Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Semenek:

Hi, after activated SEO URL - "Reset" button for Manufacturer list stopped working. If I click on it - it show 404 error - page not found.

Please, advise..

Just in case - if anybody has same problem.. this is my solution - contact your hosting provider FIRST!!!!

In my case it was problem with hosting.. SEO URL was also not working with "add to cart" and my hosting company was telling me that it was internal zen cart problem with ports and I tried to fix it for days.. Finally, when I tried everything and could not fix it and hosting refused to help me - I changed my hosting company to GoDaddy - and big surprise - everything was working perfect!!

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Hello,

Im having some problems with getting SSU to work on my site :(

I am on v1.3.9h and am trying to get SSU v3.8.5 to work but both these pages are blank: http://www.gothic-store.co.uk/zencart/zcadmin/ssu.php and http://www.gothic-store.co.uk/zencart/ssu_check.php

I have upload all the folders and files to my zencart root folder and then followed the instructions at http://wiki.rubikintegration.com/zencart/modules/ssu/installation but still no luck :(

Could someone please help me work this out as I need to make sure its all working before I can move it across to the root of my site to go live.

Thanks,
Nathaniel

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Hi

How do I remove the -p-1, -p-2 etc. from the end of the url?

For example: change http://www.mysite.com/product-name-p-1

to

http://www.mysite.com/product-name

Anyone have the answer? I've tried messing around in the admin area, even with the character length and no luck.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

When I had my blank pages and bits missing from the admin, I had to change file permissions to 644 and 755 so read the install and check your file permissions match.

Also check your htaccess is not conflicting with it as I think mine was due to me already adding some lines of code to the htaccess (my default file) which was conflicting with that of SSU.

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

I had this mod working on 1.3.8 for a few days, then noticed links had stopped working and some pages complained about too many redirects. Clearing the cache fixed this, but I don't want to have to do this every few days to keep the site running properly. In the config there is a cache reset time setting, but it advises users that this is set automatically and not to change it. Mine is...

"Cache reset time 1318983920"

Not sure what the number represents.

I'd like to set it so it clears the cache every day. How can I do this?
thanks

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

I was having problems with a blank page in:
admin -> extras -> simple seo url manager

Realized I had missed the "install module manager" step - "module manager" is a completely separate module, which wasn't clear to me.

There also aren't any instructions to rename the 'admin' folder to what your 'admin' folder actually is.

Finally, my cache/ssu/ contained no subfolders, which lead to other problems.

It works now though - brilliant module.

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Having an issue with cache/ssu/pc folder filling up. I have only 182 products, but over 100,000 files have piled up in there. Is there a way to make it clear every now and then, is it OK to clear it, and any other guidance would be appreciated. Thanks for a great module!

simple seo url v3.5.8 (or maybe 3.8.5 -- both appear)

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Not sure if this will help you or not...
Admin -> Configuration -> Simple SEO URL -> Set Auto Alias Status -> True

This gets rid of the P-10/etc for me so that it's JUST the product name in the URL.

I prefer to get rid of the extension as well. There is no SEO impact for it, it looks cleaner to the end user and is more legible in the SERPs.

I also remove the "www." from my URLs for this reason.

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Admin -> Configuration -> Simple SEO URL -> Cache Reset Time -> change it to this (it's in seconds IIRC).
Every day = 606024 = 86400

It is OK to clear.

It shouldn't be creating that many files though, I get the impression something is wrong.

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

Two things.
1st. Does anyone know how to get SSU it distinguish between two installs of zencart on the same hosting but on different domains?

2nd. Does anyone know how to get the shopping cart part of SSU disabled so the customer can edit their cart without putting another item into it and having the old one still there?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

1st are both installs looking at the same database?

2nd shopping cart should be excluded from the parameters of SSU in the exclude list in the admin setting.

Re: Simple SEO URL (OLD version) [support thread]

fecomm:

If a URL has a plus sign (+) in a dynamic URL, it creates an indefinitely redirect loop. How can this be fixed?

Did this ever get answered? We're getting this with the advanced search (even though 'advanced_search' is in the exclude list).

What happens is a link that looks like this with SSU off...

http://www.partywebsite.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&search_in_description=1&keyword=barbie&inc_subcat=0&sort=20a&action=multiple_products_add_product

...looks like this with it on...

http://www.partywebsite.co.uk/?search_in_description=1&keyword=barbie&inc_subcat=0&sort=20a&action=multiple_products_add_product

...which still works, unless the user searches for a multi-word product and the keyword goes into the querystring like this...

1st+birthday

...whereas it should be...

1st%20birthday

Any clues how to fix this? Seems like it should be simple, but I can't work it out.

Thanks.

Sorry, I'll try that again, forum wouldn't let me correct my last post...

I don't get why it is removing part of the string here but it still works ok, unless the user searches for a multi-word product and the keyword then goes into the querystring like this...

Yes they are both looking at the same database. though I only want the new site to look at it and not translate the domain to the old one.

Also if I add in shopping_cart into both excludes lists it still does not work. What is the correct code?

Thank you, but which files need to change permissions to 644 and 755? I have combed the install instructions but I can't find that info.
