Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

cocolala:

I have installed but can't edit from the Define Pages Editor.

It says:

Error: I can not write to this file. Please set the right user permissions on: /home/box/domains/natureinabox.com.my/public_html/includes/languages/english/html_includes/define_editable_sidebox_content.php

What should I do to correct it?You need to make the file writeable. You web hosting account should have a file manage in its control panel that would allow you to do this. The tool you use to FTP the files into your hosting account may also allow this.

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

chanrkl:

I've installed it fine for one version but multiple sideboxes seem to be pulling the same data from the first. i copied and renamed the additional files from the first one.

are there any additional changes that need to be done?It's noty enough to change the filenames. You also need to change the places inside the files where there the filename are used.

Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread

Quick question Kuroi,

I want to use this your mod to create sideboxes that pull in WordPress content. I found this link http://www.corvidworks.com/articles/wordpress-content-on-other-pages which explains how to do it, and it seems fairly straight forward. Where I need a nudge in the right direction is where in your contribution would I place this code... Would you be so kind as to take a look at what I plan to do and grade my homework as it were?? (Pretty please??!):smile:

I was planning on making the changes to the includes/languages/english/html_includes/define_editable_sidebox1_content.php as follows:

<p>This text is located in a file in your english/html_includes/ folder</code></p>
<p>It is intended to be edited via the Define Pages Editor in Admin > Tools, though you can also edit it directly if you prefer.</p>
<p>And don't forget to always backup the files in this folder.</p>

<?php
// Include Wordpress
define('WP_USE_THEMES', false);
require('./blog/wp-load.php');
query_posts('showposts=3');
?>

<?php while (have_posts()): the_post(); ?>
<h2><?php the_title(); ?></h2>
<?php the_excerpt(); ?>
<p><a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>">Read more...</a></p>
<?php endwhile; ?>
```Is this the right way to execute this?? or would I add this code elsewhere in your module??
Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread
Thanks for a fantastic module.
I have it installed and am using it for my Payment Methods.
I found it easier to upload the code for the image to
/includes/languages/english/html_includes/
than using the define page editor (for a simple fact, the editor leaves unecessary white spaces at the bottom and top).
Thank-you once again.
Kind Regards
Is this the right way to execute this?? or would I add this code elsewhere in your module??Apologies DivaVocals - only just seen your question. Old joke I know ... but if I was doing this I wouldn't start from here! I'd start from the blank sidebox, which was specifically designed to make it easier to add your own content to a sidebox skeleteon. This mod is an extension to blank sidebox to put in place extra code to allow content to be added from the Admin, which for your purposes is unwanted baggage. No matter though, it should work anyway.
The way that you have done this should work, but doesn't really respect the separation between preparing data and displayiong it that is fairly well observed in Zen Cart's sideboxes. They normally load up the content into a variable called (I think) $content in a module, which is then echoed to the browser output in the sidebox template.
That said, if what you've done is working for you, I wouldn't spend time reworking it. I won't tell :wink2:
I ended up (with the help of a friend who's MUCH techier than I) doing exactly what you suggest.. So now I have 6 sideboxes which pull in WordPress content independent of any WordPress embedding solution I may use.. (In this case I will be using Numinix's WordPress embedding solution)
DivaVocals,
Would you mind sharing your solution?
I know there are many of us that would love to have WordPress in a sidebox.
Thanks!
Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread
I had a call from a customer saying that my pages were pushed to the far right while being viewed with IE 7. I'm aware that this version of Explorer has issues that most other browsers handle without a problem and I'm also sure that my lack of design knowledge is contributing to this issue. The code required to display "The Find" logo causes this logo to "leak" outside the sidebox and push everything to the right in IE 7 and older. How may I prevent this from happening?
Thank you,
Mark
Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread
Having two problems with Editable_Sidebox_1.0. First is that in FF the link I have added to the image does not work and second in IE the image and link does not work. As you can see I am adding a facebook link. I have tried the Facebook addon with no success so I thought I would go this route. https://www.maynardstackle.com any suggestions and thank you in advance.
Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread
Fixed the problem with the IE issue but still cannot figure out the correct way to add the facebook link.
The IE issue was that there was a empty space in the hyper link.
Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread
Yes, you can ... though I can't help feeling that this is only part of your question. And I'm not sure why you'd want to start insert DIVs directly rather than using an HTML editor in the admin which was what the box was designed for.
Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread
If you want to put it in a sidebox, then the blank sidebox mod would be a better starting place.
(Note: theis the Admin Editible Sidebox mod support thread, for a sidebox whose contents are intended to be edited from the Zen Cart Admin)
Re: Admin-Editable Sidebox - Support Thread
Hi all,
I'm trying to add an image in the editable sidebox from defines pages editor, but when choosing the image url (e.g.: /web/zencart/images/skate_board003.gif -anything wrong there?-), and the click on preview, it appears "object not found".
So I dont' understand what's the problem..
thanks
