Yes, I am able to access the zencart admin section without a problem. The "I Lost It" instructions seemed to be telling me that I must log in with a secondary username...which I did not have.
I've not read those instructions for a long time, but the way I understand it is that if you DID have a secondary user/login you can (or should be able to) login with those credentials and simply reset the password of the primary user. This is the simplest way to reset the primary password.
DK_Scully:
Since I couldn't do that, logically the rest of the page falls by the wayside...except that I was finally told I could ignore that step and move on to the second step...which I hadn't done because I was trying to stick to EXACTLY what was being instructed so I wouldn't mess things up further.
If you don't have the secondary user, the only(?) option is to reset the password of the primary user. This can only be done using phpMyAdmin (which effectively bypasses all of the zencart security).
DK_Scully:
I do understand encrypted passwords...but since I can log in without any issue, I don't see how it can be "lost."
OK, so now I'm a little confused as to what your actual problem is. Sorry... I think I'll need to go back and read some of the earlier posts, because I'm clearly on a different path than you are. I do agree with what you are saying here though... if you can login without an issue then clearly the password is correct, regardless of the crypto being used.
DK_Scully:
I still don't...but since I was told to create a new username anyway, I did. For what good it did.
Just to confirm, this 'new username' you created was done via ZenCart and it was for a new Admin user correct? Also, you did give it the 'Super User' profile when adding it? Is any/all of this correct? (Just trying to ensure you didn't create a regular user account, or created an account using phpMyAdmin).
Having said that, if you are able to log in as the store admin using the primary account you really don't have a need for a secondary account (although it can be very useful if you do ever 'lose' the password for the primary account (this can happen, for example, if the site gets hacked via an SQL injection exploit resulting in the hacker changing the primary password on you).
DK_Scully:
Regarding a different password to access the mysql database...this is the first I've heard about looking in the Zencart configure.php file. Yes, I think I see what you're referring to, on lines 50-57.
Yes, that sounds about right, and this is typically the same username/password that you'll need for phpMyAdmin (although it is possible for them to get out of sync). If it is of any help, you can check/verify the username from the cPanel "MySQL databases" icon ('privileged users'). You can't check the password from here though, but you can create a new user for the zencart database and specify a new password, which you'll then need to replicate into both the configure.php files.
I suggest you don't need to do this though, because if you can log into the zencart admin then it is safe to assume the the credentials in the configure.php files are indeed correct and therefore don't need changing.
And this bring me back to the stage where I'm not quite following exactly where it is that you are having a problem.
DK_Scully:
Once we can resolve the existing errors, so that I know what to do with that last bit of information, I'll give it a try. Thank you!
Just to repeat, if you can login to the zencart store admin then don't mess with the configure.php login details, because these will be correct (If they weren't Zencart will give a big bold message/warning stating quite clearly that it "Can't connect to the Database"(and it will do this before you can even get to the zencart login screen(s).
