Free Template "Future Zen"

greatbaits1:

I can happily remove the TITLE HEADINGS in any sidebox, but I want to remove the bit that says 'Home' in the middlebox of my site (the bit above the welcome comment!)These are the breadcrumbs that show a user where in your site they are. As user move through your site, they expand. I would recommend clicking on some of your links to see this happen.

If you still want to get rid of them then Admin > Configuration > Layout Settings and set Define Breadcrumb Status (4th line) to 0.

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Hello Kuroi,

Shiroi here, still around in a "kuroi" tunnel and I don't see the light just yet!

I switched back to your template, am using your original CSS and I realized my right sidebox overlaps EasyPopulate's data (using for test) only when displaying multiple products pages with prices on far right (which gets overlapped). What needs to be modified in the data to fit into the page nicely.

http://www.omniretail.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=6_12

Many Thanks,
Shiroi

If you mean something else, please let me know.

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Also, where can I change the width of Search button? It's so short that the word "Search" is truncated to "Sear".

I'm also trying to widen the sideboxes and found parameters (150px) in Config->Layout Settings. If I change them, though, only the text contents and the bottom graphics seem to get wider. The top part stays short as well as the button.

I don't think this is in FAQ or WIKI, is it?

Kind Regards,
Shiroi

Kind Regards,
ShiroiWHat you call getting wider, I probably call breaking . This is currently a fixed width template, limited by the sizes of its graphics. You are welcome (even encouraged) to substitute your own as some people have done with already with success. The original photoshop files are available as a download elsewhere in this thread if that would help.

I am also planning a short tutorial to show how to change the template into a liquid layout which would also help anybody wanting to be able to change widths via the Admin without having to know in advance to what width they wanted to change. However, I have client priorities that need to take preference over that.

Understood.

Is it possible to widen, or break, the Search button within your original template sidebox, or would it be easier to change the button image?

Many Thanks,
Shiroi

I must not be using the right terms to describe my problems. I tried the above anyway, no avail.

I seem to have many problems as you can see below. How/what did you do to make your example picture so neat, what do I need to do to make mine look like yours besides paying you to do? I certainly don't mind paying you to design, but I do mind feeling I have given up and failed.

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Sorry, it timed out on me as I was editing!

I'm hoping my problems are apparent with the link below. Prices on the far right get truncated and Search button's word truncated.

http://www.omniretail.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=18

I'd also like to get rid of the blue bar appearing on bread-crumbs.

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

I took care of the Search button truncation problem by resizing font size of .sideBoxContent.

Thank You

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

This is rather curious. On my system WinXP using Firefox 1.5 and Internet Explorer 6, your site looks fine. The text in the search box is too long, but this is normal in the default installation (I'll tell you how below). What operating system and browser are you using to view your pages? Are you able to create a screenshot, so that I can see what you're seeing?

Thanks for the other thought, however the frustration that you are currently feeling is absolutely normal. I doubt that anybody becomes proficient without going through this (I certainly didn't). There is a steep learning curve as you stand looking at the front of this huge incomprehensible monster, but from the other side it looks relatively straightforward and logical. Look at my join date - not so far ahead of yours ka?

Changing the text in the search box

You may already have already created an includes/languages/english/future_zen/header.php file. If not do so by copying includes/languages/english/header.php.

You can then edit the following line in the new file> define('HEADER_SEARCH_DEFAULT_TEXT', 'Enter search keywords here');

Hello Kuroi,

I'm still using ME and the browser is IE5.50. I'm very familiar with XP & IE6 but not wanting to go through upgrade hassle.
I was wrong, after all it wasn't right sideboxes that were overlapping the price (right hand side) appear in the mid description section, but rather the right hand side of the description section (when there is a price) gets truncated. Maybe it's just the description width, etc. Would you know what needs to be changed to make every thing fit into the space!?
Also, Manufacturer selection dropdown menu seems too wide that it's not fitting neatly inside the left sidebox. DrByte gave me a great suggestion (config->max value->to adjust manufacturer values), but no avail. I think I need to comb through manufacturer.php unless you could think of a better way.

I do appreciate your encouragement. I'm still crawling!

It was actually the word "Search" on the command button that was truncated. After changing from 1.1 (default) font size to 0.9 seems to have fixed it. I keep a note of this though, I know it will come in handy.

MANY THANKS,
Akai

Yikes!!! ME has to be without doubt the worst version of Windows since Windows 1! It is awful, and IE5.50!! I would say this is where your problems lay ... I would definatly be upgrading that system to be honest, not least because of the security implications and instability.

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

RIGHT, here we go - my site has gone a bit mad!

https://www.greatbaits.co.uk - shows the correct home page

However, if you move through the site then follow the home link, you end up with this

http://www.greatbaits.co.uk/onlineshopfiles/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=82

there seems to be a 'parse' error and a lot of the page formatting is wrong

can anyone help?

Nevertheless, since we've started here, let's continue. You actually have this error on all your pages. It is telling you that there is an unexpected closing curly bracket early in your includes/languages/english/mytemp/index.php file, but I'm sure you'd got that far yourself.

In fact there should be a curly bracket at the beginning of that line, but your system's rejection of it suggests that something has gone wrong on one of the previous two lines. I recommend checking your syntax there. Comparing it to your includes/languages/english/index.php file might help.

If you're still stuck after that, I suggest that you come back here and post lines 12-17 inclusive of the offending file, i.e. from the line that reads> // Showcase vs Store

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

I'm still using ME and the browser is IE5.50.I suspected that that might be the case. Look if you've got a Pentium 233 or greater with 64MB of RAM and 52MB of hard drive space, you can run the latest version of Firefox on your ME machine. Don't argue just do it. Your chances of successfully building a site that makes sense to the rest of the world when you're viewing your results through IE5.5 are even less than the % of web browsers still using it (2% during May according to thecounter.com).

Your site looks fine in the less buggy browsers available to me, so you're expending all your effort trying to fix problems that have been created by Microsoft and can only be seen by a small percentage of other web users. And if by sheer persistence you succeed in making your site look good on your screen, that will probably just mean that you've broken it for the rest of us.

I have a protocol that I call the "life's too short" protocol. This would be a good time to adopt and invoke it.

Re: Free Template "Future Zen"

Hey kuroi,

Thank you so much for making this template. It is a HUGE jumpstart / nudge in the direction of editing templates. So thank you.

I had a quick question for you, I tried to edit the colors from the blue to a boring green to help alleviate my extreme boredom today, and it seems that I failed on some part, and I can't quite figure out what I did.

Here are two screen shots of the currencies box:
Your correct shot:

Here is my failed attempt:

Moreover, what the "issue" is, is that either the sides of the side boxes are extending too far, or I've edited the sidebox_top or bottom files too much so they're cutting off too early.

Other than that, I've read through and you and everyone else in this forum answered just about every single question I could think of and then some.

Thanks again.

Rather it looks most likely to me that this is a manifestation of the tpl_shopping_cart.php bug, that happens when a customer puts something into his or her shopping cart without logging in first. You would have had the same problem if you followed those steps before you changed the graphics.

There is a bug report here. Just scroll to my entry at or near the end where you will find a file to download and instructions as to where to put it.

Hi,
I can't seem to find where I can change or remove the text that says "tag line here" on the header image. I am obvously going to change the header image, but like the idea of keeping that text box up there.
Thanks
Pete
