column question:

http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?99841-Left-column-briefly-shifting-to-the-center-of-the-page

I think that there is no problem with the sideboxes. Some like product notifications only show on the product info pages.

Thanks,

Anne

Ok, I ran the W3C Validator and found some issues, seems that putting the & symbol in the category description that it doesn't like that too well, but the other errors, I'll go through one by one and see if I can find it, says it sees 8 errors, not sure I really understand them all, but will give it a shot!
Thanks so very much!

The issue with your "&" symbol is not exclusive to this template, but a general rule for any web site.

The template code does validate with no errors as you can see on the demo so you have introduced errors in your customization:

http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.picaflor-azul.com%2Ffree-demos%2Findex.php%3Fmain_page%3Dindex%26template_switch_id%3Dpreston_elite&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0

Thanks,

Anne

Thanks Anne,
I guess I really have no business messing with all of this..... I don't know how to fix this stuff, or I guess how to actually find it, I don't know. This thing shows the errors and I understand that, but where they actually are in my files on my server......I'm going to keep looking.:( I guess I just don't get how to find them from looking at the validators source to looking at the actual files.

Validation Output: 3 Errors
(1)
Error end tag for X omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified

You may have neglected to close an element, or perhaps you meant to "self-close" an element, that is, ending it with "/>" instead of ">".
Line 1309, column 7: end tag for "div" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified

    </body></html>

(2&3)

Error end tag for X which is not finished

Most likely, you nested tags and closed them in the wrong order. For example <p><em>...</p> is not acceptable, as <em> must be closed before <p>. Acceptable nesting is: <p><em>...</em></p>

Another possibility is that you used an element which requires a child element that you did not include. Hence the parent element is "not finished", not complete. For instance, in HTML the <head> element must contain a <title> child element, lists require appropriate list items (<ul> and <ol> require <li>; <dl> requires <dt> and <dd>), and so on.
Line 783, column 26: end tag for "ul" which is not finished

                   		    </ul>

Line 859, column 21: end tag for "ul" which is not finished

    		      		      </ul>

If you do google searches for the general errors you will probably find instructions on how to fix them.

Thanks,

Anne

I appreciate your help Anne!

I guess what I mean though is fixing "abcd" wouldn't be an issue if knew where to find "abcd" For example the validator says on line 1309 the error......ok I understand that on the validator source page line 1309 has an error. Where is that in my actual files is my issue. Is there a tool in the Web Develelopers Tool Kit that you can put in the code and it will show you where that code is?
I know my questions probably sound stupid, but I'm trying to learn to be self sufficent in all aspects of this, but I'm hitting a wall here.
When it says you have an error, where can I find out in my file set where to find said error?
Thanks so much for your valuable time. I appreciate it more than you know.
But I'm about ready to just start replacing all the css sheets with the original ones for a fresh start. (that probably wouldn't help either though, lolololol)

Re: Preston Elite Template Support Thread

Ok, scratch all that for now!
The problem with my sidebox widths has been fixed, I had to add px to my column widths in the admin. Thank goodness thats all it was~
Glad it was something simple. No more adjustable side box widths! Other "errors" I can deal with some other time~
Thanks fo all your help Anne
Have a blessed day!

You need to view the page source and go to the line where the error is. Then you can use the developers toolkit to search for what files you need to edit.

Thanks,

Anne

Re: Preston Elite Template Support Thread

Hi, I'm really enjoying the Preston Elite template and thank you for making it available. I'm making my way through the setup but found a small alignment issue between the mega menu and slider (picture attached). Sorry, I'm not a programmer but if you can point me in the right direction, I'll get it figured out. Thx Mitch

Hi, just popped-in and cannot resist commenting.

First, Zencart and Anne's templates should validate. But even so, I wouldn't think 3 validation errors to be earth-shattering and not worth alot of time until perhaps you can come back to them one day after sales are rolling in.

Second, what do you mean by "I'm about ready to just start replacing all the css sheets with the original ones for a fresh start". Why did you change the css sheets to begin with, especially as a newbie? (I don't see your site so cannot see your work.) My long-standing pet peeve is how people...many people...take a great template and immediately begin to butcher it. But perhaps that's just me. (Only rarely do I see someone who has really improved upon a template. I've done some butchering myself. :) )

Third, yes, using the "&" symbol in category names, product names and just about on any page will cause that ampersand validation error. If you want to use an ampersand you have to use the html code that generates that symbol: &

Fourth, rather than getting frustrated and bogged-down one can always make arrangements for Anne to fix things for you. Then one can focus on selling and learn the finer points of Zencart as time permits.

Okay, out of my system. :)

Re: Preston Elite Template Support Thread

Anne, is there a way to disable the slide show? I have tried removing the script from the page but it moves the home page text into the header.

Thanks,
Scott

You can remove the call for the slide show in includes/templates/preston_elite/common/tpl_main_page.php

Thanks,

Anne

Re: Preston Elite Template Support Thread

Anne,

For some reason when you click on a product the attributes are listed... randomly?! Take a look: http://head1stapparel.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=1

Where can I fix this. Also I was thinking of moving the description above the product attributes. I would assume I can do that in the same place? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Use your admin --catalog-products --optiona name sorter or option value sorter to order the attributes.

You can edit the includes/templates/preston_elite/templates/tpl_product_info_display.php file to move things around on the product info page.

Thanks,

Anne
