Yahootreemenu with ajax.

Andrew_Yer:

Woodymon:
Could you provide the URL of your website with YATM installed?

Andrew:

I wish I could. It's on a test/demo shop on my laptop server.

UPDATE:

I just moved the three JS related files to the includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/jscript/
directory and the category links now display.

I thought I had tested this previously but discovered I had copies of files in both
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/jscript/

  • AND -
    includes/templates/template_default/jscript/

I find this strange? Why do overrides fail in this scenario?

Any recommends on altering this YTM mod so to not absorb the performance hit which occurs when the JS files are not in in template_default (as you previously described)?

Thanks,
Woody

Re: Yahootreemenu with ajax.

Now that I have the YMT categories displaying, I am wondering is there might be any method available to also display product links in the uncollapsed sub category menus? This would be a useful feature for shops without too many products.

Of course for this to work very short or abbreviated product names would be required. So rahter than use the actual product name field could use an additional field provided by the "short description" mod (or create a similar special field for menu usage).

Customers could then navigate directly to the product_info page link without having to visit a product_listing page.

Then while a customer navigated for products via the YTM menu sidebox, a full sreen refresh would not be required, until the product_info page link is clicked on by the customer (with ajax implemented).

And at the same time would be best to disable the ability to navigate to the product_listing pages from the categories sidebox. Instead product_listing pages can be easily navigated via category links or tabs in the menu bar, etc.

Is this a possibility? Or has this idea been implemented in a different categories sidebox mod?

Thanks,
Woody

Woody:
Thank you for good idea. I'm preparing new release of the YTM now. I'll try to implement this mechanism in it.

But I did a clean install of the files and the categories aren't showing up at all.

anyone else having that problem? or did the new files work perfect for everyone else???

Re: Yahootreemenu with ajax.

Very nice module indeed. Thanks for the contribution! :)

I've run into a small issue. Maybe it's because I still need to update from 1.3.5 to 1.3.6, but when i enable
define('YAHOOTREEMENU_SHOW_CATEGORY_LINK', true);

the homepage shows this error:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /var/www/localhost/htdocs/teststore/includes/templates/template_default/sideboxes/tpl_yahootreemenu.php on line 217

But as soon as i click a category, the error goes away and the module correctly takes me to the category description pages.

Yes, this is known issue. Its need to check the range of the array. Will be fixed in the next release.

Re: Yahootreemenu with ajax.

Is there a workaround for the warning that shows on the home page?

Would love to use the catgory link feature, before the next release.
Thanks in advance!

:-)

Wendy

The workaround is:

In the includes/templates/template_default/sideboxes/tpl_yahootreemenu.php
find (~ 217 line) the code

       foreach ($categories[$expanded[$i]]['child_list'] as $cat) {
          $ret .= renderNode($categories, $cat, $expanded[$i], $categories[$cat]['child_count'], ($categories[$cat]['categories_id'] == $expanded[$i+1]) and ($i < $iter_num - 1), $cat == $expanded[$i + 1], YAHOOTREEMENU_WITHOUT_AJAX);
        }

And replace it with the code:

      if (is_array($categories[$expanded[$i]]['child_list'])) {
        foreach ($categories[$expanded[$i]]['child_list'] as $cat) {
          $ret .= renderNode($categories, $cat, $expanded[$i], $categories[$cat]['child_count'], ($categories[$cat]['categories_id'] == $expanded[$i+1]) and ($i < $iter_num - 1), $cat == $expanded[$i + 1], YAHOOTREEMENU_WITHOUT_AJAX);
        }
      }

Re: Yahootreemenu with ajax.

great contribution :)

Only one downfall to it that I can see so far..

in Firefox, the menu looks great. But in IE.. it looks pretty plain. The arrows that show up in FF do not show up in IE, neither does the hover effect or the small loading image. Any fixes for this that I may have missed?

Thanks!

I had this same problem. The workaround i used was copying tree.css included with the module to my templates css directory and renaming it to stylesheet_tree.css

Re: Yahootreemenu with ajax.

  1. Fixed some issues in the html-layout. The menu is valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS now.

  2. Demo-site is updated.

The v1.0 will be released soon.

The readme explains their are new switches in /includes/extradatafiles/yahootreemenu.php which can be set true or false. Did changing any of those help?
