Improved Attributes Controller (now built-in to v1.3.9)

Ajeh:

Browse your products_options_values table and make sure you have a setting for:

If not, you need to add it with:

INSERT INTO products_options_values (products_options_values_id, language_id, products_options_values_name) VALUES (0, 1, 'TEXT');

>
> Do you have Image Handler or other add-ons?Just the lady I was hoping to hear from!!!!:D I have a ton of add-ons I consider "must haves" including Image Handler, Edit Orders and Super Orders. Only a few of my clients use product attributes where the Option Type is text which is probably why I never noticed the problem until now..

After I posted this I did some digging and found the other thread where you posted another SQL fix.. I ran it, and got no joy..

On my way to work I mapped out my plan to repair the database. I was all prepared to drop my DB and start from scratch until I found the offending add-on.. Thank goodness now there's no need to do this ugly exercise.. This little gem solved the issue and works with the default attributes controller... Now I can restore the Improved Attributes Controller!!!:D Thanks ever so much for the assist!!!

Which Add-on was causing you grief on this? Always handy to know ... :smile:Honestly at this point I have NO IDEA which add-on caused the issue:censored:.. otherwise I'd be all too happy to share my findings so that others may benefit.. As it turns out, your suggested fix in this thread solved my problem.. Had it not worked, I was prepared to roll up my sleeves this evening to dump my DB tables and start over from scratch to find the offending add-on.. If I had to hazzard a guess, I'd say based on my research that IH seems to be the likely culprit.. At some point if and when my time permits, I'm gonna setup a test store to track down the add-on which caused the issue.. I'll be happy to share my findings..

Re: Improved Attributes Controller (now built-in to v1.3.9)

I have a situation I just can not wrap my brain around.

Boots:
Widths are:
E
EE
EEE
etc.

However some sizes are NOT available in certain widths. I need a way to allow buyers to select attributes like Width, then have ONLY those sizes that are available for that Width displayed in a drop down.

I know this MUST be possible, but I'm not a footwear salesman. How do I go about setting up the Attribute Controller options and values to make this happen?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Improved Attributes Controller (now built-in to v1.3.9)

I wish you luck on this one. I have a customer that has 8 different brands of shoes/boot etc. Each has a different way of doing sizing. This is a nightmare for us as we maintain the inventory.

I have advanced Easy Populate, that I had hopes of being able to manage this better; however the author is missing in action and never completed the development for attributes.

You are going to be faced with what we are faced with, which is creating multiple sets of attributes. We have to combine the size and width on each size. This had made our attributes table absolutely huge!! Attributes are not dependent.

I've read that maybe someday that could be written into the core in the future, and with the complexity of the attributes system, I have not even thought of tackling such an endeavor as to modify the system to function that way.

In other words I have sizes as my only attribute - In sizes as values I have one set done this way( 6.0 - N, 6.0 - M, 6.0 - W) another set due to mfg. differences (6.0 - B, 6.0 C, 6.0 - E, 6.0 -EE, 6.0 - EEE) I have a third set as they don't use width at all. This is done from sizes 4 to 15!!

We have to constantly add and remove attributes as different sizes/widths are in and out of stock on each shoe. We currently have over 2000 shoes!!!

I have one person that does nothing but update inventory every day!! It's a nightmare for us, but at this time there is not a method at least that is apparent to me to fix this issue. I've thought of using attribute by stock, but again, we're dealing with "dependent" attributes... so that doesn't work for us.

If you find a solution I would be thrilled to hear about it. But we've been doing this for the last year and a half manually!!

Re: Improved Attributes Controller (now built-in to v1.3.9)

I am running into a challeng even with this great add on.

I am trying to offer software lessons as a virtual product.
Each lesson will have several downloads.
How do I create a product that is going to have say:

Lesson 1
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

Lesson 2
Part 1
Part 2

Lesson 3
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5

Available after they place their order?

Currently I am not getting all of the lessons or parts to select from the download area after the order is confirmed.

Re: Improved Attributes Controller (now built-in to v1.3.9)

Hi Guys,
Is there a mod that does the same thing for the customers who are viewing my site? I sell fine art photographs, and what I'd like to happen is this: A customer chooses a photo they like. On the product info page they have the option to select one of the following options (via a dropdown menu): a Fine Art Print, or a Canvas Print. Then, depending on which option they choose, a second dropdown menu has choices for the different sizes and prices. So in the second dropdown, the sizes/prices are shown only for the print type the customers choose in the first dropdown. Any sweet tips on how to accomplish something like that?

Thanks a million

Josh

Re: Improved Attributes Controller (now built-in to v1.3.9)

You might want to start a separate thread to ask this question as this really does not pertain specifically to the Improved Attributes Controller mod.. However the quick answer to your question is this.. What you are asking about is a "Conditional Attribute" (the available values presented for one attribute is determined by the value you select for another). This feature is not supported in the current 1.3.8 flavor of Zen Cart.. I dunno if it is a feature of the upcoming 2.0 off the top of my head.. I don't think there's an add-on for it either (don't quote me on this though..) Another option is posting a request for this in the commercial requests forum.. HTH

OK, a little follow up. A you can now see on this page: http://primeservicesglobal.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=1

You can see that I was able to get the attributes to format as desired. There is a pattern to it, however it is soewhat cumbersome. Sure would be great if someone would write a product manager to group pieces and parts into one product more easily.

The format of the Option Names is
Lesson 1 as a Read Only Value
The option Value is set to the Lesson Name
Lesson 1 Files (These will be the option values for the number of components involved in the lessons zip file and other files)
For each lesson any number of attributes is asigned to equal the number of components that make up the lesson.
Then in the Attribute controller, the attributes are added,
First the lesson number (lesson name Value)
Then each lesson Files value until all of the downloadable files are linked.

Re: Improved Attributes Controller (now built-in to v1.3.9)

this is not working on my v.1.3.8a. Uploaded the file and the Options Name and Values box is empty, apart from the title "Options Name" and "options Value" in the respective box, which are selected. If I view source all the Options Names and Values are there in the Javascript, but they are not being added to the select boxes.

I get this javascript error in the error console:-

Error: unterminated string literal
Source File: http://www.mydomain.co.uk/admin/attributes_controller.php?products_filter=1&current_category_id=2
Line: 949, Column: 15
Source Code:
TCN_addContent("Options+#+1+#+15\-40

Anyone know a reason why this would not work?

Re: Improved Attributes Controller (now built-in to v1.3.9)

dont worry, I spotted the issue. Some options values had a line return in them (even though this did not show in the options values manager or on the website). So this was breaking the javascript. Fixing the options values fixed the issue. This is an excellent add on.

Re: Improved Attributes Controller (now built-in to v1.3.9)

Hi..was the issue in the Improved Attributes Controller.php or in the options values manager.php
It was a problem with the options names.

I sometimes import product data, options etc direct to the database from files customers have. The options were imported from data they gave me. I did not realise but some options had a line return in them. These options worked fine in Zencart with the line return so I never knew it was there. When this attribute_controller was installed, the line return spread the Javascript line with those options onto two lines which made the Javascript not work.

Works like a charm! It saved me much time! A must have and I recommend this function to be included in the next zen-cart released version.

Re: Improved Attributes Controller (now built-in to v1.3.9)

I am having a problem that may, or may not, have to do with improved attribute controller.

As of today products that have attributes are not added to the cart.

To be more specific products that have had their attributes edited recently are not added to the cart.

Other products that have same attributes and are in the same category are added to the cart fine.

Up until recently the products that are not being added to the cart were being added to the cart fine.

The code looks fine to me on the page so I am a bit confused to say the least.:shocking:

The easiest page to see this on is a product listing page ( I have added the attributes to the product listing page ) but the same effect occurs on the product info page which I have not edited ( or not much anyway )

The only thing I can think of is that I have started using improved product attibute controller in the interim. Not sure why this would have this effect but am exploring every avenue.

The page is: http://www.starlessriver.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1

I have tried creating a new product from scratch, still will not be added to the cart. I have tried copying an existing product that still works - the copy doesn't work.

The third product on the page is one of the original products that works the way I expect.

I am kind of hoping someone says, oh yes that is the gizmo effect and all you need to do is....

Otherwise I am pretty stumped.

Re: Improved Attributes Controller (now built-in to v1.3.9)

I doubt it was this mod.. Your issue is most likely some character or formatting issue with your attributes that is surfacing now. (Most likely this is an emerging issue due to the recent changes to the attributes)

Read through this thread, and do some searching on the forum for other attribute related issues.. Nearly all can be traced back to attributes containing characters or text or space, or something else strange within in them..

Re: Improved Attributes Controller (now built-in to v1.3.9)

thanks divavocals.

well, I am searching like mad, believe me!

The attributes are the same as the ones that are used on other products that work fine. And actually the attributes themselves are the only things that haven't been altered since day one.
