Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

Firstly, I don't see any additional images (random or otherwise) on the page that loads using the link you provided.

Secondly, the product image displayed on the page that loads using the link you provided seems to match the product description.

Therefore, I don't see the problem you are describing.

However, it sounds like what you are describing is a problem that is caused by improper image file naming. The IH3 READ_ME has an entire section dedicated to helping you avoid this problem.

Look at the Troubleshooting tab, under the section "Prepare Your Site For Growth" for an in depth tutorial on image file naming.

SethF:

Hi

Could someone please help me urgently with a problem that Image Handler 3 has?

Image hander is assigning random images to products without me doing a thing. It puts random additional images in - which are a mission to change since I am going to have a large product database.

Please see this page to understand what I am talking about:

pcselect.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=62_192_194&products_id=548

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks
S

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

DarkAngel:

We were all in the same boat at one time too...unknowing and I am still learning so no worries.

  1. you are not uploading the folder to the server so no overwriting will occur. you open the folder on your desktop and only transfer the files from each nestled folder to the matching folder on your server---for instance includes/languages/english files on your desktop will go into that exact same path on the server.

if you are not using the classic default theme then in some area you may have a folder with your templates name (this is an override folder) and your desktop files will go there...still following the path.

most creators will place a folder called your_template then files inside it...that is your clue to create a folder in that area with the templates name to place the contents into it.

  1. yes you are

  2. what other mods do you have...and most likely if you installed the mod you would have had to edit the files manually. with this mod -- fortunately-- the majority of the files are labled with bmz_ but there are files that are named exactly as the ones on the server. with some of those files I can usually disable the original ones by placing a ~ at the end of the file name--like header.php gets changed to header.php~ then the new file can be uploaded without fear of overwriting...thus if something doesn't work right you just remove it with its other related files you uploaded from whichever mod you used.

Just in case I always keep a copy of the files from the server on my computer so that if for some reason they should get corrupted I just need to replace the file...and always have them current each month since there are usually a lot of changes I do to something or another...lol

hope that helps and I did not confuse you more.

Thanks DarkAngel,

Most of what you said makes perfect since. I have not installed any Mods yet myself. This is my first attempt. I am using Clyde Jones' Desert Noon Template. It has these features:
Features:

  • Fixed width 3 column display
  • Colors: Styled in Sage Green, Yellow, Tan and Blue.
  • Customized button set included.
*** Per-page CSS stylesheets to style individual pages.
  • Better Categories Sidebox installed.
  • Order Steps (tableless) installed.**
  • Date in Header.
  • Tested using Firefox, IE7, Opera, Safari.

I would think that the three I bolded above could have problems with files that might want to be overwritten. My plan is to make 2 backups of my site to a portable hardrive (dedicated to web stuff). I will open one of them and add all the files as you said from IH3 and then go back to my web server and delete the test folder I have that contains my site and upload the new test site (backup) I worked on above.

My question is this. When I am copying files from IH3 to my backup site, as mentioned above, when I attempt to copy a file that already exists, it will want to overwrite this file. Is it at this time that I say "No" and then put the two files into WinMerge and compare and merge the files? Right? How do I know where in the file the merge is to take place? Does the merged part of the file just go at the end of the file or do I have to know exactly where it is to be placed?? I hope that wasn't too confusing, it sure was for me  I have not used WinMerge yet, this will be my first attempt. Hopefully not my last.

It is late so I will look for an answer tomorrow. Thanks for all your help, greatly appreciated.

Of the 3 you have bolded I am not sure that they will have anything to do with this mod.
Without any mods installed and IF this is not a paid for theme (many change the coding so much that it makes installing mods a real problem....you might not have troubles with just overwriting the originals...but put them aside for safe keeping, just in case

these will be the ones to look out for :

From required edit folder
your admin folder/includes/modules/category_product_listing.php

includes/modules/pages/pop_image (if you have it if not then just upload this folder otherwise the header_php.php file

and the popup_image additional/header_php.php

your template/popup_images_additional (if you have none then upload entire folder

the items from the Install file folder should be alright to upload each to its respective folders

as for the editing of files...I use my macintosh to manually edit anything for the servers I work on...I tried winmerge and it and notepad++ totally confused the heck out of me. I use text wrangle for macintosh to edit...it and bbedit

The quick answer to your question is this, ANY FILES in the "2_Required_Core_Edits" folder modify files that MAY have been modified by other add-ons you may have installed.. If this is the case you will need to use a file comparison program to determine what those differences are and merge the files.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but this support thread is not the right place for providing instructions on how to use a file merging program.. If you need specific help on how to merge files, you should either consult the help file for the file merging program of your choice or post you file merging questions in a more appropriate place in this forum.. You may also want to consider hiring someone to help you with this task if you are still unsure how to go about doing the file merges..

Thanks again DarkAngel, getting closer to a good understanding. One other question. When I come across a folder (bmz_cache for instance), this folder is not on my system, of course, do I add it manually and does it go in the /store or does it go in one of the folders that contains template override (desert_noon)?

Diva, I hope you don't take this the wrong way. I have been spending the last 2 weeks reading enough threads to keep me up at night. I fully understand and appreciate the need for subject matter to be related to the thread at hand, but from the view point of a newbie, it's all related in some way. There are many threads, including this one, that have had unrelated subjects mentioned that, I for one, greatly appreciate because even though it was unrelated, it answered a valuable question and prevented me from having to do 3 more days of thread reading. One that comes to mind is the subject of file naming. Good stuff to know. If I had not read it in this thread, I may never have come across it and made the same mistake a lot have (not that I won't anyway  ). That being said, are you the site monitor that you take it upon yourself to harass us poor newbies by constantly reminding of this? It just seems to me that if you personally would put as much energy into answering a simple question as you do in repeating the same message over and over; this is not the appropriate place speach, this thread would be much more informative, which, if I am not mistaken, is the purpose of a forum, is it not??
Again, please don't take this the wrong way. I am not trying to start an argument over this and neither am I being a Bit..:censored:. But if you go back and look at all your posts about "Please Read the ReadMe File, please, no unrelated posts, etc, etc. This posts amount to at least 5 pages of wasted valuable space that could have been used in answering simple questions.

If I had not read it in this thread, I may never have come across it and made the same mistake a lot have (not that I won't anyway  ).Filenaming is related since one of the common errors reported in this thread has EVERYTHING to do with proper file naming. This is also why there is a fair bit of information covering file naming included in the IH3 readme file.

FukienMan:

That being said, are you the site monitor that you take it upon yourself to harass us poor newbies by constantly reminding of this? It just seems to me that if you personally would put as much energy into answering a simple question as you do in repeating the same message over and over; this is not the appropriate place speach, this thread would be much more informative, which, if I am not mistaken, is the purpose of a forum, is it not??I post reminders about off-topic discussion in the name of keeping this support thread from being cluttered with off-topic discussions. The fact of the matter is how to use a file merging program is NOT on topic for this support thread. The need to use a file merging program is NOT unique to installing IH3. A file merging program is a tool that shop owners will find useful when installing ANY mod which contains modifications to existing store files. Detailed discussions on how to use these tools is not an IH3 support topic and therefore any detailed discussion on this topic should be moved to a more appropriate place.. (hence the suggestion to which you are offended by?? why?? You say you are a "newbie" I was trying to help by providing you with some information.. you read into this as some kind of harassment..)

I PERSONALLY put a LOT of time into answering questions here.. I personally put a lot of time into crafting a detailed readme file to make the installation and use of this add-on easier. Why is it considered harassment to suggest that these documents be consulted versus simply parroting here in the forum what's already written in the readme document? If there is a part of the document that is unclear, I am happy to clarify anything that is unclear.

FukienMan:

Again, please don't take this the wrong way. I am not trying to start an argument over this and neither am I being a Bit..:censored:. So it is MORE helpful to just repost the readme versus reminding folks to use a source which contains the answers to their questions?? Hmmmm.. okay..

You say you put a lot of time and effort into the readme file. No doubt you did. But in all honesty, you could have done better. No offense. It's just that your statement, "simply copy all the folders and files to your store", (and you never mentioned the word root in your instructions) is not, in my opinion a good instruction, it tells a person nothing. When giving these kinds of instructions, you should not assume that every one has been doing Zen for 5 years. Have you read the book "eStart your web store with Zen Cart" the one that is advertised all over Zen?? This is a very concise book and easy to understand because it does not assume we are all experts.

As a newbie, yes, it offends me to be contently bombarded (better word then harassed) with the statements in this thread, read the readme, dont' ask unrelated questions, etc. For gods sakes, we are newbies, cut us a break!!! When something is new to you, I don't care how many times you read a readme, you are going to miss something or not understand what the heck was said. To constantly, and I mean constantly, tell people to read the readme file is a another way of calling us stupid. Do I think you should answer the question instead of saying, Read the Readme, yes I do. You said it would clutter up the thread with redundant stuff that is already in the readme. Well what's the difference when you constantly say, Read the Readme???????? That is just as much Clutter! If you would just answer the question it would serve everyone's purpose of learning. And like I said, is that not the purpose of a forum?? If it bothers you so much to answer peoples questions, why are you here in the first place??

So that means the WHOLE readme is crap?? Got it.. Thanks for making that clear.. The volunteers who worked on the readme with me will be happy to hear that all of our hard work "could have done better." And for the record, we did not ASSUME anything about anyone. We simply tried to provide good information which is why the current readme is as detailed as it is.

You asked some clarifying questions about installation and they were answered. You asked questions about how to use file merging software and when I suggested that you address how-to questions for file merging software to a more appropriate place, you turned that into some anti-newbie commentary..

You've made it clear that you are of the belief that no one should read the documents. They should just come here and ask all the questions they want and the volunteers who DID read the documents should just simply answer their questions.. And no need to keep topics on point, just post any old question you like anywhere you like.. Got your POV loud and clear..

The bottomline is this is a volunteer effort .. I believe that it's unfair to expect volunteers do ALL of the work for others including newbies.. The fact is the people answering IH3 support questions did read the documents and the information in this support thread. When they had questions not covered in the readme or not covered clearly in the readme they asked questions.. ALL of us here started out as newbies..

Do I mind answering questions if something in the readme is unclear to someone?? Not at all.. and neither does anyone else who worked on the current IH3 readme.. Do I mind answering questions which are CLEARLY covered in the readme?? YES.. especially if it's clear that the readme has NOT been read before the question was posted.. (and I am NOT alone in this thinking.. and I am not the only one who's reminded folks to read the readme file before asking questions)

I wish you luck with your IH3 install..

You have totally missed the point. And I never said half the things you said I did or even implied them.
*
You've made it clear that you are of the belief that no one should read the documents.*

I never said that and I never implied it. I said WHEN we** do** read the files, we don't always understand what we read and need help. Pretty simple.

  • They should just come here and ask all the questions they want and the volunteers who DID read the documents should just simply answer their questions..

DUH...... yeah, that's what a forum is for!!!!!!!

  • I believe that it's unfair to expect volunteers do ALL of the work for others including newbies..

Nobody is asking you to do ALL the work, just answer a question.

This statement tells me a lot. And again I ask you (not that you listened) don't take this the wrong way. I don't envy you with all the "Stupid" questions. It has to be exasperating to hear the same question over and over. And I understand why you say, go back and read the readme. But that doesn't make it right. When you hear a question you should treat this question as though this is the first time it has been asked. Not, oh god here we go again with this stupid question. It is a sign of a good teacher who can do this. I have read more than my share of threads here and there are not that many that are handled like this thread. Most are very willing to answer, like DarkAngel. It is probably the 10th time she/he heard that question, but it got answered, politely without calling the person stupid, go read the readme.

Can you imagine the state of our education system if every professor told every student with a question, "Go read the book, the answer is in there"? What that tells me is that the teacher doesn't know the answer.

All I am saying is that you need to cut back on your use of "read the readme, don't post unrelated stuff, etc, etc. It really makes a person feel unwelcome and unappreciated as a person who has a problem that needs and answer.

And that is all I am going to say on the subject. I am here to learn, not argue.

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

I'm not going to continue this back and forth.. Bottomline is you took personal offense to my suggestion about taking off topic questions to a more appropriate place on the forum and blew it out of proportion with this whole "not helping newbies" discussion..

So let me summarize..

I have no problem answering questions when things are not clear in the readme.. When and IF I have re-directed someone back to the readme it is because the question they asked is covered in the readme, and it appears based on the question that they may not have read it or missed it. If the issue is that they need clarification on what's in the readme, I do hope they will post a question asking for clarification which I am happy to answer..

Moving on..

Hi guy

I have the problem with my website, sometimes is really slow, so i try to check how to improve the speed of my site...

I have look the code of my page, i have this before /head :

<script src="/A2EB891D63C8/avg_ls_dom.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="includes/templates/12541/jscript/jscript_imagehover.js"></script> </head>

I think that script "jscript_imagehover.js" is about IH3 is correct?

i dont know what is avg_ls_dom.js maybe about my template?? i have a monster template installed, but i dont have a folder A2EB891D63C8 so what is?!!?

I think that this script is better at bottom of the page before body or not ? how can i move this code??

What do you think? is better to move the script of IH3 at the end of the page for improve the speed of the website??

thanks

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

The IH3 javascript by itself should not cause a performance issue, but other javascripts may not play well with it.. This is not an issue to be resolved on the IH3 support thread as it is not truly an IH3 caused issue IMHO. This is something you should instead take up with Template Monstrosity since it is likely that their javascript is the cause of your issue..

Image Handler is working fine as you've not reported a specific issue with Image Handler. Your questions relate to website performance and how to modify Zen Cart (not Image Handler) to change the order in which ALL your javascripts load (not JUST the Image Handler javascript).. This support thread is not the right place for this question/discussion.. I would suggest posting your question in a more appropriate place on the forum so that your question can be properly addressed..

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

I used godaddy hosting, but they have some limite as can't have more than 1024 files in per folder,so i must clear the bmz_cache folder every day,it's tried for me,so i need use cron job to clear the bmz_cache folder every day,and because i have no to do it in some days, then the godaddy workers closed my hosting.

1.but i don't know how to set it in godaddy cron job manager, please let me know the command.

2.If you can help us more,i hope you can fix this problem for godaddy hosting user: let the different cache picture to differrent folders,as bmz_cache/Large_cache/ and bmz_cache/M_cache/ ..., limite files number for per folders, and when the pictures files over the number, then it auto to creat files to other folders.if the script will be so cool, then godaddys user will be happy more.

Now i limite the files less than 1024 in per folders and set faile for Image Handler2,but have many new products and many old products must use oriange picture, and the picture too big,so the site very very slowly now. it will cost about 10s to open full.

Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread (for ZC v1.3.9)

Ok, can't find it in the documentation anywhere. I installed IH3, everything seems to be working. So I uploaded a large image, is it not suppose to automatically generate the med and small image? All that happens is all three images (lrg, med, small) are the same size. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Image sizes are handled in the image settings.. There are two sections in the readme which cover this. One reviews images in the store correspond to the small and medium images and then the section on the image settings goes over each of the image settings..

Suggest reviewing these sections and review your image settings.. Please come back if anything in the readme is unclear..
