Display all categories+products on one page

I think I was not accurate in my earlier posting, Actually the sub sub category products are getting listed in my test server (not in my real server, but I might have done something wrong while installing the mod) but the real problem I am having is with the order in which they are displayed.
For example I am having three sub categories say SubCat 1, SubCat 2 and SubCat 3. SubCat2 and Subcat 3 have few products and in SubCat 1 sub category, there is a sub sub category called SubsubCat 1. So when somebody clicks the main category name the SubCat 2 and SubCat3 products are displayed first and below that the SubsubCat 1 category products are listed. How can I display all the products according to their Sub Category order, ie first display all the products in the first Sub Category along with its child sub categories and then display the next Sub Category products and its child sub category products if there is any, and like wise for all the Sub Categories ?
I have no idea whether this sorting is done by the module but any pointers are really appreciated.

As far as my experience goes - the sorting is not done by the module, but by the Sort Order numbers that you give your products.
You simply need to set up the products' Sort Orders with this module in mind - so, for example, the products in SubCat1 would have sort orders 0-900, SubSubCat1 would have 1000-1900, then SubCat2 could have 2000-2900... etc. So when the parent category is viewed, the products' Sort Orders will match the ordering of the categories.

I am really confused. In my test server the module displays all the products from the subcategory and its child categories, but in my production server when somebody clicks the main category, only products from the subcategories are getting listed. My test server is a fresh zencart install, so I think, in the production server, some settings in the admin panel is preventing the Subsub category products from displaying.
Any thoughts ?

I think I found the reason behind the strange behaviour of the Mod on my production server. My production server is still using MYSQL 4.1.21 and I think the mod is not compatible with it. I got one more reason to fight with my client. :wacko:

My production server runs on 4.1.20 and the mod works...

Could you analyze/optimize/repair the products and categories tables and see if this helps? (after a proper backup, of course)

I think yellow1912's code constructs the product lists for category trees based on sessions - so perhaps you could also try optimizing/repairing and then clearing the sessions, db_cache and whos_online tables (if nobody's currently shopping on your website), and also your cache folder for good measure... backup applies here too.

Finally I'd check if there's any error in the category structure - for instance, a category that contains both products and subcategories (technically not allowed in Zencart, but may sometimes happen with certain add-ons, e.g. Easy Populate, and could possibly cause unpredictable behavior such as this).

Maybe you could post/pm your site address so I could take a look at it - can't promise much though...

To verify the MYSQL version issue , I tested the code in wamp with mysql 4.1.21 and it didint work. Yes it was displaying products but not from the subcatagories child catagories and so I thought that this is a MYSQL version problem. But after reading that you are using 4.1.20 I am puzzled . I'll try to do the things that you mentioned (I dont have a full acces to the server but I'll try to do it) and will let you know.

P.S. As per the web admin they dont have products and catagories together inside a single category.

Anyhow I'm not sure whether your solutions can be applied in yellow's contrib, I tried to look your code but I do not know how to apply in simple category tree mod.

I just installed this mod from the post above (all_subcats_products.zip) and I'm not seeing any difference in my site. Is there more config I have to do in Admin?

I really need to simply show all products in a category on the category page. I don't need to sort them or have them separated by sub cat. Right now, all one gets is the links to the many sub cats that we have and customers just want to see all products in a category at once.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wondering if this "All products in a category, show in one page, order by sub-categories" can be done in the admin? I'm told that many things can be done in the admin without custom coding.

Here is what I am trying to accomplish.

I have 4 top categories on my site. ie: Men's, Women's, Boys, Girls. Within each of these categories, I have sub-categories. Shirts, Pants, Shoes, etc. When someone is on my main page and then clicks the Womens top category, for instance, I would like for ZC to display all items within all of the Womens sub-categories until they click on one of the sub-categories.

So, can this be accomplished somewhere in the admin? You don't have to tell me how to do it, just let me know if is possible and I will try to figure it out.

No, it can't be done in admin. It will require custom PHP & MySQL coding to create a page with different content than the existing pages.

@bruhnf: This is exactly what the module all sub cats products listing is for :). And no, it is impossible via the current admin.

That done pretty much exactly what I wanted, except my filter by manufacturer has disappeared from the listings page, anyone got any ideas?

This mod sounds great - but I am not able to get it working. The install instructions were easy enough but when I click on my main category I still do not see any products listed.

I am using zen cart 1.3.8a. Could it be that this mod is not compatible? Or does this mod rely on some configuration from the Admin console?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for this. I added this to to the mod and it did the trick.. kind of. From what I can tell the products that I want to display in the parent categories page (with the subs above), all have to be linked to the parent category. IE:
If I have "shoes" as the parent cat for instance, and "womens" and "mens" as subcats.. then all of the products in those two subcats have to be linked to the shoes category. If I have it this way, than it works for my store, but will not work if the products simply reside in the subcats without being linked... Only problem is that if I do this with the products linked, I have both subcategories AND products in the parent category, which is a zen-cart no-no.. or is it ok?

I've managed to modify the add-on to do this on my store.

See the attached zip for the patches and instructions to make this work. Please note that this is a very "hackish" mod by me - I have not tried this on a fresh install, and cannot guarantee that it will work for you. So be sure to make backups of all relevant files!

This modification requires code changes as well as replacing a file, so be sure to follow the instructions in readme.txt.

If you have to link products directly to the parent cat to make the mod work, you are doing something wrong. I don't know the code involved, so can't advise on what the problem might be.

I went through the code and instructions for both mods. Looks like I had some code missing in the default_filter.php file. Fixed it :) However, not sure why, but where the "Filter Results By:" should be it says "TEXT_NONE" .. not sure if I'm missing a define or something..? Please see screen shot attached. Has firebug shown for the element in question.. any ideas? . Also, quick note, it appears in some categories, but not others...
